What's heartbreaking about this for me is that Helaena thought she didn't deserve to grieve just because the smallfolk had it worse than her. She's hiding all the pain and I think it will break her sooner and it will explode in everyone's faces like they didn't see it coming.

That is how it went in the books. But to be fair, the book is an in universe historical text written many years after the fact with a political bias in mind. And with major portions left up to interpretation. Whereas HotD is the events from the perspective of those within them. And this Helena is already different from book Helena, being both autistic coded and a dragon dreamer.

I am guessing 2 things. maybecshe forgivew her for sleeping with Crispy Corpse and Helaena had no protector by her side or its forshadowing since she is a dreamer and knows something is going to happen and forgives her for that

It could also be forgiveness for making her do the precession in frount of the small folk or something more distant like making her marry Aegon although both of those decisions were not entirely alicent

Or maybe because in the end Alicent outlives all her children, alone, hating the colour green, talking to herself, hating what she had done, blaming herself, Heleana sees ahead and pay close attention at those paintings in her room, she saw what Aemond was going to do hence the begging question "was it worth the price?". I would also believe that the tapestry in the opening credit song is being made by her, she would've been a wonderful asset for the Blacks as they have people who would atleast try to pay attention to her(Jace, Rhaenyra, Daemon and even Mysaria)

They completely destroyed Helaena's character by making her strange, distant and autistic. She was a mother and beloved to the people. She went mad and insane with grief. Here, she's over Jaehaerys death. Her death caused the sack of the dragonpit and killed every dragon.

Nah, Alicent has been trying to admit her “sin” (Fresh widow sex with Cole, and therefor distracting him from doing his job of protecting her children’s family) to her father because she wants someone to say they forgive her and she will stop feeling terrible about it in the inside….. Helaena sensed that and not wanting her mom to use her as a distraction from her own self loathing by focusing on “helping” her with her grief over her son’s death despite Helaena saying she had already accepted it and moved past it, went ahead and told her mother what she wanted to hear……😅🤔👌🐲
