There are indeed a lot of stories that just willfully ignore the existence of various archetypes and common logic. I am reading one now where light magic doesn't do anything of note. No damage and I have no idea what the MC was even doing before the twist. Just solar flare turbo I guess, which I guess kept him alive until the cheats kicked in. Still its a shame that stuff as simple as someone being a regular ass wizard has become the go-to for these subpar "cheat"/OP characters. Like they don't even make sense from the perspective of the games they are often parodying. I can let is slide as long as they do it right. Chalk it up to worldbuilding even when they ruin that by introducing elements which completely negate the premise in the first chapter. Cardboard Armor and OP daggers/swords still bug me more.

I will say that Krai is... actually not out of place where he is. He's not the direct powerhouse his friends are, no, and he doesn't think of himself as a great leader. But the effort he puts into NOT working means he actually knows who can do the jobs he's asked to do _very well,_ and can assign people well. Of course, he'd prefer not to, and gets arm-twisted into various things, but he _also_ possesses Kagenou Cid's ridiculous connection to fate/destiny/luck, and his excuses often turn out to be right. But, most importantly, his very powerful friends _listen_ to his guidance, and he actually proves to be insightful when understanding their and others' motivations. And finally, his mastery of his magic items is not trivial. He sits in an Irresponsible Captain Tylor sort of realm of not quite being clear just how much is actually BS luck and just how much is him being genuinely almost as good as everyone (except him) thinks he is.

I have... very mixed feelings about the main 'love couple' of the series. Most notably, how the FMC was just 7 years old when she caught the attention of "Prince Duke" who is 5 years her senior. Over the next several episodes, he continues to be super fucking creepy pushing his "desires" onto a literal child. Like one episode REPEATEDLY stresses how the FMC is just a TEN YEAR OLD CHILD. Multiple times, over and over "SHE'S A CHILD." It ends when she passes out from exhaustion only for her "love interest" to take advantage of this CHILD's vulnerability to force a kiss on her. A "Medicine Kiss." Because she was "sick." And not at all just a horny 15 year old taking advantage of a 10 year old child. Totally legit and romantic! *sigh* The age gap is just bizarre considering that damn near every other character, other than parents, are of age with the male love interest. And then there is the FMC that is just ~5 years younger than the rest of the cast, but is attending school and being considered a romance rival of the much older girls against the much older boys. Which is weird even in the universe of the game... which was made with "bratty kid sister of one of your simps" as the main rival? Like the heroine is ~20 when the "game" starts, and the FMC takes the place of the villain that is 5 years younger and the little sister of one of the male love interests. So the heroine of the game is being bullied by, and must overcome, a literal child that is the little sister of someone you can date, whose in her first year of this academy, and the heroine is on the cusp of graduating. I know I'm rambling, but that age gap really is just BIZARRE. Why is a group of 15 year old boys competing over who gets to take the 10 year old girl on a date next as her brother freaks out and gets jealously protective? Why is she the "serious rival" of a grown woman 5 years older than her? And as Geoff points out... why is the fucking King showing up to draft his foreign policy from a seven year old? And I could keep going. It really is just bizarre how the series insisted on making her so much younger than everyone else.

So a couple points: Hajime's crystal eye isn't a demonic artifact. He brought the holy crystal that saved his life with him during his travels in the Abyss. The crystal eventually stopped producing the holy water, so Hajime's stash of cure-all vials is very limited. But he found the crystal could store huge amounts of mana and thus would be perfect for enchanting. So he chipped off a piece, shaped it and filled it with his mana (Hajime's mana color is red), and put it in his empty eye socket (that eye was melted by the blast of the final hydra head). As for Haruka, well, Haruka is a dip who doesn't remember anyone's name, even when they say it to his face directly. When he met the duke's daughter Merielle he called her Merimelle first, then settles on MeriMeri. And she's someone he's met recently. He's known his classmates for ages, especially the class rep, whom he's known since like kindergarten. Instead, he has nicknames for them: the nerds, the jocks, the bimbos/mean girls and the Queen Bee, Class Rep and Vice Reps A, B, and C, Fish Girl (the one who told him about the fish for breakfast and got a headbutt for her trouble), and Nudist Girl (one of the girls is an airhead who is constantly taking her clothes off for one reason or another). Light novel Haruka also invented his own magic in order to defeat hardened enemies like golems: vibration magic. He taught it to the girls. They level that particular magic up nightly, while listening to him getting thoroughly laid by his servant/servants. One of whom gets a kick out of giving the girls all the dirty details they ask for. Obviously, the anime is based off the manga not the novel, so don't expect to see Haruka getting his ashes hauled, even by implication.
@jaybeans981Ай бұрын
The best part of Loner Life in Another World is that the anime is based on the manga adaptation. The light novel is apparently even MORE trashy, with it being a nonstop monologue from the protagonist in which each sentence contains at least five references to obscure Japanese media. It’s even implied that he is mumbling the entire story’s narration in real time. And of course it’s the one with the NSFW scenes.

I mean, the point of a healer is to keep them in the back row, away from the action and allow them the time they need to keep their party alive. Kicking them out is a death sentence for a party.

