I drive UBER LUX in Miami. I make 15 - 25 per hour, gas is 10% no inspection, no DOT, no regs and home every night. I thought UBER sucks until I watched this.

One thing your forgot is a DOT medical examination. I am a DOT Medical Examiner and I see drivers on a regular basis that fail to get the medical certificate and they get fined.

if I'm understanding this right then in order to tow a Bob cat I rent occasionally with my half ton dodge I need a cdl. because the weight between the trailer and the Bob cat I figured was around 12000. that's interesting to know.

In no case do you need a CDL A if your GCWR is below 26,001 lbs. There's tens of thousands of fifth wheel campers out here with 14,000 GVWR and higher and no CDL is needed to tow them. I own a 12,000 lb GVWR enclosed car hauler and I don't need a CDL to use it. If I'm not mistaken I just heard you say you need a CDL to tow any trailer over 10,000 lbs GVWR.
@PrideandJoyRupert7 жыл бұрын
In the United States, the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986 established minimum requirements that must be met when a state issues a CDL.[1] It specifies the following types of license: Class A CDL drivers. Drive vehicles weighing 26,001 pounds or greater, or any combination of vehicles weighing 26,001 pounds or greater when towing a trailer weighing more than 10,000 pounds. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commercial_driver%27s_license

Terry Waters yes , but if you are working for hire you will need it. Also need to be enrolled in a drug and alcohol program keep time and record of your hours of service and maintenance records for your vehicles. Its a whole different animal
@markbirchall20606 жыл бұрын
You are right, unless you drive for hire. Any actual job driving trucks requires a CDL.
@davidsalomon59756 жыл бұрын
Terry Waters well it don't make since i have many friends that car haul and they didn't need a class a they use a reg lic.....
@ronaldplank9086 жыл бұрын
you need to re-read the very definition you keep referring to and steering people wrong. You DO NOT need a cdl unless your GCWR is more than 26000 pounds. If you are towing a 14000 pound trailer with a f250 that has a GVWR of 10000, your total weight rating is 24000, No CDL is needed. DOT regulations also say that any vehicle combination over 10,000 pounds carrying for hire is considered commercial. In this case you would need a medical card and are suppose to comply with hours of service rules but still do not need a CDL. I really have a hard time understanding why so many people are so confused over something so simple

HI, Question im researching all that i would need to start my bussines of hot shot. my current sitiation i have to buy a truck and trailer. Now have made 2 combination of truck and trailer. (1) is a F-450 dually diesel with a GCWR of 40,400 and 31,200 of towing with a trailer that GVWR is 30,000 minus the trailer weight it leave me with arround 20,200 lbs of load capacity and is 30+5 length goose neck. would this set up fit this kind of bussines or is a over kill or is too mucho vs what i would get in return? (2) is F-350 dually diesel with a GCWR of 31,900 and 24,000 of towing but now with a trailer that GVWR 25,900 with a trailer weight of 8,150 lbs that leave me with a window of 15,750 lbs of cargo. My question is would 4,450lbs difference on weight capacity justified the f-450 or go with f-350.
@PrideandJoyRupert9 жыл бұрын
+JOCSAN O. SANTIAGO Hello, both would work great. the thing is you need to find out what kind of loads are available. I would say go for max weight. Sounds like you have some pretty cool options. I guess I would go with the 450 if I had the choice.

JOCSAN O. SANTIAGO IVe been hot shooting a long time. I use a Dodge 3500 with a 40’ gooseneck. Just because you can put a lot of weight on your trailer doesn’t mean you should. I would rarely put over 12,000 lbs just because it’s so hard on my equipment. You can get loads off the load boards that are the correct dimensions and still be under 12,000 lbs. I’ve gone up to 15 but you can just feel the weight working on your truck and trailer brakes.

How dose insurance works, would I have to put down a large amount or is it like a personal vehicle insurance?
@PrideandJoyRupert6 жыл бұрын
Generally commercial insurance will cost much more and you may need to place a deposit. It will depend on which insurance company you are getting insured with. Hope this helps.

Can I use a 3500 GVWR around 14k, and a gooseneck GVWR around 14k which = 28k or Do I need to Physically weigh over 26,001 lbs. a 3500 curb weight is around 10k and a trailer is around 10k which is below 26,001. any ideas to how I can acomplish this. I have been told by several people I can use that set up, and by others saying no?? It looks like to me from the study guide it is based off "rating"??

@ronaldplank9086 жыл бұрын
funny how everyone has an opinion and thinks they have they only answer...there are people doing hotshot with half ton trucks
@realmanontheland48115 жыл бұрын
The reason for a dually is for more stable ride. When your in a half tone truck with a load the tires will roll on the rims when turning or at hwy speeds, thus making your truck and load unstable and dangerous. The dually is more stable ride and safer, when you do have a blow out you can always make it to a truck stop and get it changed instead of being on the side of the highway.
@mitchwolf50385 жыл бұрын
Ryan Winfield If you’re hauling freight of much weight, you really need a dually to spread the towing weight of the gooseneck. I’ve been doing it for quite a while and the added security of the extra tires is nice to know y’a can usually get to a truck stop and get your flat fixed.
