What kind of setup do you offer for someone new to a Nighthawk MR1100 w/ ATT which will basically be used in RV only? Most places we go have some signal but I gather ATT is prepping for 5g so where I’ve had great signal for years it has dropped significantly in the past year. I also am currently using a Winegard Rayzar antenna on the rig and have the hardware from the older Sensar batwing type antenna. I’ve no idea if either TV antenna can double for cellular if modified. I’m ignorant of antenna technology but have noticed on cloudy days my ATT service goes from 1 or 2 bars to full 4g LTE. Is this due to the waves’ path being effected by cloud ceiling? I learned quite a bit from your vid here. Thanks!

Eric, for RV use it's best to use a 2 of our LP08 antennas. They are small but still quite directional. You would point these like I did in the video to a cell tower. Since you are getting signal from outside + with a stronger antenna, you will see your bars go up by at least 2 on average. As for the weather topic, I am not sure and will need to research more and get back to you.

@@ericstyer2890 Yes it makes a huge difference. Especially when it comes to speed. Look into something called the Fresnel Zone on Wiki. When you are far from the tower or in a heavily forested area - getting up helps a lot.

You can run Data Duplex with two antennas on the same frequency but opposite polarization, its amazing 60 db down when you change by 90 degrees. You can also have minature relays that swap polarization remotely, The primary problem is getting a broad band feed horn, which limits the effectivenes of the dish but the products here appear to work well and that's counts.

Where can I purchase one of your Cellular "Sure Call" signal meters and how much do they cost? Also, is there a less expensive meter/ tool / device or way to check the tower location and the signal for an average homeowner who's not gonna be using it for a business every day like you are? I live in rural Russell, Pa at the bottom of a hill and if I go up the hill approx 150yds, I can get a strong signal from both Verizon and AT&T but back down the hill at my house, we're forced to stand at only one window anytime we even hope to get one bar on our phones! I also wanted to know if I send you my exact street address, if you could pull us up using your map info to determine if there's any hope of us ever converting from Satellite to Cellular internet and how to determine our elevation opposed to the elevation difference at the top of the hill? Can you refer me to the best antennas for picking up Band 14 (FirstNet/AT&T)? Your yagi’s all appear to be wide band. Band offers the best connection I can get where I live. With band 14 being in the 700-800Mhz range would a very band specific yagi offer a better gain than a grid? I have the Nighthawk MR1100 (2L model that supports band 14) would adding a booster of some kind between the antenna and hotspot help or hurt?

I am new to this but where I am moving I need more options. So currently I would like to try a mofi setup. I am looking at Wirengs But I am not sure if they will cut it. As far as I know, there is no service or bars at the house I am about to move into. However, att say they cover out that way, but I know my realtor had no service on his Verizon. But the nearest tower I see is an att and its anywhere from 12 to 14 miles out. Is there a miracle antenna that can handle that with a mofi?. I just need to know what's up before I buy all these things and it may not even work. But I am willing to take the risk over satellite lol. Please help.

Where do I get the antenna analyzer and what’s price? Is their a site to find cell tower locations and what frequency they run at? How do I find the list of frequencies my service provider runs at? Like att edge, 3g, 4g/LTE and what maximum speed should be on that service? Say I keep switching between a 3g band and lte band. Is their a war to disable 3g or filter that off the antenna?

I just purchased one of these antenna from you. I have a modi4500 sim4 with AT&T 35$ unlimited SIM card. I have a weboost home 4G booster/repeater. Should I connect this antenna straight to my mofi, excluding the booster? Or should I include the booster? Also please describe the best wiring for your recommended setup. Lastly is there a reason your antennas are at a 45 degree angle? Is there a Benefit to this and if so then does the included bracket allow for a 45 degree setup? Thank you

I would connect these direct to the MoFi using L-400 cable. The cross polarization is -45 & + 45 for each antenna. Give us a call if you have any questions.

I've got a Nighthawk LAX20 trying to use it with Verizon out in the deep woods. Tower is about 2.2 miles away but uphill and through old growth forest. I see -73 to -85 but when I monitor the connection it resets every 5-20 secs which creates all sorts of havoc with video calls and Airplay (Nighthawk kills the Airplay connection when it losing cell connection). Would the grid antenna stop the drops? Thanks!

Bet you get better DBm with the cross polarized antenna higher up because the ground and bushes are killing your signal (this antenna requires Line Of Sight)... 10 to 15 feet would be good, 25 and higher would be great.

What is best combination for external antennas for rural connection w 4 x 4 MIMO w Mifi 5055 modem router. I doubt a 4 x4 panel antenna would work? Would 1-4 long range work or 2 long range and 2 Yagi antennas work. There is a 4 x 4 Yagi unit available. What would you recd and most likely need a SureCell signal finder to find the signal/tower. I am 7 miles from 2 tower ATT but I already gave 40 foot pole w one Yagi using Wilson Pro. I have my tower in open area.

