Between Blender, Houdini, and Resolve, people can learn every aspect of CG and VFX for free and have a solid pipeline for creation that’s virtually unlimited in terms of function. Dipping into one for ease-of-use, and another for its function; it’s a really great set of tools to choose from. From there, one can step into paying for commercial licenses having learned everything for free and not waste time and money ever paying to try and fail at things. I’m so glad to have gotten into it at a time where powerful resources like this channel exist so I can leverage the software to its potential. Thank you for this series!

Well said. The tools that are available can make for a powerful pipeline for indie studios or single artists as long as they know where and how each tool is used. And, as you said, it's a great time to learn these things. Most of the tools available today are no longer behind massive pay walls or part of proprietary systems at large studios. Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

Do you think when wanting to get into VFX and 3D Maya is better than blender? I know its industry standard and there is a indie version which is affordable. I tried blender but did not like it so much, prbly because I did not stick too it long enough but idk. After finishing the Houdini isn't scary part I got motivated again and want to start my 3d/vfx carrer. I'd use Houdini, Resolve, Fusion / Nuke, and either blender or Maya. I thought of C4D as I also like to try some mograph maybe but C4D is just so expensive in comparison to mayas indie version...

@@JUMADO 😳There's an affordable indie version of Maya??? Good to know! Thanks! Always wanted to use Maya because of its intergration with game engines compared to blender, but got scared off by the 285$/month price.

One of the Best Houdini tutorials! I highly reccomend it. If you are committed and follow up to the next tutorial and tutorial after that you will be impressed. He really explains the Houdini workspace, defines nodes, describes different facets, teaches script, and the reasoning behind their use. He also every once in a while delves into harder concepts just to give you a sense of what will come later on. I also want to say that the production value is great! If you go through his lessons you will eventually understand methods and connect some of the dots when it comes to being a beginner. For example, I learned how to out put my Build into Solaris and export it in a day -and A LOT more. I was lucky to find this and for the tutorial to actually exist. Thank you!

Just fell here looking for some. understanding on Houdini; I`m a blender user and also learning C4D in the college course, but I`m in love with the VFX world so like you say why not try to understand at least the basics to start creating some cool stuff and build a good pipeline with those programs. Thanks for share and I will folow your other videos and see If I can learn something :D

Wow I'm new to the whole cgi vfx scene and this video just made me understand everything segment. Could you also do a video about your machine specs? I just realised a few days ago that I'd need a specific workstation computer in oder to be able to use houdini to the fullest thanks.
@NineBetween Жыл бұрын
Awesome, I'm glad you found this useful. To answer your question about PC specs, it depends on what you're going to be doing and what is important to you. I'll explain it in two segments: Simulation and Rendering. The larger you'd like to go with simulations, the more you're going to have to put into CPU power, RAM and storage. The faster you'd like your renders to be, the better your GPU should be (assuming you're using a GPU powered renderer). My workstation is as follows: 128GB RAM AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12 Core CPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU 1000 Watt PSU 4TB of HDD space 1TB SSD space However, I've worked on far less powerful machines with 32GB of RAM and Nvidia 1080TI cards (I can't recall the CPU specs). To a large extent, there are some workarounds for less powerful PCs. The only trade-off being that you'll have to wait longer for simulations/renders. I hope this helped a bit. There's plenty of information on the Houdini forums that might help you out further. All the best!
@foreverunited619 Жыл бұрын
@@NineBetween Ok thanks for the info. The specs you listed, how long did the 2nd clip on your personal projects, the one of the guy pulling a boat take to render? And whats your take on AI? Do you think vfx and cg has a future since every week now there's always some AI program that can do something that a trained person can do. I am video editor and a few days ago I saw a clip of some AI program cutting, copying and pasting video clips all from just being told what to do and it got me wondering that it wont be long before they perfect it and itll be able to do complex things and people will be able to edit videos for themselves and I'll be obsolete. So I am starting to think about if spending money and time studying vfx is worth it since AI is now moving at such crazy speeds.

How to export simulations to other 3d software like blender maya
@theflameboy5 ай бұрын
One of the burning questions I have is on VFX and continuity. Say you have a close-up, wide-shot and medium shot of a particular scene that requires VFX. How do you implement consistency in those different shots so that they appear as the same shot? For each shot do you adjust the effect or recreate it entirely even if its just for 5 seconds? If anyone has answers to how this is done in filmmaking please let me know.
@NineBetween5 ай бұрын
Hey, it's on a per shot basis, generally. If the fidelity of the vfx element holds up at both distances, the same one can be re-used. This may be especially true for things like terrains, but even simulations can be done at a high enough resolution for different viewing distances. There's a lot of tricks, such as reducing quality based on viewing distance in an LOD type approach. Basically, it depends, but re-usability is preferred to reduce overheads. I hope that helps😁
