Yes, it's normal in the show, because if you watch the series or read the books you know that all the Targaryens were incestuous because they want to keep their blood pure because only Valyrian blood can ride dragons. I know it's weird because you don't see this kind of thing in other shows, but in this show it's important. For example, Aegon the Conqueror married both of his sisters, the king we saw at the beginning of the series (Jahaerys) also married his sister, and Viserys (the current king) married his cousin (the queen who died in the first episode). The only thing you need to know is that all Targaryens are incestuous because in Valyria was a custom.

@@Likeicare96 They are known for being good commentators and having good understanding over the material they are watching, it feels like, at the very least Hector actively doesn't want to be here, so he just doesn't try to watch it seriously. Its as if he's watching it in bad faith, ready to not like it. Then Augustin watches the series through a 21st century point of view. Like you can be uncomfortable no problem with the things that happen in the show, but just because it's happening doesn't mean George RR Martin or the writers condone what's happening, they are just presenting a story. And these three act like what happens in the show is being condoned or even favored by the writers, which is the furthest from the truth. But none of what I am saying matters because they filmed this a year ago.

As a fellow Valyrian House, the Targaryens often intermarried with the Velaryons (if no Targaryen sibling or cousin was available to marry in the current generation). So Viserys believes it is crucial that Rhaenyra, with her full Valyrian bloodline, gain the throne, marry another Valyrian, and have Valyrian children who will succeed her.

The Lady in White, the woman he _claimed_ was having his child and he was going to marry her, is the someone woman from the last episode, the one who said she "Always knew the skin trade would only take me so far." She is Daemon's mistress, his side piece in King's Landing because, as he said back in episode 1, he has never never never _NEVER_ liked his wife. That was a marriage made for political advantage, a marriage he never wanted but was forced into. Rhea Royce was the Lady of the Vale, the heiress to that seat. Daemon said in episode 1, "In the Vale, the men fuck sheep. You cannot fault them. Their sheep are prettier than their women." THIS is the woman he calls the Bronze Bitch. Clearly, he killed her to get her inheritance.

They didn't react to GOT. Adam and Augustine had seen a very limited amount of GOT episodes before starting HOTD. Hector went in completely blind, which is half the reason he's clueless about all the lore that is well known to previous viewers. The other half is that he's so busy mocking everything, he misses all the expository information in the actual episode that would tell him exactly what's happening. I don't expect GOT or HOTD to be everyone's cup of tea, but this level of contempt, with no apparent effort to comprehend, is honestly not very fun to watch. I hope he takes these comments to heart for future "out of the box" reactions.

I like watching reactions to things I enjoy and seeing others enjoy them. However, I appreciate authenticity and willingness to give things a try. So I appreciate you Hector. Incest was more common in Old Valyria along with blood magic and other things that really should be avoided. Some say the doom of Valyria was the gods punishing them for their sins. So i wouldn't say it's normal in the GOT universe, but definitely rampant amongst the Targaryans.

@@yesimarangel If you've watched Hector long enough, he's never been shy about the race thing though. It is a little bit weird that it has taken some people (not necessarily you, but others) this long to realize that this is what Hector routinely does. He obsesses over race in a lot of media, and anything that doesn't conform to a specific modern sociopolitical lens is something he will often deem to be racist. And it's bizarre too, because Corlys is actually held in pretty high regard in this show. Nobody ever denigrates skin color in this series despite the medieval setting. People like Hector need to understand that there is a big difference between a piece of media that is not the ultimate paragon of progressivism, and a piece of media that is actively racist. Those are two very different things.

Gather round children, and let me explain. Hector is an optimistic guy, and he has predjudged the show as being pessimistic, so he's not on board. He thinks the point of the show is to be dark, gritty, incestuous, gross and awful. He hasn't seen Game of Thrones. He doesn't realise that these shows are optimistic, the good guys do ultimately win, the message of the universe is a positive one. The way the show achieves these great moments of heroism, optimism, and morality is by having the characters live in a world that is mostly the opposite. It's the contrast that makes the optimism so powerful. The real world is unfortunately filled with brutality, just like this world. That's why real world heroism is more powerful than comic book heroism. In comics, the heroes are destined to win. In House of the Dragon / Game of Thrones / The Real World, you win with blood. Hector just needs to realise that if he can stomach the bad stuff, the good stuff is commensurately rewarding.
