I think Rhae is driven by her sense of duty and the desire to prove to everyone that she can rule and do it as well if not better than any man. That said, she is very very attracted to Daemon. And there’s part of her that wants him to sweep her away so she can get lost in her passion. As for Daemon, he wants what he wants when he wants it.

Daemon is fiercly independent and dominant and have a strong will, but I don´t think he translates that to a hunger for the throne. To be tied to the throne as king would rather feel restrictive for his need of freedom. Rhae on the other hand does want the throne but of a sense of duty rather than a thrist for power as such.

They each have something the other doesn't have. Rhaenyra had Viserys' unconditional love and Daemon has agency to do whatever he wants, most of the time. That's why I think Rhae keeps breaking the rules, she admires Daemon's recklessness

Raenyra has agency. She’s born in privilege. She has a dragon and replaces Daemon as the heir. Seems to me, she has more agency than Daemon. My main issue would be having to basically risk dying by childbirth. Seeing her mother having to go through that could breed resentment. It looks like they’re going to play it that way and that does make sense. So she marries Laenor who everyone knows is gay. She could have refused the marriage, but she wanted the throne. So she has a son with another man. She had her heir. Then why have two more children? She didn’t have to have sex, Laenor wouldn’t have forced her obviously. Of course this time period has a patriarchal system, but saying Rhaenyra doesn’t have agency is ridiculous. I welcome anyone who can explain this to me

She definitely has more agency than, say, a minor lord's daughter, but we see in Fire and Blood that her father threatens to take the throne from her if she doesn't obey his wishes. That's not really a choice for her. It's an illusion of choice. The very fact that he is able to threaten her ascension is because she's a woman and only has a claim to the throne because she was specifically named as heir, but that can be undone if she makes her father suitably unhappy. Daemon (and any men) can have affairs and father bastards, but for Rhaenyra to do so is considered treason.

I’m not saying the men didn’t have it easier, but I doubt Laenor was to thrilled about it. Daemon was forced to go back to his wife by Viserys. Also it’s less that she had the bastards, and more that she paraded them around as legitimate heirs. And even then she was allowed to do it by everyone in her life. Viserys literally had anyones tongues cut out that questioned their parentage. The only person that had more agency than her was maybe Daemon and her father. Pretending otherwise is delusional.

Going by the interviews for this show so far, they are desperately trying connect the current warped view of gender relations from parts of the left, to characters in a fantasy medieval setting, who as it turns out aren't even all that oppressed, at least compared to the average female peasant in that setting. Perhaps they believe it to be the case, but it also could be a misguided attempt to generate discussion and therefore publicity for the show. Personally, delusionally woke gender politics put me off ever watching this show. Will they delve into the realities of childbirth and ensuring a line of succession as a reason for why the rules are different for women in that setting? I doubt it, or if they do it will be played off very quickly. Elizabeth I was the most successful and longest ruling monarch of her time. It's no coincidence that she chose to not to marry or have children. The problem with the people who make tv and movies currently, is that most have a political bias and angle first, and then try to shoehorn it into the media they are creating. It's the equivalent of a terrible folk singer who makes God awful political protest songs that lack any artistry or subtlety whatsoever.

Unfortunately Matt and Milly had a much stronger chemistry, I never noticed any age difference or awkwardness , they were so beautiful together 🔥 but I see that Emma doesn’t attract Matt as a woman and it shows !!!! @@kazzlie4510 as far as I remember in the books Rhaenyra is supposed to be 23 years old when she marries Daemon, so Milly would've been closer in age to the actual character. For the argument of her having three kids and prolonged stress changing her appearance, the series doesn't portray that accurately either. By the time of her second marriage she was large of bosom, and never fully lost the weight she gained after her pregnancies. A few of the actors are too old/ too young, or look different then how they're described in the books ( such as laena and laenor) but they're such good actors that I'm neutral on how they look. As long as the directors don't completely change their personalities or plot or add filler, then it's ok.
