I don't think Aemond was trying to set Aegon up because when Aegon flew overhead into the battle you can hear Aemond say "Idiot" right before he tells Vaghar to wait. To me that doesn't look like he was expecting/hoping Aegon would show up.

Aemond is quick to adapt though, and once he saw Aegon he pivoted. Had he taken off as originally planned, they would have defeated Rhaenys easily, but he saw the chance to take out Aegon -- either Rhaenys beats him or he gets to take him out by "friendly fire."

Daemon is the only one that can take out Aemond so until he gets his head straight and stop hallucinating so that he can start fighting again, Aemond will keep on catching bodies.

Aegon being treated like a second class citizen in his own kingdom. Poor guy didn’t even want the job, they forced it on him, and then they ignore his ass.I mean if you were gonna treat me this way you could have left me hiding under that table where you found me. Then you try to prove yourself and you end up a new KFC menu special. So messed up. Alicent making fun of him “did you think wearing the crown imbues you with wisdom” - woman did you think wearing the crown would make him not totally useless all of a sudden? His failures as a son are hers as his mother. He is what she made him after all. Gotta respect Rhaneys for sticking to her job and trying to defend the castle and if possible , kill enemy dragons. I think if it was just her vs Aemond in open battle she could have won. Big as his dragon is, he’s slow and is at the size where sneak attacks are the preferred method of fighting because he’s just not very maneuverable. Two dragons down (like the statue and the water pot this episode) a few more to go.

Thank you for your perspective of Aegon. So many people do not understand his character and perceive him as a dummy when the reality is that he was never brought up to be an heir. Despite his faults he really is trying.

@@meganmendoza468instead of cracking open a book and learning about battle tactics, talking to the council about reinforcements by land (maybe sending Daeron in or out on dragon back w/supplies), like his mother suggested, Aegon decided to get sloshed and go to battle. Despite everyone insisting he stay home. He is an impulsive dummy. He earned that title. You can feel compassion for him but let’s not make excuses for him. Let’s not pretend he’s trying to be a good ruler bc he’s not. That ride to Rook’s Rest - actually everything he does - is tied to bolstering his ego. Optics. He wants to be liked, he wants glory & praise, not to do what’s in the kingdom’s best interest.

@@Taewills Why would he? I think the show has made it clear that at some point in time he realized he wasn't going to be loved by his mother and father and gave up trying to impress them. Then when he is King, something he never wanted and his kid is murdered bc of it, he rightly wants to do something. He wants to prove himself again and he tries to be a decent King. But all he gets in return is sidelined and people belittling him. Sure, he could have asked the council stuff and talked about reinforcements but it was made clear none of them gave single fuck about him or what he had to say or ask

This was a great episode with so much going on. Daemon is constantly hallucinating seeing those of the past that haunts him as he's trying to gather soldiers from Harrenhal. Alicent still processing with what happened with her reunion with Rhaenyra as well did Viserys choose Aegon as heir to the stone. Is asking the Maester for some tea in which she takes in which appears she's pregnant by the way she touch her stomach. In which I feel Larys Strong knows during their conversation. Aegon is not liking that he's not being respected. As Aemond and Cole makes decisions behind his back. You can see the tension between Aegon and Aemond as Aemond want to get back at Aegon for embarrassing him at the brothel. As well Alicent showing her disappointment in him with Aegon killing the Ratcatchers and removing his father as Hand. In which pushes Aegon to take part in the battlefield. Cole who took down Duskendale, Rosby and Darkyln. Forcing some men of Darkyln to side with the Greens as Cole killed Lord Darkyln. With his hand arriving at Dragonstone in which forces Rhaenys to go into the battle knowing that Rhaenyra is important to the throne as she's expandable. The battle with Dragons so well done. Damn Aemond really tried to take Aegon out along with Rhaenys lol. RIP to Rhaenys who died on the battlefield. I'm looking forward episode 5. But anyway I hope you have a wonderful day. Jace and his dragon would have been killed or worse. The dragons need to be trained first. They need to get Vermithor into the fight.

The best strategy would have been to pair a newbie with someone with experience, e.g. Jace and Rhaenys. Now the only experienced dragonrider for the Blacks is Daemon, who's off in the haunted castle doing a spirit quest. They are fast approaching the point where dragons will be forced to fight, experience or no.

What we just witness was Drago vs Creed . Daemond is fighting his demons and purging his sins . Next round will be Drago vs Rocky . Notice the difference in how the mother's handle their son , one teaches her son and the other show's disappointment. Rhaenys was a warrior to the end. RIP The Red Queen and The Queen That Should Have Been.

Aemond is under the assumption that he has control over Vhagar, when in reality he does not. Vhagar has a sneak attack move that she does when she gets into trouble at battle. These younger dragons are move agile, Rhaenys and Meleys had Vhagar and dropped her to the ground. Corlys is going to go off AF in the next episode. He didn't get closure. If I'm him, I would leave and go back to Driftmark, this war has cost him his entire family.

Much much better! Vhager's experience definitely came into play in that battle. U could actually see she's a veteran war dragon. Not dismissing Aemond's talent but Rhaenys is definitely the superior rider and if Aemond was on a different dragon that would be a different battle completely.
