Thanks for pulling up the map. I think the plan with Rook's Rest is to cut off the Black's army by land. Dragonstone is like an island so their only path from Dragonstone without Rooks Rest/ the coast looks like through Driftmark and the Gullet which on the map it's all surrounded by water. Not sure what the plan would be for the Blacks if the Greens take Rooks Rest.

So hear me out, Jodes. When Rhaenys decided to attack Vhagar and strap herself in, she was proclaiming "I am going to end this now or die trying." If she defeats Aemond in single combat, the war is won. She had a battle-seasoned dragon, Aegon just went down, and it was a do or die situation. If she flees, the war continues. She also still needed to defend the keep and Rhaenyra's banner lord. I think there were a lot of factors that led to her decision to stay and fight. I think that she believed she could have won. That's how boss Rhaenys was. She tried to fell the largest living dragon. No guts, no glory. Because we were not in her head, we'll never know, but blood drunk on the back of a dragon, would you not have the balls to take on the world? You forget these are Targaryens. The ego and sheer cohones of this house is a magnificent thing to behold. We've seen it time and time again.

@bigredcrazyk Nail on the head, also realistically let's do an actual tally. Rhaenyra (Team Black) is losing REAL BAD, to be completely honest they are getting their asses whopped. They haven't really had a legitimate "win" yet. Rhaenyra got her throne usurped, lost her daughter, lost her son, lost multiple houses who have sided with the Greens and possibly more due to Daemon going behind her back & doing what he did etc. The Greens have also already taken more battleground victories so far, whilst Daemon is fighting his own demons at Harrenhal which is soon to be met with the green armies they have accumulated, possibly Aemond & Vhagar etc. So Rhaenys NEEDED to try to make this count for something so that all is not lost. If they continue to lose the way they have been, the battle is won before the war even started and Rhaenyra should just forfeit and bend the knee at this rate. She has the most seasoned dragon, is also the eldest rider & knows that if she doesn't try her best (at the potential expense of her life) than this is it for her, her grandkids, niece and honestly just HONOR in general. To think in Season 1 she gave Rhaenyra so much shit and yet ended up being her BIGGEST champion and the amount of respect she ended up having for Rhaenyra is what makes her sacrifice a sad but beautiful one. She gave her a reason to make that worth something, to believe that her niece and her cause was worth fighting for. Also in a battle sense, if she didn't try to take out Vhagar, what is stopping Aemond from going straight to Dragonstone (which is right next to rooks red) and finishing everyone up? Now with Aegon being nearly dead, the army's being in disarray and Vhagar being injured and not at full capacity, that's most likely to not happen now even though Rhaenys is dead. So yes, she may not have killed Vhagar but she finally was able to level the playing field a bit, and her death is about to put the battery in the backs of everyone on Team Black because they been wayyyyyyy too passive. Now it's like alright, yall need to be on daemon demon time now enough is enough. Also! Rhaenys I think feels guilt knowing she ultimately could of ended the war before it started when she was in the dragon pit and didn't, so i feel like this was her way of making that right in a way.

@@notsousual2938 They did not know she would be up against vhagar. The plan with vhagar for the most part was that he would be guarding kings landing. They only knew that criston cole was marching towards rooks rest. Nothing more. If they knew that vhagar was away from kings landing they would have probably sent rhaenys and some others to take it instead. Thats why the show displayed it as a secret plan. From the blacks perspective they never thought the greens would have used aemond on such a weakly defended keep instead of keeping him defending the throne. But the plan was never about rooks rest to begin with. They drew out the blacks strongest dragon other than caraxes and if it wasnt for aegon showing up the greens 4d chess plan would have been flawless.

FYI in the books, Rhaenys/Meleys was holding it DOWN 1 v 2 at the same damn time. She almost killed Sunfyre and was holding off Vhagar while they tried to jump her; she was the only dragon that was specifically mentioned to have a chance at 1 vs 1ing Vhagar in the right circumstance. The book also made it clear that she was a G and refused to escape because she was willing to risk her life to end the war right now and then at Rook's Rest, and she -almost- did. Just as she was -almost- queen; her life had a lot of -almost- moments and its super poetic and bittersweet. But she went out in fire and blood; long live the Queen That Should Have Been

I think it's a combination of two things. One is daemons words to her in the first episode. The second is after watching what aemond does to aegon, she realises he's not a warrior with the biggest dragon, he's a lunatic with the biggest dragon. If she tries to flee to the safety of dragonstone he's crazy enough to follow her back and attack. She felt she needed to stop him there or risk him coming after her and the people she loves.

They still have scorpions, that's still a risk. Rhaenyra should've let them take Rooks Rest and make the calculation that Vahgar would likely be there since Dragonstone is so close. She needed to think from the Greens perspective of what they think SHE would do (which is send a dragon). If there was an army on land via Daemon by this point he could've maybe handled Kings Landing and had another dragon on standby from Dragonstone (in case Vahgar was in Kings Landing). Team Black were not prepared at all. I know they're trying to flesh out Daemon's arc but so much time wasted in Harrenhal with those visions and still no army.

