I think Larys is undermining Aemond's rule. He's deliberately sabotaging him because he knows he's out of control. Larys wants a puppet king he can control.
@lindsay98384 ай бұрын
Was about to say this same thing but searched the comments first hoping someone beat me to it and glad I did! 100% agree, he needs the weaker, and more naive, of the two brothers to be in power so *he* can be in power. Not wanting Aemond to know about Seasmoke seemed like his obvious way of hoping something bad would happen if Aemond showed up during a battle thinking he had the upper hand and being surprised by more dragons than anticipated. Or doing something stupid in his fury like hauling ass to Dragonstone, only to be humbled by some big ass dragons who are younger and faster

Definitely. Aemond would not promote him, so Larys is "picking his prince," as Machiavelli says, holding onto his best chance for further power. It's also probably a calculation just to keep Aemond from killing the messenger, given that Aemond is transparently a psycho!
@kairosmvr19004 ай бұрын
I agree, which if that's true is such an interesting kind of power mongering and self importance. It's not enough for Larys to have climbed the political ladder and become Master of Whispers, one of the most powerful men in the world. He won't stop until he is Hand of the King, AND the sole puppetmaster of a king that he's wrapped around his finger.

The scene with Oscar and the riverlords was so cool that kid is goated. Also maybe a reach but i think the reason why daemon was so shocked after killing willem blackwood is because he sees himself in willem. All his life he's been his brother's vassal and gave him problems without thinking of the consequences for vyseris. But now he's in the position of the one in command and has to pass punishment to someone who is very loyal but also very problematic to him, like he was in the past. Daemon sees himself in willem and that´s why in the next scene sees Vyseris passing him the crown. You have the power you wanted, now you have to bear the responsability too
@javierramirez76394 ай бұрын
That is a beautiful take that totally flew over my head nice
@jwilson5444 ай бұрын
I think its a little of that, but more that Willem is both the type of person aemon prefers to have under his command (loyal, ruthless, and unquestioning) and that he is a little embodiment of his philosophy that fear is how you rule. His moment with the river lords is a confrontation to all of that. The river lords love the tully's, not fear them. And oscar is molded by that love, being a surrogate son to grover tully. He's just as disgusted by daemon as the rest of them. So when daemon thinks this is a moment of a power grab, with Oscar seizing his claim, he gets whiplash when it turns out that this is actually a family dispute of grand proportions. Their love is far more powerful and efficient than daemons fear. And to daemon, far more terrifying than his cruelty. Daemons discomfort with Willem is because he is both what SHOULD have worked and would rather have rewarded than kill. Loyalty begets loyalty, mafia style. But the realm is not the mafia, a collective gang. The realm is..... well, this scene.

About Larys: I don't think he's deliberately undermining the Greens. I do however think he's deliberately undermining Aemond, because he can't manipulate Aemond. Remember the conversation Dyana and Silvy have emphasizes that the supposed feast was held in honor of Aemond becoming the new Prince regent. Alysanne was famously gregarious, not a socializer in the sense of a hedonist or party-goer, but in the sense of someone who was a natural social navigator and seemed to genuinely enjoy social engagement. Rhaena even once made the direct parallel of Visenya to herself (more serious, grim, and pragmatic) and Rhaenys to Alysanne, the darling of the family. I can definitely see Alysanne appreciating a good laugh, and that lightheartedness & playfulness carrying over to Silverwing.

About the dragon sizes: It has been mentioned (I'm not sure whether in the books themselves or whether Martin said it in an interview) that dragon's need open space to grow properly. The dragons grew progressively slower (less) once the Targs commited them to dragon pits. That's why Syrax, for example, is so smol because she never hunts for herself and doesn't fly around much. And that's why Drogon is bigger than his brothers--he was the only one who got to fly free after certain point since Rhaegal and Viserion were closed indoors (in Mereen I think it was?) I'm surprised nobody remembers this little piece of trivia.

But they're saying even in relation to dany's 2 smaller dragons versus say syrax and seasmoke, there's a disparity in terms of size:age ratio In reality, which ppl understandably overlook in place of in-universe explanation because it is fantasy after all, the spectacle was what justified boosting dany's general dragon sizes so much. In the books, from what I recall they're much smaller. Obviously, we're also not as far along but not far enough to purely account for size diff. Ppl want big dragons. Hotd is trying a tad more in-universe-realistic take IMO so there's a slight discrepancy. It's fine, totally negligible to me, but still noticeable to us super fans.

