I like the idea of the Starks and Daynes echoing each other in their house words. In much the same way that they seem to mirror each other in their castle names (winterfell and starfall) and their house swords (dawn opposing ice). So something like: “Winter is coming” “Dawn will follow”… Would be cool

Great stream as always Robert , we all appreciate your hard work and dedication , you went on until your voice literally gave out with this one. And in particular I love these types of livestreams , taking an uber interesting , mysterious and much theorized element / concept of ASoIaF and doing a deep dive. House Dayne , such an ancient mysterious , interesting and what could be an integral element to the books endgame in the current narrative / its history. Of course the Daynes have had prominent and integral members in the current narrative and many more throughout Westerosi history whether the recent or distant past. Although with the members and the House itself the peak of their importance could have likely come and gone well before the events of ASoIaF as Robert pointed out , despite the presence of Darkstar , Edric (who is likely a victim in terms of his arc with the lack of the once planned 5 year jump) and Ashara who is likely still alive but I do not see her playing more than a peripheral role if any at all in the remaining books. One of the Dayne characters could surprise and take a bigger role in events but with the amount of prominent characters still around there is not much room for any Dayne to step up in terms of importance that much in the last two books. With the House words deliberately being hidden from us with the Daynes and concepts associated with them like "Dawn" , "Morning" both being "the light that ends the night" to me signals some type of major significance particularly in relation to the Others. The way that will manifest is likely via their ancient sword Dawn. To me if any sword is a candidate to be Lightbringer (if that concept is actually realized in the books) it is Dawn ; an ancient sword still in fine shape after thousands of years , extremely unique in terms of its properties and composition (likely forged from a meteorite) and admittedly GRRM has indicated it is a difference maker in combat and his favorite sword in the narrative. Dawn conceptually is the light that ends the night and of course could be associated with the original Battle for the Dawn , ntm the physical sword / its unique properties and composition , could have a part to play in defeating The Others (Dawn may have already done so in the first Long Night). As for the current Daynes themselves any of them may play a role in that conflict (although I have my doubts about that) against the Others , but their ancestral sword (Dawn) I am almost sure has a major part to play in some portion of the books' endgame , most likely with the Others.

In all the videos I always learn something and appreciate the level of thought you put into your videos for your viewers. I was interested to know why some of the color of eyes in the Dayne family is purple. It is a rare color and possibly could the link be the same magic used with the dragon lords. Possibly the white hair is connected to practicing magic on their own at one time.

Maesters can NOT create new Valyrian steel, or the Lannisters would have already replaced their missing sword. Existing Valyrian steel can be reforged, like the Lannisters did to Ice, and this would explain how the maesters can have Valyrian links. Those links are much smaller than a sword, and thus wouldn't require nearly as much Valyrian steel. There is no So Spake Martin where he says he invented Darkstar to do what Edric couldn't. Instead he said that when he threw out the five year gap, "If a twelve-year old has to conquer the world, then so be it". That's Edric's age.

I'm sure someone else may have come up with this theory, but when you were talking about House Words, I was thinking about House Starks words, "The North Remembers." I know there are theories the Starks are connected in some way to the Others from the Land of always Winter. I think George RR Martin has pulled "All she saw was Snow" moment here. I think when we think of the North Remembers, it is said as a memoriam. A saying to remember those who've died. However, if it is said as someone who was betrayed... The North Remembers takes on a whole new meaning. They may supposed to remember the pact that was broken or the betrayal of man who broke the pact. Then the words, Winter is coming, is not a warning, it is threat. Winter is coming for vengeance upon man for breaking the pact with the Others.

The whole purple eyes thing though. George saying this is just one of those things. It’s never just one of those things even in reality. It’s genetics. If my kid has blue eyes. Someone in my ancestry passed on those genetics. And those genetics originated from somewhere. Now what I think is that the Daynes may not be Valyrian. But Valyrians May have originally been first men. Thus leaving Westeros and traveling to Essos. Some stayed in Westeros, and are therefore not Valyrian decent. There should be history there we don’t know for it to make since. Also, I think it has to do with their house words he has yet to reveal. We shall see.