Rhaenys I guess tried to end the single greatest threat to Rhaenyra's campaign: Aemond and Vhagar. If she and Meleys could kill them, the true queen's campaign would be that much easier. That doesn't mean it was a good idea. Vhagar is the most battle seasoned dragon in the show and was at least twice the size of Meleys and could withstand more damage and deal more damage. Even though Rhaenys was the more experienced rider, Vhagar was the one that truly had the advantage. She died courageously...it just wasn't the right decision.

Guys you are missing the most obvious. She was there to defend the castle. Fighting the King and Vhagar was an added bonus. She didn't leave whens she could have because she needed to confirm if the ground threat to the castle was neutralized. If you notice, when she flies over the battlefield for the last time, she is looking at the ground. This is to confirm the castle is safe and the ground troops are no longer a threat. She was leaving after that but Vhagar came out of nowhere.

People are missing a big point by focusing on Alicent. The small Council including Otto were planning to put Aegon on the thrown regardless. Her stupid ass made it worse by not understanding what he was saying as he was dying. But the fact remains Aegon would have been king regardless. I like how he paralleled them to the Stark kids with Baela/Arya Rhaena/Sansa Aegon/Bran Viserys/Rickon and even Harwin’s son Jace with Jon but Daemon is so different from Ned 😂😂 Rhaena’s egg is supposed to be pink I hope they don’t change that and actually give her a pink one that’s the only dragon I was looking forward to. She named the pink one Morning to juxtapose Baela’s Moondancer and I thought it was so cute

Almost there. The page ripped from the book is absolutely significant. It's a page from a story about a Queen of had to flee her homeland, did what she had to do to save her people. She was a warrior Queen, and she married correctly and made the right allies. And she did save her people. It's Rhaenera and Arya's favorite story. That Queen was Dornish and hundreds of years later, Dorne is still ruled by a woman. When Alicent gave her that page it was a reminder of what Rhaenera said. "She didn't care if her father had a son and she's no longer his favorite." And it was saying "You should run and save yourself and your people. Start over, somewhere else."

Did Jody forget that Criston Cole is one of the few knights in this era who has actually been to war? They say this in episode 2 of season 1 when Rheanyra was choosing the new king's guard. It's the reason she chose him because he has actually seen combat. Also Cole has been mentoring Aemond, teaching him how to fight. We see this in episode 8 where we see grown Aemond for the first time, training with Cole and actually besting him. Then in episode 9, while Cole and Aemond were looking for Aegon o crown him King, Aemond vents to Colde saying that he studies philosophy, history,tactics and trains with the same, furthering saying that he should be king. Then in this very episode, you have Alicent telling Aegon where are Viserys' history books are and that he doesn't understand the knowledge an wisdom they hold, further letting you know that Aemond and Cole knows what they are doing.

The council is completely competent, they made alliances throught political startegy unlike rhaenyra who relied on peope to remember oaths and offered nothing in return. Cole is a great commander, aemond has proven quite effective in strategy and leadership. The greens have the best pr team because their perception is that they care about the people. Guys, they have a problem with how the show executed Rhaenys death bc so far how they portrayed rhaenys in the show is way different than how GRRM portrayed rhaenys in the books. Like as someone who also read the books, I can agree that It didn’t make sense for Rhaenys to go out the way she went out. In the books, she had no choice but in the show, she did so it’s more of the show direction issue so I believe they’re valid for feeling like that. I didn’t like how she went out either. I can respect it but I didn’t like it because I personally wanted more Rhaenys in the show and I feel like we didn’t get to spend more time with rhaenys. Aight ima tell you why Rheayns turned around and spun the block. 1) Black has only been taking lost after lost, from Coles campaign. They look as if they cant protect their allies. Especially if she runs away now. 2) As Aemond said. Them taking Rooks Rest cuts Dragonstone off from the rest of the crownlands, and isolates Rhaynara to Dragonstone and away from all supporters. 3) With Rooks Rest, the Greens can start seiging dragonstone, unless Corlys pulls the blockade around kings land to prevent that. 3) It was Rhaynara, her Heir Jace that committed to the plan. And Rheayns took up the task. So she was Honorbound to get the job done. Evey Dragonrider has to take a Vow to never run from a fight. No matter what. Because a dragon does not flee. 4) Even if she said fuck that honor, Vhagar would been able to attack Dragonstone, before the Blacks to gather, and monut their dragons in enough time respond to Vhagar before it burned down half of the castle. 5) Lord Stanton. The one getting pissed at everyone for not doing anything. He would of definitely switched sides hear not only has his lands and Castle been taken. But that Rheayns gave it up so easy. We Rheayns took that task up. It was only do or die. And the crazy part is. Though he is being an ass about this. Stanton has been 100% correct.
