What he reported wasn't the truth though. Daemon and Rhaenyra weren't "coupling". It boggles my mind how people miss this, and then turn around and criticize Rhaenyra for "lying" about her and Daemon not having sex; even if you go with the whole "aChTcHuAllY Daemon DID touch her" route, the context of the accusation clearly involves *sexual* touching, which never happened.

For one the spy saw them entire and leave that's ALL he saw (so L spy tbh) so either Otto made up that last bit yo suit his narrative of the spy lied ,either way facts where not cross referenced and what Otto told Viserys suits his own agenda 2) all Rhaenyra and Daemon actually did was have an intense make out session that got to 3rd base that last 5min or less, was there intent for sex? Maybe (with Daemon we can never know all we know is that Daemon intended to put Rhaenyra honour and title in jeopardy) but intent is not the same as the action, Rhaenyras virtue as in her VIRGINITY was not sullied by Daemon. "A Dragon alone in the world is a terrible thing." We have remember just how lonely Rhaenyra is. Her mother dies, and her father takes her best friend away from her. (I know Rhaenyra and Alicent _could_ have remained close, but in any scenario it adds a lot of extra baggage to the relationship.) Also, it's really unpopular that she's named heir. So she doesn't really have a supporters or a "loyal following." And she knows that those that _do_ try to cozy up to her are insincere. At this point, her closest relationships are: (1) her former friend who was politically maneuvered into marrying Rhaenyra's dad and who then gave birth to her replacement (2) her unstable uncle who seems to care for her but also wants to replace her and/or use her to bring himself closer to the throne (? Maybe? Daemon's motives always seem a muddled mess of his ambitions and his longing for a place in his family. Even in this Epi, although he plays off what happened with Rhaenyra as a plan to "soil her reputation" to bring himself closer to the crown, a part of me wonders how much of it was instigated by their conversations about her concerns about marriage. Is there a small part of him who believes he at least understands her enough that she could be whoever she wants to be as his "wife.") (3) Her bodyguard of the last 4 or so years who she regularly confides in (and has always found attractive) Other than that, she's a loner who doesn't really fit in anywhere. And even Daemon points out to her how sad that is.
@jcompton85072 жыл бұрын
@Darkstar At no point did she seem as though she did not understand the people at the play. She wasn't confused, she just was trying to vocalize support for Rhaenyra and possibly encourage more to join in. (Sometimes it only takes that first loud opinion to be voiced for others to join in.) Practically every episode in the show is full of her observing and reacting to how unpopular she is. Everywhere she turns - at both court and now out in public, she sees plenty of evidence of it. IMO, more than anything watching the play she seemed a little hurt that the common folk also feel this way when they have no reason to like her any less than Aegon (Or really any of the royalty or nobles), other than she's a girl. So she tries to play it off with bravado, essentially saying that the common people are beneath her so why should she care. But she cared. It was in the same vein as saying you don't care what someone thinks after you hear they criticized you...even if you do care on some level. "...my lady doth protest too much" and all that. But, really, more than anything the purpose of this scene is just to set up future events....

regarding the daemon/rhaenyra brothel scene, i think he stops as well because he sees that she's enjoying it too. he wants power, and in those situations he always has it. but, with her, as soon as he realises that she wants it too and she can be as commanding as him (they are equal in title after all) - he's lost his hold leaving him frustrated. it's a game to him, one that he always wins and suddenly he's faced with someone who won't just let him win. that was the entire fun of taking her out of the red keep, she was supposed to be out of her depth and now he is witnessing her holding her own. still, i think he does genuinely want her, she is the one thing he asks for out of anything when speaking to viserys, but he also wants to irk his brother and maybe just slightly wants the throne in some capacity.

No, he knew Viserys would never allow him to marry Rhaenyra no matter what, so Daemon tried to force that outcome regardless of what Viserys wanted or thought by sullying her reputation through the rumour mill in Kingslanding. Because she is the King’s chosen heir. Only to change his mind out of feeling conflicted, partly because Rhaenyra was into it and reciprocating (by this I mean Targ incest gene activate) so he wasn’t in control, and because he felt guilty over Viserys. Perhaps Daemon was expecting Rhaenyra to be shocked and reject his advances, and for the sight of her in a brothel itself to be enough to affect her reputation. But when Rhaenyra responds with reciprocation and Daemon realises he could actually have her there, and she desires him also, he was unable to do it, got frustrated and bailed. Since at this point, he wants Rhaenyra for her position and was using her as a pawn for the throne as much as he also might desire and wants her directly.