I'm looking to replace my ISP with cellular service. 700 mhz obviously picks up better inside, but is slower. Outside is faster, but picks up 1700/2100. Does that mean I should target 1700/2100 with a directional antenna? How high should I mount the antenna? The crest of my house is about 52 feet in the air. Should I go as high as possible, by mounting a pole against the side of the house, like you would have done with an old TV antenna?

My current yagi antenna is rated for 3-5 miles. Signal booster isn't too bad. However, the cell towers I'm connected to are 7-10 miles away. Can an antenna reach that? Am I able to get fixed wireless with that distance and poor cell service outside of the signal booster? Thanks.

My new mobile livestream business depends on strong 4G LTE signal. I had previously planned on getting the 8dbi yagis in MIMO but after this I think I'll go big. I'll be livestreaming from the southern border from my pickup which means I'll have to devise some kind of topper mounted mimo antenna system for these big dishes. They're pricey! I'm mostly concerned with upload speed so the 4g boosters won't help. Both antenna lines will be plugged into the Nighthawk and from there a cat 5 to the router then cat 5 to the PC. I wish they made an in line booster for my nighthawk M1 for MIMO. If you know of such an animal please let me know.

You are headed in the right direction - however like I mentioned before the cell boosters are not MIMO so there's no increase in bandwidth, just overall signal for voice calls to your cell phone. The boost you will see from cross polarization however is usually good enough.

I just bought a parabolic antenna, MOFI 4500 router and a celfi-gox booster.I am putting up a homemade 100 ft. antenna pole and only want to do it once. On the ground I’m getting around -125 dbi., 1 bar. My question is do I buy another parabolic antenna for Mimo setup and can I run the booster on just one of these antennas setup in mimo configuration or no booster or 2boosters???

How long can the TS-9 antenna cables be before you get signal fade? Does the nighthawk not have any signal meters at all which would allow for positioning the antennas connected to it? Seems like an oversight on the manufacturers part...

The cables should definitely remain as short as possible. I would say anything over 1-2 ft on that thin cable becomes problematic. I agree with you on the other point.

I would want an antenna up as high as possible, probably at least a 30ft cable since I have a metal home and would want the device on a pole outside. The Nighthawk has 2 antenna ports and is designed to use both ports (MIMO) for the best performance, as I understand. For the grid (or any) type antenna do you use 2 antennas or is there 2 leads on one antenna? I mainly interested in a AT&T cell tower connection.

One port is the "main" and the other is the "aux" - in testing we only saw the Aux help in small amounts. The best ROI is 1 on the main which I think is the left one.

Yes and no. Right now (Jan 2019) the FCC still has not officially said where the 5g bands will be. However they have hinted strongly at opening up spectrum around 3 and 6GHz as well as some on 600 MHz. In that case for these bands our big antenna will be ready. The current "5G" systems and not truly 5G. It's still the stone ages in regards to the true 5G.

Thanks man for your video. I just bought a HiBoost 4K plus pro with the LP8 outdoor antenna. I do believe I have it set up very well, but my issue is I have 3 weak macro towers and I am smack dab in the middle of all of them. Although I have the outdoor LP8 antenna pointed at the best signal tower, my phone switches between it and one of the other two. I believe this is happening partially because according to cellmapper it has a cell designated to cover where I live. If I walk on the ground with my phone about 3 to 4 houses down it changes to the other tower to my east. This east direction tower actually has the best inbound signal according to the signal supervisor app that you use with HiBoost, but my phone won't lock on to it. It is as if the outdoor antenna is really receiving all 3 towers equally signal wise and it won't draw in enough to lock on to the best signal tower. I am wondering if using a LP12 instead on my setup would do the system far better to pull in the tower I have the actual best signal on. The other one it switches to quite often has a bunch of trees between me and the tower, and there is a wad of trees it has to go thru right beside the antenna. The one to the east has very minimal tree blockage and does better. I am disappointed that it is doing this on the reception. I have been using network cell info for signal readings, but of course their tower locator is brain dead so I use cellmapper for tower locations. without the booster my signal here is never better than -110, and usually -115 to -120 and I do drop calls. With the HiBoost it does do better, about -100 to -85 and mostly in the mid to upper 90's. With or without the booster I do see considerable fluctuations up and down. Those numbers to me are not extremely impressive, but it should keep me from dropping calls. In the home I have the main unit facing due east and the other internal antenna due west for best coverage. No issues at all with any kind of feetback. My antenna is 25' up in the air and about 10' above the top of my metal roof. Right this very moment I have signal from the east direction tower basically in high 90's, and the other two are very close to the same. If that LP8 were truly directional I should do better on the one it's pointed at. The reflective directional antenna your using that is picky would not be an option in my mind as I do get some wiggle if you will from the 4-5' sections of mast at the height I have it on 24" stand offs. I would love your thoughts on this.

