@@greydinimagicman Sorry but it WAS Merry. THey called her out of bed at night in Los Angeles to do this cold and she suffered a miscarriage the next day. Its covered in the movie 30 Steps from Stardom. Ms. Marks claimed to be the creator of the introduction to The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter," but this claim has been questioned as several other vocalists have made similar statements and the original paper trail was destroyed.

Of course, Merry has to be given just recognition and loyalty as the original, Chanelle comes along and knocks it out of the park also. Under the same circumstance, none the less. Chanelle was so nervous the first time she was asked to sing in Milan, that she and Merry spoke. Merry said, "You can do it, you got the Gospel in you, girl." The rest is history.

With a world full of pitch transposer/Vocoder 'flippy-tippy-tango-changos' along come Jagger & Richards rollin' in with one helluva a sweet surprise. @vasilii6417 you are spot on! Chanelle replicates the haunting melodies! Chanelle displays deep yearning which exudes from every note she sings, resonating in her body language and facial expressions. A deep desire for connection emanates from her very being. While walking with Mick Jagger, they provide hope where physical affection has a chance to blossom to love triumphing abandonment, to secure lasting shelter in life's turbulent storm.

I didn't say anything about the current singer. She is very good. But what Merry Clayton did that day can never be repeated. Sorry if I offended you but I stand by what I said. Everyone has opinions. She's a very good singer. She came as close to anyone to the original singer. But no one else could ever get those high notes at the end of the vocal. No one in 55 years did what Merry Clayton did with her voice that day in the studio. I respect the woman who sang. She has a great voice. But again, that vocal will never be duplicated. That day in the studio with Merry singing with the Stones in the studio, lightning struck, everything went perfectly. It was and always will be a gem of a recording.

Sad to watch. Ron Woods gets a cramp in his hands playing and has to shake it off. Keith has to sit down to play. Not the dynamic crew they used to be. I hate that they are getting old. I hate that I'm getting old. They are only a decade older than me. This is not how I wanted to remember them.

Your response makes me sad. Rather than remarking that it’s incredibly wonderful that men their age are still out there doing what they love AND continuing to bring much joy with their music to people of all ages, you focus on a momentary hand cramp and Keith sitting down for a minute. How you’ll remember them, and how I’ll remember them are very different.

I am 56, I first heard the Stones in the 70's saw them in the 80's and 90's, I had to work, or I would have gone to see them at the Jazz Fest a month or so ago. That said they are doing quite well for people Joe Bidens age. Just goes to show some people way deteriorate faster than others.

Come on, you guys, nobody's mentioned Lisa Fischer? She was with the stone singing this song for 25 years. One of the finest, most powerful vocals Eva! Yes you're right Mary Clayton knocked it out of the park she was the original. Just listen to Lisa Fischer do this song.... talk about a storm threatening?? A powerful storm in that woman's vocals just Google it. She's also got an unsung reputation as one of the most powerful singers ever