@Riku-zv5dk2 жыл бұрын
Also, despite his ambition he was fully in the right to tell Viserys about Rhaenyra and Daemon, Otto did the right thing so Viserys could act before anyone else could find out about it. If he was putting his ambition first in that scene, he wouldn't have said anything to Viserys and let the rumors spread first. It would have required no extra effort from Otto and would have destroyed Rhaenyra's reputation, instead he told Viserys so they could preemptively do damage control on it, and it's clear he knew telling Viserys would enrage him so, as he was clearly hesitant. Otto is generally slimy and ambitious, but not in the situation.

Funny story about Kingsguard celibacy. Not too long prior to this series there was a knight called Ser Lucamore Strong on the Kingsguard under King Jahaerys (the Old King we see at the start of ep 1, Viserys' grandfather). After about twenty years on the Kingsguard, one of his brothers discovered that he'd been visiting brothels, had unlawfully married 3 women and fathered children on all of them. For breaking his oaths and then managing to throw his misdeeds in the Kings face during a plea for mercy, he was castrated and sent to the wall. His children declared bastards and forbidden to use the name Strong. He was known after that as Lucamore the Lusty and there are mocking songs about him in the main books. Also, Blackwood killed a Bracken not Baratheon. Both houses were once Kings in the Riverlands and are fierce rivals. Like permanent US-USSR cold war rivals except extended over thousands of years and actual conflicts.

Power dynamic wise, she is above Criston so this is a bit iffy- especially because he seems genuinely reluctant when she takes off his cloak and then looking towards the door. We can't say if he's really not into her and just nervous they will get caught but it doesn't feel like he can refuse her? We know Kingsguard can be put in some questionable situations - just looks at Aerys'Seven and the fun time Jaime Lannister had in the first 2 years of his service. Admittedly, their source of shame was the King himself, but one would assume they are to obey whoever they are guarding at any given point? I wonder if this will be the seed of his dislike of her later on?

Criston’s reluctance probably just comes from a place of shame. He’s the son of a nobody. He is the most successful person in the history of his family. He is honored and proud to be a member of the Kingsguard. He is very obviously attracted to Rhaenrya but he is also very reluctant to break the oaths of the Kingsguard and risk loosing the position he and his family have worked so hard for.
@thedarkknight22212 жыл бұрын
The director of the episode Clare Kilner said that she wanted sex scenes to be from the woman’s point of view where people were mutually enjoying themselves. It really shows in the scene with Rhaenyra and Criston. She isn’t pouncing on him like a lioness, she carefully literally and figuratively takes his armor off piece by piece. And when they have sex it’s passionate, beautiful and even loving. Also I was so happy this episode had some levity in the beginning with both Rhaenyra and Alicent becoming best friends again and Daemon and Viserys being brotherly again. But then Daemon had to give in to his inner douchebag and fuck everything up again. And while part of me feels Otto should be forgiven for having Rhaenyra be spied on at the same time he is doing it to force out Rhaenyra and have Aegon on the throne, so he had to go.
@ManSeekingMeaning2 жыл бұрын
I like the sentiment, but I have to disagree with your wording, implying that a woman who pounces on a man and isn’t “careful” or patient is somehow not a depiction of passionate or beautiful lovemaking or at the very least that they’re not “mutually enjoying themselves”. My wife and I’m sure almost every women out there would disagree with you vehemently. Lol. That may not be what you meant, but words are important. I also saw the behind the scenes of the episode as well, and I took it as the director just acknowledging what her approach was without necessarily saying it hasn’t been done the same way in the show before. Because it has. Ygritte/Jon and Brienne/Jamie were shot very respectfully. More importantly, I think you’re undermining what Clare Kilner actually brought to this episode specifically if you focus on Cristen/Rhaenyra, which was real nuance with the actors and restraint on set and behind the lense with the BROTHEL scene. There were multiple nude extras fornicating in and out of focus, betwix shadows, covered by other bodies, etc. The music was ambient and then passionate. There was a great focus on eyes instead of hands. It wasn’t filmed as gratuitous as we’ve previously come to expect from GoT in brothel scenes and that’s wonderful! And inversely, the scenes are purposefully left open to interpretation. So yeah, I’m your example they take their time and it’s kind of sweet and cute, but it’s still very much apparent that Rhaenyra is using Ser Cole for a heated fix; Ser Cole who has now sullied his honor and that of his family name if this were ever to get out. Not very loving in the grand scheme of things. Just an alternate opinion, though. Cheers.

