This did not work out for me! I get grey and black dotted render, even with example file, if I swap geometry I still get black and grey pixel mess rather than my shape, I'm trying to render that curl noise example, no luck

When I control-click the Environment Light button, Houdini comes up with a warning in the Console: "Warning: The following settings are unrecognized by the light handle: focus_handle(0)". Also, is there some kind of keyboard shortcut to bring up with the window to select (presumably) an Environment Map?

You didn't show how to import the HDRI image. You created the light. And then the import box just magically appears on screen. You probably used a short cut but you didn't explain.

Just click the Light tab in the enviroment light and then click the icon beside the Eviroment Map to import the HDRi.