@@Fixti0n “He wasn’t a healer at all, but a dps” Did someone call for a Zenyatta main?
@zogar8526Ай бұрын
It hasn't really explained why yet, though my guess is it has to do with whatever lives inside of him, but he can literally only use the basic heal spell. Nothing else. Yes he can layer it, but his party didn't know that was odd. He is the only healer they've ever had. So they though other healers would be able to do that with higher level healing magic, including group heals. Plus antidote. While you can just buy potions, they are super expensive. So they just thought another healer would be able to do what he did, but with stronger and more spells. While also helping fill the front line. Which is why they just went to get another one.
@romanov3937Ай бұрын
@@Fixti0n This would have made for a better plot than whatever plot this anime had. Someone with little to no talent to be a healer desperetly wants to be one, they have everything to be an amazing damage dealer but doesn't like fighting directly. His party gets mad at him for it, they have a bad argument and he leaves to try and learn how to be a better healer. When they meet again, the original party wants him to be their main DPS dealer for a boss raid. He shows off his new healer skills and is the one to finish off the boss with his DPS talent. The party congratulates him and want him back, but he has to be their new tank, not their healer. Seeing that they don't respect his hard work in trying to be a healer, he cuts ties with them permanently.

lmao an anime about an isekai’d noblewoman who’s a villainess because of her grasp on extremely simple sociological theory actually makes so much sense for one of these lists
@spacedoohickyАй бұрын

@frostfang1Ай бұрын
@@dizzyheadsI think the uncanny is the point. With the way the economy or undermining the heroine is barely happening and everyone is either on her side of the villianesses, I'm gonna guess there's some BS about the heroine being another isekeid person or how she's opened a new path where the heroine is actually the villianess and now she has to decide whether she wants to be more evil or continue her path of helping her kingdom. Even with the bs economy fluff, it could have been decent if she actually embraced the tropes and the psychology of being a foil to the heroine which actually made the heroine grow and be challenged. But none of that happens and she just studies behind closed doors and chops wood. Very cinematic and interesting.

Thief girl has speed/agility/dexterity, alchemist girl has intelligence, sword guy has strength/attack, armor guy has endurance/defense, the mage has magic/willpower, and the protag? His maxed stat is Luck. A further part of the theory is that it's the luck stat that governs artifact affinity, hence why he seems to be so good with those. Would explain pretty much everything. Not just how his random flailing always seems to work, but also why everyone around him thinks he's amazing; he's somehow lucking his way into always looking like a genius even when he very much isn't. And of course part of the joke is that from his perspective, he doesn't feel lucky at all lol.

The funniest decision yakuza fiance's manga ever made was having an extra chapter where the mangaka went out of their way to literally make it explicitly clear in print that all the male characters are misogynists. Also from the manga for the talker anime, from memory, made it pretty clear that people considered protag-kun's class the "weakest" in a physical strength sense, as the job has very little ability to fight one-on-one, and not because this is a world that thinks support abilities are somehow worthless. Chapter 2 is pretty good at explaining this particular aspect (and showing how protag-kun's support abilities are recognized as valuable), though I don't know how well the anime explained it.

Yeah, the difference between affection and respect. The whole damn (guy side of the) cast went out for smokes the day everyone got their respect women juice, and they haven't been seen since.
@venandisicarius13 күн бұрын
The anime did *NOT* explain it well at all lol. Both me and my mom were watching Notorious Talker and were befuddled that anyone with any amount of sense would think the Talker class is weak. Like there was one point where he explicitly says he can make his allies like 25% stronger and he calls it a weak buff, but like... could you imagine being able to do 25% more of everything? We thought it was a weird choice for such a claim to be made but figured that the other classes must be so busted that such buffs are largely irrelevant. Then we kept watching and that moment hasn't really happened yet unless you count his fight with the swordsman guy.
@bigbigbig4213 күн бұрын
@@venandisicarius oh so that's two points the manga explains better. His buffs are strong there, but there are stronger but more specialized buffs. for example: alma has a 5x speed boost buff she can use and noel says the average for a c-rank is 3x.

Shocked that Geoff didn’t mention that in I’ll become a villainess the love interest (prince duke) first develops a crush on the MC when he sees her cut an apple falling out of a tree when she is 7 and he is 12-13 and also that the rival game protagonist MIGHT be unknowingly using mind control on all the love interests except for Duke and one of MC’s brothers
@duncanlutz3698Ай бұрын
And the only reason the mind control doesn't work on those two is specifically because of the FMC has had "Prince Duke's" attention for far longer (gross) and the other is her literal brother. To be fair a lot of these are much better in manga or light novel form. They just lost something in the translation to anime. Something they needed. Its like how even peoples beloved Berserk became silly.

I'll always drop a like for the excellent roasts and hilarious rating system but a Dolan reference in the year of our lord 2024 deserves a like on its own

His blocked eyepatch eye hides a enchanted ruby that functions as a enhanced eye that he uses for things like surveillance magic and whatnot.

@@yourdoom9898 My first instinct was to ask "Then what's the point of the eyepatch?", as though eyepatches were designed to blind eyes and not to protect pre-blinded ones.

@@timothymclean In-story, probably so that he doesn't attract attention or that no one freaks out over his demonically-enchanted eye or something, I imagine. One might of course question the point of that as well, what with the trenchcoat and the white hair and carrying around anachronistic weaponry and such. But I suspect this show probably requires much greater suspensions of disbelief than this.

@@Brasswatchman Oh yeah. That shit is absolute ass. Nothing makes much sense. And the characters all feel like they were written by a angry thirteen year old in his Sigma era. It's fucking great. Shit has me cackling every episode.

Gotta love the All Hail Shadow blazing in the background toward the end of the Arifureta section. All of Shadow's theme songs go so hard!
