About the gore: I think it´s so impactfull because it´s (so far) used sparingly. So when it does happen we remmeber it. Actually, same can be said for as lot of things in HOTD so far. Gore, nudity and even the dragons are all used carefully while also not shying away from it. Although the dragons will dragon a lot more the further into the season we get.

I'm literally here for the dragons, so I'm sure hoping they start to dragon a whole lot more as the season progresses. Like, I was hoping to see a lot more of just daily life with dragons, or something; not JUST when landing or taking off with them or doing borderline combat-ish things with them-but I guess we get away with it, so far, because they don't really seem to approve of Rhaenyra being with her dragon all that much...since she's a gal. It kinda feels like, she only gets to dragon when she's sneaking off to do so in a spare moment when no one's watching her.

Plus, GRRM's personal involvement with the House of the Dragon tv series - I do believe - has also been a lot more than it was with GoT. I might be wrong, but I kinda had the impression like GRRM was really only an occasional consultant for GoT, at most; but with House of the Dragon I think he's actually much more of a full-on producer or such. (But, also, a lot of the directors and producers in general are different for House of the Dragon than for Game of Thrones too. The House of the Dragon showrunner wasn't a GoT showrunner, but he actually did do some writing/directing/producing or whatever for GoT too. But the final seasons of GoT had pretty much completely different writers than the earlier seasons of GoT did too-it's rare for the same writers to stick with a tv series for more than just 3 seasons, or so, if not less. So who knows who the writers for future seasons of House of the Dragon will be, versus the writers of the first season, or not. Only time will really tell.)

I'm so glad you mentioned the costumes. I'm re-reading the books and really thinking about how over the top so much in the universe is, the castles are enormous, the armour gaudy as hell if you listen to the descriptions, full on enameled with winged helmets, lionshead pauldrons, Vardis Egen's rondels are "enameled cream-and-blue in the moon-and-falcon sigil" when he duels Bronn at the Eyrie etc. Rhaegar's war armor had the Targaryen sigil inlaid in rubies on the breast plate, so yeah that's pretty extra. I love episode 1 and 2 and Matt Smith is such a charismatic Daemon Targaryen, I really like that casting so far.

Everything is so up front and centerstage, many vibrant colors, and costumes are so extravagant, almost felt a little Wes Anderson esque at times, but make it bloody. I was actually pleasantly delighted with how the music tied in well with GoT by utilizing some of the same pieces but modified slightly. It was exactly how it should! The same, but actually not exactly. The subtle ways in which the music differed, despite their common threads, I thought were pretty much spot-on. But I guess that's just me. (And having the exactly same intro music also worked, for me. It would have been difficult to come up with something totally new that stands in-mind just as well yet also doesn't feel like it should be a totally different universe entirely or something.)

I feel the power of patriarchy in this world so viscerally through Alicent's character. She really has had barely any agency in what she actually does, and is often extremely uncomfortably with the things that she is manipulated into doing. The visual motif of her scratching away at the skin around her fingernails is so good at expressing the stress that this culture is putting her through for the benefit of the important men that surround her.

I thought there were two small(er) moments for Matt Smith that were great. His introspective moments in the pleasure house after the queen and Baelon’s arch before he was encouraged to speak. He said a lot without saying anything. I think the quiet moments between him and Rhaenyra on the bridge were similar. There was certainly a lot swirling around, but those felt really personal and somehow a clear look into his mind space. Also at the beginning when he gave her the necklace, there was a lot going on but it was right after he decided to overstep and sit on the iron throne. Good swings between bombasticism and intimate looks at his character IMHO. Or I’m not getting what you meant by small ☺️
@jaginaiaelectrizs63412 жыл бұрын
The choice that Matt made for Daemon's character, alongside Rhaenyra, during the funeral I thought was an awesome smaller moment too. I think I'D be much more worried about the other actors and actresses performances maybe not holding up as well in smaller moments than for Matt's performance. But maybe that's just me, and the fact that I've already seen him in several roles other than a certain Doctor before, so I wasn't even a little concerned that I wouldn't be able to see him as anything else.

It also shows the thrown taking pieces of him with the infection on his back and finger. If I could have a wall of manga, many of those would be on it. 20th Century Boy is a nostalgic masterpiece and might be under represented in the vote. Regardless if you do videos for it or not. It's one of my all time favorites. Vinland Saga, Monster, Vagabond are dark and enticing and play the line between history and historical fiction. Hunter X Hunter, One Punch Man, Bleach are incredible, but more page turner-y. If you're going for humor, manga I didn't see on your list are Ranma 1/2 and Angel Densetsu. Both masterpieces. Angel Densetsu is short. Ranma 1/2 is long. Depends on what you wanna jump to after trucking through the medieval fantasy and grim darkness that is Berserk. Thanks for the video!

Something as large and spiked as Daemon’s dragon wings, or even Hightower’s tall tower, I imagine would be a hinderance in actual war. The cricket hammered it home. I could be very wrong though. Pretty sure I am right though lol. Sound design has been so on point, so I’ll go with my explanation.

Comment number 2. I also just really wanna say I love the way you critique. The way you talk about it is really engaging yet you still make sense at all times. It's just really enjoyable.