we need a breakdown of house tarth and/or house dayne + house tarth. There seems to be some parallels: Starfall/Evenfall, Sword of the morning/Evenstar, Day(ne)/Tarth (as in tar and tartarus), both houses are pretty ancient, their words were not revealed yet, does house Tarth have an ancient sword (is it the Fair Maiden)? The sigil for house Tarth is pretty interesting as well. And I believe the tail of Galladon of Morne (the perfect knight as Sir Arthur seems to have been) may be a clue to what kind of 'magic sword' Dawn is, the kind which is invincible. This would explain why you need to earn the title of Sword of the Morning, you need to prove that you have the wisdom to know when it's fair to use it/how to use it fairly (a true knight, not only a great fighter). And something that keeps popping up in my head is Nimble Dick asking Brienne (regarding this tail of Morne) 'If you had a magic sword, why wouldn't you use it?' and I keep wondering (if, of course, Dawn is that kind of sword - and we have more parallels to believe it is) if this is not one piece of the puzzle to Arthur's story (and lack of deeds like other knights of the kingsguard) and maybe to what happened at the tower of joy
@lalywindland57644 жыл бұрын
Maybe the truth about House Dayne is hidden in plain sight. Arthur Dayne was a legendary swordsman and Ashara Dayne was the most beautiful woman at court, beloved siblings. Now what does this remind me of? Right, it reminds me of Jaime and Cersei! Maybe Jaime had more in common with his role model than he had ever thought! If we hadn't been told about the twincest early on in the books, we would have still been wondering why Bran fell from the tower and many other things. I noticed some similarities between the 2 pairs of siblings and started thinking...What if Arthur was killed doing his duty at the Tower of Joy? Unlike Jaime, he had never questioned his duty and he was protecting Lyanna and especially her baby as Rheagar had ordered him to do. He could have believed Ned would dispose of a bastard that brought shame to the Stark name, he didn't know Ned well. What if Ashara really did throw herself off that tower into the sea, out of grief of losing her brother-lover? If Ashara had been pregnant and had a miscarriage or a stillbirth, of course she would have been devastated enough to attempt suicide by losing her brother-lover AND their only child. Why the Lord of Starfall was grateful enough to Ned to name his heir after him? Well, Ned returned their ancestral sword, protected the remaining Daynes from Robert's wrath, and maybe the Lord knew about his siblings' dark secret (like Tyrion knew about the twins without being told, just growing up with them) and maybe he despised them for their sin and was not very sorry about their death. Family relationships are often strange in Westeros!

Jane Seymour (Henry VIII's 3rd wife) died about 2 weeks after goving birth to their son. So it's possible that Lyanna got struck by childbed fever/hemorrhage/infection the same way. Even if she was covered in blood when Ned found her, it didn't have to be from child birth.

In the books it is said that Ned Stark went to Starfall to bring back House Dayne's sword. I wonder if that's not a lie? Many people wonder if Arthur Dayne is really dead. If so, how did Ned and Howland Reed beat him? And if not, I wonder if they might have made a deal with each other. Arthur Dayne thought it was very important to follow the code of honor as a knight. Stepping aside to let Ned through would lead to loss of face. At the same time, because of respect for each other's situation, neither side wanted to kill each other. Could it be that Howland Reed somehow convinced Arthur to lay down his weapons? To prevent him from losing face and being punished for ignoring orders, they faked Arthur's death. After that, they escorted Arthur back to Starfall, and Ned told everyone he brought the sword back so people wouldn't question why he traveled to Starfall. The cairn they have made for Arthur to bury will then of course be empty, but no one is going to open a grave to see if the knight is actually in it.
@naomibousson3 жыл бұрын
Now that I thought about it more: They didn't bring him to Starfall. Reed and Arthur agreed to hide Arthur in The Neck, because it is the best place to hide in Westeros. They went to Starfall to bring back the sword and maybe to let Arthur say goodbye to his family. Ashara said "Well, if he can fake his death and go to The Neck, so can I" and this is how two Daynes disappeared without a body and why House Dayne doesn't hate and even loves House Stark . :D

Kathy C , most streams when you rewatch them (after a certain amount of time has passed) , you have an option to pull up the live-chat just as it was during the original stream , there is a "LIVE CHAT" button (believe its called that) that will eventually come up either in the vid description or somewhere around the vid itself to do just that , which you have to enable and once doing so you will see the live comments just as they were during the livestream. If you remember approximately how long into the stream that comment you are looking for was and fast forward around that spot with the live-chat option enabled , you should be able to see her response to you during the stream that you are mentioning.

But if Jon wasn't born when Ned arrived to the tower of Joy, then why was Lyanna's bed still bloody? I think it is described as "smelling of blood and roses". The blood seems to imply a recent messy birth. If Jon had been born weeks (or even days) before Ned arrived, then surely the bed would have been cleaned by that time? If Lyanna truly died from fever and nothing else, then there shouldn't be blood there.

In a way, the Lannisters (gold) did bring the final Valeryens down. Jamie the Goldenboy killed the last Val King. And Tyrion brought got the last Val Queen killed. Perhaps "Gold" is too literal. Jamie's value is his sword. Tyrion and Tywin's most valuable traits were their minds and words. The Mad King and Dany made the same mistakes. They trusted the Lion, instead of an ancient prophecy. She didn't believe in prophecy. She only believed in herself. She is her fathers' daughter, all the way through.