I loved that you can definitely see that this episode was shot through the female gaze and wasn’t as the sex scenes we are used to watch. (More hand holding, softer movements, focusing on little details…) Also, loved the contrast between Rhaenyra’s scenes discovering her sexuality and Alicent’s totally opposite ones! As for Daemon, I think he orchestrated everything and wanted to take revenge on his brother and discredit Rhaenyra but the moment he actually sees her enjoying it and taking control, he is unable both physically and morally to continue and leaves! I do think he had something to do with Otto discovering what happened though, even if Otto doesn’t know it

*GRRM* *On* *Daemon* Every author has their own favorite character whom they enjoy writing about. Interestingly, Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has revealed that there is a Targaryen he enjoys writing about. However, it isn't the Mother of Dragons. Martin is currently promoting his new book Fire and Blood, which chronicles the lives of the previous Targaryen rulers. In a new video, the A Song of Ice and Fire writer was asked about his favorite Targaryen. Martin admitted that he is fond of "grey characters" and confessed that he enjoys writing about Daemon Targaryen. "He's a notorious bad boy, a rogue in every sense of the word. He was a rival for his own niece Rhaenyra and then later he became the husband of Rhaenyra. He switches sides several times, you never know what side he's gonna come down on. He's a very colorful and unpredictable character." _ *Matt* *Smith* *On* *Daemon* In the books, penned by fantasy author George RR Martin, Daemon is referred to as “dashing, daring, and dangerous” with a hot temper. During an interview with Considine for “The Official Game of Thrones Podcast: House of the Dragon”, Smith said he sought to “subvert” the idea that Daemon was simply a “bad guy, good warrior”. “I wanted to make it slightly more delicate, fragile. I think he’s quite a fragile creature,” Smith said. In the story, Considine’s Viserys chooses his daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) to succeed him, over Daemon - the rightful heir to the throne. Asked whether Daemon would suit the role of king, Smith replied: “I don’t know if I’ve projected this onto him but I’ve found for someone who, on the page, looks sort of disloyal and irreverent, [but] actually, there’s a real sense of value and loyalty about him and there’s a weird sort of sensitivity to him.” _ I'm actually in agreement with Jessica (AKA Sesskasays). I'm also fascinated by Daemon because I really don't know WTF he really wants? He wants more power but at the same time doesn't want to hurt Rhaenyra or Viserys. He loves them but he's also egotistical, prideful, and selfish enough to want more power. He wants to restore House Targaryen as a great name like when King Aegon ruled or the days of Old Valyria. Daemon is a complicated man. Hence, I was surprised when he backed off from having sex with Rhaenyra. This is his unpredictability that GRRM has spoken about. There's also a weakness to him when loving family or friends so much as seen with John Kreese caring about Johnny Lawrence and Terry Silver exposed it at the end of Cobra Kai's S4 finale. I think whatever wrong Daemon does the rest of this season, his credit limit 💳 is high considering all the bad*ssness he did in The Battle of the Stepstones. He's got plenty of leeway from me. He can F around in S1 if he wants.

Each episode of House of the Dragon just keeps getting better and better. There's literally no comparison between this and Rings of Power. Yet all of my friends still tend to because it's LOTR.
@corynydam23612 жыл бұрын
There’s no comparison because they’re entirely different shows trying to accomplish entirely different things. Rings of Power is trying to weld bits of the Appendices and and scraps of poetry into a cohesive whole covering what is, in canon, a period of nearly 5000 years. They also know that they have 50 hours of tv to work with, so they’re taking their time. Additionally, the Tolkien estate seems at best bitter, and often outright hostile towards any attempts to adapt LOTR. House of the Dragon is working from an actual completed novel with the living author there to give advice. It’s a different tone, with a much smaller and more focused scope; one that lends itself more readily to a faithful adaptation.

Show got me feelin bad for Otto :P love the acting, makes it better when I'm not familiar with too many of the actors too. Can't wait for next episode
