Hi Mon. I am enjoying your recent videos. I remember a few years back a couple of top designers suggested painting walls neutral colours and having plain neutral sofas too so you can change throw rugs, cushions, lamps etc with pops of colour sort of an easy way to create seasonal or new colour pallets without a big renovation. It is budget friendly advice. Take care of you and Mars ❤

Good luck with your website! You had very good advice about restricting checkerboard patterns to things that can easily be changed (rather than permanent fixtures). I would NEVER have a checkerboard pattern unless it was very small (such as one-inch tiles on a backsplash). I just don't like them. Sometimes I look at homes for sale in Ireland (I'm American, but I've been to Ireland), and so often I will see a real estate listing for a nice older home but, when I look at the pictures, I see a lot of large-tile checkerboard patterns on floors, in showers, and on kitchen backsplashes. Something about the pattern actually disturbs me like flashing lights to an epileptic. I don't know why. I'm glad the better aspects of the 70's are coming back. I consider that era to be closely tied to mid-century/mid-century modern and my childhood.

Yes, I had mixed feelings about checkerboard too. I found that I don't like it on floors, but for cushions and artwork it works for me ☺️

@@HomeByMon You and I have excellent taste, don't we? Seriously, though, too many busy patterns in too small an area cannot be good for one's mental health. But some checkerboard patterns are nice and even cheerful! Checkerboard patterns are sort of like alcohol: best used in moderation! I always love your videos! 😁

Loved hearing your website is almost ready Mon! Yay!!! I think the stripes and checkerboard would work in small accents for me. I'm not one to go for big patterns in anything. I DO love saturated colors, however. Deep blues, greens, rusts, etc. really look great. I'm not, however, a fan of stainless steel kitchens or cabinets and will watch others enjoy it! Happy to sit that one out. I LOVE the 70's vibe and midcentury modern decor. And thank you so much for sharing Mars again...sleepy boy who knows he is spoiled. Okay, the wood paneling is good if it is quality. Otherwise, just say no. I lived through the 70’s once, it was not my favorite. Granted I was a teenager. But I never liked the colors. I wish people would spend more time designing their homes around the things that they love. Not what the latest trend is. Love your channel, good luck with the website!

Well, I just came across your video and whilst my IntDes heart appreciates the video you've made, I'd still had appreciated it more had you taken a more neutral opinion throughout the video, and maybe included your personal opinion at the end as a bonus instead. Design is personal and individual; and the art of suggestion can sometimes be powerful and misleading, and each to their own. Nothing wrong with liking beiges or peachy colors. I say to everyone watching this video: do as your heart desires, no one else decides this but you.

You are 100% right!! I should have given my own opinion in the end, and I should have outlined that people should do as they please 🙌 there's definitely nothing wrong with beige, my whole house is beige in fact 😅 so yeah, you are right and I will try to be more considerate in the future. Also, my next video will be about my personal ideas of what you can do to improve your home in 2024, so stay tuned for that 🫶