I recently went to a Lord of the Rings concert here in Zlobenia (Slovenia) - it was fantastic music but there was a cricket or a grasshopper somewhere overhead making its sound and it drove me nuts the whole 2 hours. Misophonia :(

since i know from watching your videos and how you're already a reader of high quality tastes im gonna go on a limb here and recommend a manga, actually manhua, that is up there with the best of the medium. Imo it is the best in the medium. The Ravages Of Time, an adaptation of the three kingdoms period, combining the romance novel with real life events and also many of the author's own twist, it excels imo in every facet of story telling imaginable. The only true negative i'd say the series has is how intimidating it can be at first, since its style of writing is less explaining more figure it out for yourself. Personally i love this aspect of the story a lot, because of the endless re readability it offers. And also the story has so many layers to it that there is more than enough to enjoy on the surface to make u get through ur first read. But yea man, if u want a manga, manhua really, of true quality i highly highly highly recommend the ravages of time. also there's a discord for it that has a nice little community to help you get through any roadblocks. I hope u try this series out sometime truly.

Been loving the show so far, it's been great to return to Westeros and I'm excited to return to Middle Earth at the end of this week with the new Rings of Power series, 2022 is such a time to be alive

i was SO worried about only seeing the loveable goofy Doctor w/ Matt Smith, but wowowowow he does an incredible job @ playing an emotionally stunted asshat! I agree with everything here - it shocked me how I naturally quit nit-picking because my brain just became so absooorbed.

I too thought that cricket was way loud. My first thought was it must just be super close. Like on one of the characters or something.

Daniel, I don't know how much work it would be to do this, but if it is not to difficult it would be great if you can show a picture of the character/actor you are talking about. I don't really know the names yet so it was not always clear who you where talking about. Love the channel and look forward to more!

I've been very hesitant to watch it because of how GoT ended, but I might check it out now. Also, Matt Smith is one of the finest actors of his generation. His role as Doctor Who was iconic for all the right reasons, then he went onto the Crown and made Prince Philip his own (while his sucessor in season 3 just seemed to be doing an impersonation of the Prince), and his portrayal in Last Night in Soho was downright chilling. All three were vastly different characters, and he did so damn well with each of them.

The best way I can sum up this show is "AND THEN". Every instance in this show is "AND THEN this happened," or "AND THEN that happened." If I learned anything from Tray Parker and Matt Stone, if your story's plot points rely on "AND THEN" your screwed. It relies too much on the viewer reading the source material.... and making the birthing scene a attack on RvW. Because THAT will age well.

Daniel...... how in the hell do you expect me to choose only one of these manga? you should read ALL OF THEM! I will say that I am tempted to suggest one of the shorter ones, something like Uzumaki which is only a single omnibus volume. That way, I can hear you talk about more manga while helping you to expand your palette. Idk. You should do what you want in the end but I love how many options there are. I love how open to the genre you have become now. Makes me smile.

In regards to manga poll: I voted for 20th century boys, although I know that in the end the number one manga in the poll will probably be Chainsaw man. That being said, I would like to suggest few overlooked fantasy mangas, that are must read for anyone who is fan of fantasy genre: Witch Hat Atelier, Dai Dark, Made in Abyss & Drifting Dragons.

So far this has been everything I wanted and more, it has that early seasons game of thrones vibe with a much higher standard of visuals. I genuinely enjoy fire and blood more than a song of ice and fire and I'm so glad to see this.

I voted in the manga poll. I was divided between One Punch Man and Akira but I ended up voting for Akira. Not that many people have read the manga, which is much, MUCH better than the movie (and the movie is amazing) and I would love for you to shine a light on it.

The conflict is really good to the point of frustration because you can see Rhaenyra could become an great ruler if her father believed in her. But because she is a woman and this kind breaking tradition she is set aside. They made a good job of showing Viserys being a weak ruler and easily influenced. So much detail and foreshadowing this show is truly a good surprise and I hope it finishes strong for the eventual season 2

Hey, Daniel, voted for you to read One Punch Man. I've both watched the anime and read the manga. It's absolutely brilliant twist on action stories in general. Most of them deal with the main character getting stronger and overcoming struggles. But here, we start at the end where he's already the strongest there is. Inbetween easily beating every opponent he focuses on real life problems and situations that normal people deal with. He might be an invincible fighter, but he's not that good at other things in life and it's hilarious. One Punch Man humour is some of the best I've ever seen. Just a worthwile experience overall.

I know I'm late to the party, but I'm gonna write a comment anyway. Just to say that I'm really loving the show so far. I love the way they expanded on the 'storyline' in Fire & Blood so every decision made by the characters makes sense. I love it for all the reasons you listed. The acting performances pretty much blew me away. Milly Alcock is pretty much my discovery of the year, both Matt Damon and Paddy Concidine are both so believable in their respective roles. Steve Toussaint has just the right combination of thoughtfulness and intensity you'd expect from the Seasnake. The fact that my biggest criticism for the show is still that they hired black actors for the Velaryons (which yes, I think is both wrong lore-wise and ethically questionable), something that doesn't really impact the quality of the show, pretty much sums it all up.

My main issue with it, is that i have predicted all major story bests so far, well before they happened, its just too predictable, my hope is, thats because alot of the start is setup, and that the more unpredictable moments will come later.

Is anyone else looking for character comparisons between HotD and GoT? I got a new littlefinger and a suspicion of Shae and of course the obvious one: Dasnerys and Rhaenyra
@chrisredfield62742 жыл бұрын
It seems like Daemon cares for Rhaenyra. He just wants to be acknowledged by his brother. But he is constantly shunned and therefore he acts out. I don't think he would ever hurt his niece.
