I love the dragon keepers for this scene alone. And Rhaenyra’s gown is something else. If I was Rhaenyra knowing most of them would die, I would have asked each one to write a letter for their loved ones in case if they were to die; where and who to deliver the letter to. @@cautarepvp2079 In the show, there was no "small" dragon (everything is relative ofc). As there had been no young dragonrider who had hatched a dragon, yet survived while the dragon perished. (aka young / baby dragon) What was left what was in captivity, included largest free dragon (at the time) Vermithor , a monster (the canibal) and free roaming ones. Making a baby/young child face any of them would be insanity. Heck in the books Aemond is mocked/goaded into trying by not just the kids, but the adults. So to answer you, there was no dragon for him to easily bond with after his egg hatching failed.

Usually, Targaryens get the opportunity to claim a dragon around 15-16yo, so nobody ever brought him to dragonstone. The first time he got an opportunity it was on driftmark, when Vhagar was there for Laena's funeral. He seized the opportunity immediately, despite being 12yo. Rhaena on the other hand had plenty of opportunity to claim a big dragon, but didn't. In the books, she never does, she finally hatches a very small one called Mourning, too late to be of any use. Aemond is not the only kid claiming a huge dragon: princess Aerea claimed Balerion (yes, that Balerion, the largest dragon ever) at 12 or 13, sneaking past the dragon keepers at night, and Haelena did claim Dreamfyre (that was huge and very old, she's older than Vermithor and Silverwing!) at a very young age as well.

It sucks for husband, but he must lie back and think of Seven kingdoms (or rather Qarl Correy in his case). Honestly, whole dynasty was f$%#d once dragons (their key to power) started to be spread around. Marrying dragonriding Deamon to Vale? Laena should have been executed for crime of claiming Vhagar. You keep the source of power close to the chest, you don't spread it around. Only king, possibly his wife and heir should have dragons. Second, third son... absolutely not (see Maegor). Daughters - same case, in most cases it could be even worse if they didn't marry into family and instead married to other house.

You should not give your family’s single biggest weapon to outsiders - especially as that weapon made your family royal in the first place. The sane principle applies to princesses - no dragons for them as in the end we have Velaryons, another family with dragons that could oppose the ruling dynasty.

​@giagarex Yeah the main issue is Rhaenyra is a peacetime ruler. She hasn't the slightest idea how to behave in wartime and doesn't want to listen to her advisors, her husband, or even her son. That's why she's floundering and reaching for these ridiculous solutions easy way solutions that backfire in the long run. She could have sent Baela and Jace to the Vale of Arryn to escort there army through heart of the Riverlands to rendezvous with Daemon. Likewise she could have sent Rhaenys to the Vale or the North to do the same. She could have even rode herself through crackclaw point marshaling a army in crown lands to oppose Cole or some combination of all three. Last she could have just surprise attacked Kings Landing after the coronation with Daemon, Rhaenys, Baela, Jace, and Luc quickly overwhelming the Greens. But that isn't who she is and she doesn't want to dirty her hands at all and thinks she can diplomatic her way out this.

What I don't like about this show is that they don't do a good job of showing the pseudo-medieval spirit. In this scene, no one even bowed to RHAYNYRA, EVEN THOUGH THAT IS LITERALLY THE FIRST THING ALL THE BASTARDS SHOULD HAVE DONE. BECAUSE EVEN THE STUPIDEST PEASANT WAS TAUGHT FROM CHILDHOOD THAT YOU NEED TO BOW BEFORE ARISTOCRATS, let alone royalty. Remember the first season of Game of Thrones. The first thing Ned Stark did when he saw Robert Baratheon was kneel before him. Ned and Robert were best friends, had known each other since childhood, and yet Ned knelt before the king.

Greedy backstabbers like the Lannisters and Baratheons, are trying to plot along with the greens to take the realm for themselves. Otto had been manipulating him and feeding his paranoia for a long time, against his brother Daemon. If she wants other people to claim dragons she should make them sign a contract that they are sworn only to her. The contract should also state that they would be closely monitored for a while to check for treason and if they do not obey they might lose their heads. Would seem more realistic.
