Okay so, in the books Daemon’s mom (Alyssa) died in childbirth when he was 3 years old, so he most definitely does not remember what she looked like, which probably explains why his illusions of her looks nothing like she is described as in the book (golden-ish hair, crooked nose, one eye is violet and one eye is green). That or Alys, who also does not know what Alyssa looked like, made her illusions of her looking like some average Targaryen. Also, George explicitly says in the books that Daemon is not affected by Alys magic at all so this whole arc of Daemon losing his mind in Harrenhal is show canon only, i’m interested to see where it takes us.

Fire and Blood is a history book which merely has touchstones. Saying it is only a book canon makes no sense because it is not a novel. It does not have a lot of character motivations. They have to fill in the gaps for the show obviously because Daemon at this point in the book was merely active.
