Note: If you bake a flow map, this map needs to set "flip green channel" in unreal.
This video explains the basic workflow of bringing a cube as Houdini Digital Asset into Unreal and making use of Materials (both, already existing Unreal-Materials or create a new Material/Texture coming from Houdini). Also, we'll setup a Houdini-Bake-Node which we'll trigger from Unreal to update our bake results after we modified our digital asset in Unreal.

Thanks for the video!! 6:46 You can also middle-click the parm which will show the full path, copy from there and repaste, it will keep it absolute

10:01 You need to use *unreal_material_instance* if you want your textures from houdini to be used. You can use *unreal_material_paramater_NAMEOFPARAM* to set any value on the instance

Is there a way to do this but instead of referencing Materials, referencing Static Meshes or Blueprints inside unreal so I don't have to do it manually everytime? Thanks

I don't think the combination of a (Material Network - Principle Shader) AND an Unreal_Material attribute work together anymore. I can only get either the textures to import, or the unreal material to be assigned, never both.

Hello, Simon! Thank you for such a great video I'm working on creating an HDA tool for Unreal as a part of my uni project. The question is if I can use an attribute in Unreal Engine to drive some parameters in my material instance. Basically, I spawn a lot of decals, and for these decals, I have a list of Textures (around 50) and more importantly, the system should be flexible enough to get a fresh list of textures and quickly integrate it into the system. I don't really want to go one by one and create material instances for each texture every time. That's why I'm looking for a smart solution for it. Are any ideas on how I can figure it out?

I'M afraid I can't help much. I didn't touch HDAs for a while and as far as I know the Houdini Engine Unreal Bridge changed over time. So I'm not even sure if my video is still up 2 date...

Hey Just posting this here as i was struggling with this yesterday, this only works when you're baking assets inside Unreal. If you're trying to Import Geo from Houdini into UE4, it will not be able to auto assign materials unfortunately.

you can (for me unfortunately materials assigning to collision_geo, instead main_geo), but its works
