One thing that is missing from this history is the relationship between Aragorn and Éomer in the Fourth Age. Perhaps it was saved for a separate video, but it would be interesting to hear more of their battles which took place far in the east. It would also be interesting to hear more about the relationship and history of Éowyn and Faramir.

I have little to say about this video, IDG, you explained the rings fully and accurately. The only thing I would add is that the 3 rings also increased the powers that the wearers already had. It was not just her ring that allowed Galadriel to create and preserve the beauty and impregnability of Lothlorien. In her younger days, in Arda, she had learned much from the Maiar and Valar who tutored her. She had her own intrinsic power that the ring increased, while also adding to it the magic (or power) that Celebrimbor had captured and instilled in the 3 rings. In her garden, after she is cued by a question from Frodo, she says that the "rings" (plural) -- including the One and the 3 and the 7 and the 9 -- "give power according to the measure of each possessor." In other words, the power one has in wearing one of the rings is dependent in some essential way on the power one possessed prior to a ring coming to one. And then, after the One is destroyed and the power of the three is "cut off," in much the same way an electric current can be cut off (and one be left in the dark), Galadriel travels to Dol Guldur and throws down its walls. She did this with the power she possessed even before she put Nenya on her finger. In the short time remaining to them after the One is destroyed and they embark for Valinor, we do not see Elrond or Gandalf perform any great feats, but this does not mean they weren't capable of any even after the power of their rings had been undone. .

Ghost is all the proof anyone should need that Jon is a Stark of Winterfell. The old gods sent 6 direwolves to Ned Stark's children not 5. And they sent Jon the one most obviously marked for their purposes. Jon even looks more like a Stark than his "trueborn" siblings save for Arya. Jon may be half Targaryen, which may allow him to ride a dragon, or even make a claim for the iron throne, but he was raised a Stark of Winterfell. And like only the truest Starks of Winterfell he understands that his first duty is to prepare the realms of men for the dark winds of winter.

I used to think that every image Daenerys had of a safe house, of a home, molded into one image, that never really existed. There wasn't a single house with a red door and a lemon tree growing outside Dany's window, as she had to move from one place to another, to stay safe from Robert Baratheon's assassins, but there was a house that had a lemon tree in a private garden that she could sit and look out, and a different house had a red door, that if the assassins ever found her, she could run back to, shut behind her and be safe. Now I think she was probably kept in a private wing of the Sealord's Palace, and the red door was likely out of the way and only used by servants and secret guests, and when she was 'thrown out', she brushed her hand against it, saying goodbye, before her brother pulled her away.

I've been rereading the books lately and after the chapters with Faramir and Frodo I found myself wondering if there was anything more going on than is on the surface about why he was able to resist the allure of the Ring. I looked to see if you'd made a video about this and sure enough! This answered all my questions and much more.