Ok I have a question. I stream my sons baseball games from a GoPro using my phones hotspot. Currently I run a 720p stream at 3.5 Mbps. The feedback from parents is good regarding the stream quality but resolution could be better. I was hoping I could use a set up that I already have built using a 12v automotive battery and a 1500w inverter to power some kind of system to boost my cellular signal to hopefully get to 12-15 Mbps so I can run a 1080p stream. Budget is a concern but I am very (rednecky)mechanically able, I was hoping to piece something together and use a homemade 12ft antenna pole to for a receiver. Any guidance would be helpful. You had good line of sight, I checked with scadacore's website. I want to know what if you don't have good line of sight. What Antenna is best for no line of sight 600-700Mhz. Regarding my situation, LOS is not blocked super bad, at 53ft you could draw a line to the tower's antenna but Fresnel clearance would add to that making it like 95ft. The next closest tower is blocked so bad you'd need to be 850ft above ground for LOS. Should I use a directional antenna still? what kind?? should there be an attempt to still raise it like 25ft?

this is so informative! OK here my Situation. I am trying to connect 6 radio fradio frequency hotspots(915mhz). They are about 2 km apart on average with the furthest being 4.5 km and 11km. im currently leaning towards getting a few 13dbi yagi, and point them towards the closest/ largest cluster to 'witness' receive the signal...?

Outside the van is definitely the way to go. Since you will be mobile you will want to use omni antennas - but when stationary the directionals are great for when you are far from the tower.

Because of 4G,the WiFi market is becoming smaller and smaller ,but I used it in wireless digital CCTV connection especially with solar panel . The market is much more bigger than only for WiFi service. I had finished a 10km stable connecting project for CCTV

I found the Cel-fi X built in "Antenna Position Test" to do even better than the Wilson or the True Call meter Even with the highly directional Bolton 26 dbI gain at the LTE band 2, 4, 5, 13 and 66. In fact it found a signal I was not even aware of and it ended up as the best of the lot in my rural area. You rotate the antenna, to as many as 8 differnt positons and the test holds all 8 for comparion. Find the best then rework the "position test" around the "winner " of the last 8 test. Maybe even again? ... around the best of the 2nd round of tests. A numerical figure is given for easy compraison no wavering dbi reading. Example...98.987, 98.567, 97.896 and 105.456, 103.765 (8 in total) Then take the best (105.456 in this examle) and do the same thing with 8 different psoitions areound it... a little to the left maybe a little to the right and so on. The test does not only look at db gain. The numerical reading is finalized after looking and analyzing the Signal Strength, Signal quality and Signal SNR (about a minute or so) and then comes up with a figure that is sooo soo much easier to align the antenna.. You may not see more bars but when you are getting hit with -53 and even -47 dbi, when it was >113 before you started and even doing video calls ..sometimes SNR is kind of washed under the bus for it's 100db gain. It blow the antennas off of the tower. (figurativley speaking)

I am on AT&T with one bar with the Nighthawk M1100 modem. The tower is roughly 5-6 miles from me and it is a band 2,12, and 17. I get 3-4 m down.And sometimes a little less. What would be a good setup for me? Would I have to use two of any of the antennas? Which band would I be getting of the 2,12, and 17? ANd what frequency would it be?

2 directional antennas are ideal, then cross poloarize them on the pole like I did in the video. The device will choose the best band and frequency to use. Sometimes towers will swap between bands depending on the bandwidth in the area. The antennas are wideband which cover the cellular spectrum 700mhz - 2200 mhz.

Yes but if you have one plugged into the "main' port it will be an improvement. But 2 is ideal.

Bit disappointed mate...found this vid looking forward but few technical things to clarify...firstly, cross polarisation and mimo actually is more for urban environment due to the large amount of multipath and fast fading effects, you were in rural, so slower fading more influential, hence space diversity better, the +- 45deg xpolar with the log periodics won't do too much there. That does of course depend on what type of antenna is at the base station, so you can't assume they were xpolar. Secondly, bars on phones etc are not simply based on signal anymore - that was way back in the 2G days. I assume you're recording rssi there... also, no comments on cable losses? Always gets ignored...but 10m of cheap cable can offset the gain of even one if them yagis

How many miles will the biggest antenna reach in miles? Heard roughly 30 miles on 10 to 12dbi antennas? The 26dbi is the one im asking about

No they need to point to the same tower. Pick the strongest signal and aim both at that one. This is because of the MIMO technology - it comes from one source.

Yes that is correct. You are asking for the 700Mhz band so pushing the feedhorn in closer is better for the lower band.