Jacaerys being upset about "commoners" riding dragons is declaring defeat prematurely. Maintaining control is about setting narratives. It should be trivial to say that these riders are proof of Jacaerys right to rule. It is a statement that a targaryen is a targaryen and the dragons know their own. It's also silly how he states that dragons are his only proof of lineage. No one doubts his mother is targaryen. And if this political movement is meant to legitimize women as rulers than this too can be used towards their aims.

Hugh and Ulf also aren't just claiming _some_ Targaryan lineage. They claim direct parentage from a son and daughter of King Jaehaerys. If legitimatmized, they have legitimate claims to be in the line of succession. Hugh, in particular, should have been in inconsideraion during the Great Council of 101 as his mother was Princess Saera. This episode was spectacular, a huge step up in quality from the last couple which have just felt dragging and meandering. And while the ending with Vermithor was brilliantly shot, and is deservedly iconic, I think the standout scene was actually Oscar and the Riverlords. This kid was reading Dany’s “Oh I’m just a small girl who knows nothing of war” book to manipulate the conversation to make himself the most powerful and authoritative person in the room. So Daemon, for all his Targaryen bluster, is completely at the mercy of this child in his scale armour. A true masterclass in writing and acting from all involved. RIP Willem Blackwood, your sexual chemistry with Daemon was better than Mysaria and Rhaenyra. 💔 Jace and Rhaenyra was another standout scene I really enjoyed, because it does make complete sense that he’d be somewhat fine with his bastardry because he believes being a dragonrider is what will grant him the real legitimacy… something Rhaenyra is threatening to take away from him, another decision of hers that imperils his claim much like her decision to conceive Jace with Harwin in the first place. He feels powerless because he can see how this can all go horribly wrong, but they also don’t have another choice. Also, the Dragonkeepers were really neat. Their perspective on the dragons as being these divine beings above the petty concerns of men was really interesting and their fury at what they essentially consider sacrilegious blaspheming was really interesting. I wish we could have gotten more of them. And of course, the ending. Vermithor was appropriately terrifying and immense in his scale and power, you felt how imposing he was and what it would be like to even attempt to take this monster. Such a brilliantly executed scene. There was some silliness like Rhaenyra’s Massey handmaiden proudly wearing her house’s colours in the middle of the city, or the fact that Larys is apparently the most incompetent MOW ever given how he let this spread throughout the city without word reaching Aemond so he could burn the boats on their way to Dragonstone himself. And it doesn’t feel like it was intentional, it feels like they just let people get in and out of King’s Landing super easily once again. But overall, a fantastic penultimate episode and probably one of the top three episodes of the season. It’s a tough act for this finale to follow.

i mean the scene with larys and jasper outright say that they r not completely loyal to aemond and there r theories that larys is a warg and weakening the green faction from within (removing guards during b&c and letting cheese stay in red keep after explicitly saying all spies r dead + the gold cloaks etc) but ill accept it is pretty silly for so many dragonseeds to just escape a lockdowned kl

I agree, despite Vermithor and Silverwing’s scenes being just awesome, just pure fantasy awesomeness that I watched with a smile all the way through, the Riverlords scene was fantastic and imo the single best scene of season 2. Oscar Tully is a gangster but I can’t help but think Alys had something to do with how that whole scene played out, she’s the whole reason Oscar and all the riverlords were there after all.

@@thefirminatorMild Spoilers, but his eventual actions in the books don't exactly conflict with this.

@@thefirminatorIF Larys is a greenseer, and Alys Rivers is his bastard sister, it makes a lot of sense. Larys would be like a twisted mirror to Bran. First Men houses from the Age of Heroes, disabled but with a larger part to play.

DRAGON SIZE - in the show it was explained that dragons that were rised in captivity (i.e. the Dragon Pit) were becoming smaller and smaller each generation and eventually they were the size of a dog. Daenerys' dragons were kinda free roaming.

@lesiakadam1977 I feel like maybe it also has to do with how Daenerys' dragons were born. Her dragons were not hatched by normal means. They were born/hatched through a strange magical event/possible ritual. So maybe the magic involved with that event is what causes them to grow so large so quickly. Because even the dragons that were held under the great pyramid still grew large enough for Jon and the Night King to ride and be legitimate threats.