Amazon timeline is all wrong. The 3 were forged by Celebrimbor AFTER the 1 Ring was made. Made in response to the threat of the One gaining dominion over the lesser rings and their bearers. We haven't got there yet. Elronds concerns over Sauron controlling the Three makes NO SENSE in this timeline. That particular threat has not materialised yet. The One Ring doesn't exist yet. This is CRUCIAL, it's not a minor oversight. Sauron is not even aware of the Three until he creates the One. They've wrote themselves into a corner and are hoping people don't notice. Please! Don't they understand Tolkien fans at all haha? Probably not because they certainly don't understand Tolkien. Many events from this show don’t ever reveal that they’re indeed separated by 500 to 1000 years a pop. It wasn’t happening all within the same 5 lol. - Remember, Amazon's 2nd age is not Tolkien. It’s a perverted vision of what should have been, if the show leaders & chief writers had stayed true to the original canon. but we both know, fellow Tolkien Lover, that this is an absolute violation of the vision & canon that the great Professor laid down. Amazon waited until Christopher Tolkien died early in the production of its DumpsterFire (before they went against what they promised), his "demand" was that Amazon could use the Appendices to make the show, but they couldn't change the lore. As soon as Christopher died, Amazon delayed the show for reshoots, fired Tom Shippey who was the lead Tolkien scholar & friend of Tolkien himself; they wanted Jackson on the team. PeterJackson asked for the scripts then they ghosted him. Then later when asked about it he basically told them good luck.. You can blame this garbage show on Simon Tolkien (who Amazon used to get around all the laws and protections set around the estate and JRR Tolkien’s legacy), its stink doesn't reach Christopher. Firstly: they merge events (from thousands of years of history & build up towards several events but puts them all into one moment as if it’s happening in the same few years without time jumps or anything.) Guyladriel the murderous one dimensional girlboss heroine version of Galadriel never met Miriel(one of Aragorn’s ancestors) because, as an elf, she would have been sacrificed to Morgoth by the King's Men. The hobbits and Gandalf never met in the 2nd Age because Gandalf was in Valinor till the 3rd Age. Miriel wasn’t even born yet. She was born 2000 years before the rings of power era. A precursor to other events to come in later ages. Also Elendil would never say “forget the past and toss it aside.” That’s the whole thing about the Faithful Númenoreans!!! I would be less cynical about the Valar; _pace_ Elrond, I think that they would accept (and destroy) the Ring if it could be taken to the Undying Lands. Even the weakest of the Valar is far stronger than Sauron at his prime, of course. The problem would be the westward path and the piece of the journey until they get to the Straight Path. That would probably be hard enough to discard as a viable plan.

As far as i understand, parts of ancient myths foreshadows parts of War of the Ring, as time goes by, the old histories, become legends and myths, but the pattern repeats, in a slightly less epic and more grounded way. different ages of imagination Silmarillion is mythic, lord of the rings more legendary, scouring of the shire chapter, and that would have been the New Shadow, a lot more grounded. But Tolkein is a genius, so clever in fact, he wrote the greatest works of fantasy despite just writing them story mainly to showcase his own made up languages, and avoiding direct analogies.

If you read the book you know it was crazy difficult, the jackson movies left out 2/3rds the details of the books.

it's weird that elves display resistance to the ring yet only one elf was chosen as part of the fellowship.( nine is such an arbitrary number imo.) they know the way better than anyone and they could have passed over caradhas to dimril dale without bothering with moria. they don't even need snow boots

I know that it sounds painfully self-evident, but if everything is explained and qualified, there remains no more mystery. It is mystery which we seek in reading fiction and mythology. When a song really captivates my imagination, I have now chosen to NOT seek out the words. As a musician, I also do not attempt any more to learn its chords and structure for the same reasons: "There comes in no wonder..."

I've always thought that when gandalf came he didn't fully come, he just sent a portion of his spirit. When he came back he brought more of himself.

The reveal that Gandalf had the third ring was such a disappointment for me. I had figured out Elrond had one, and of course we see Galadriel's, so I spent the rest of the story trying to figure out who had the third. I kept expecting to see some third amazing elf lord, possibly even cooler than Galadriel and Elrond. To have it turn out to be Gandalf felt like a cheat.

IMO it’s pretty silly to name a character “Lord of Balrogs” and then saying they were at most seven in number. Not much to be “Lord” over. Leader, aight. But “Lord of Balrogs” makes me think “shiieed gotta be at least 100 of them 👀”. Coolest creature in LOTR though. Even if description in book (afaik, haven’t read any of them) differ greatly from movie/concept. The movie’s design is superb though, one look at it and you realise it’s an immensely powerful foe. A being shrouded in fire, darkness and shadow is creepy but not great visually as an enemy in a movie.

Probably what he'll do is arrange it so that a Stark gets back into Winterfell but Mel gets no news of it at the wall - and then she sacrifices Shireen anyway, causing more conflict within Stannis, while news of a Stark in Winterfell rallies the hill tribes with the wildlings and remaining Northerners. I hope it's Jon that gets back there first.

Quinn the Gmmmm theorized rickon might already be in the picture; just without our knowledge yet. Because Davos went to get him very early in Dance and stopped having chapter. So maybe a stark will be back soon, but we shall see
