Am I the only one who thought Alicent's plan was incredibly undercooked? "Come when Aemond is gone, the guards will stand down and that's it." Like HUH? What will you think my guy Aemond will do with his Airbus of a dragon? Stand down? This is not a game of musical chairs Alicent.
@lukeluke333lukeluke4 ай бұрын
Alicent whole scene was a bad plan and frustrating to watch. It was a poor scene in my opinion. Felt like a fanfic scene. Didn't help we also had the triarchy scene which didn't fit with the show and took my away from my suspense of disbelief. I've defended this season but this episode was really bad...
@killiansaratoga13024 ай бұрын
But if rhaenyra takes kings landing she’ll have his stronghold and all the defense capabilities. Along with 6 dragons patrolling the area. Aemond can’t pull up with one dragon (at the most two and ones small) and face all those scorpions and all of rhaenyras dragons. Aemond would be alone at harrenhall with all the armies yes, but couldn’t risk attacking kings landing at that point

Even the showrunners knew this episode was going to be kinda lackluster. Odd choice to edit Episode 7’s “Next week on HotD” with the last minutes of the Finale. Edit: 5:45 Glad you touched on the trailer, love when you two mention exactly what I was thinking.
@OystersClamsCockles4 ай бұрын
Yeah the trailer was a bit misleading and felt like an example of them prioritizing pulling in numbers for the finale over storytelling experience. It happens.
@jessjess23brooks894 ай бұрын
To defend Ryan a little bit, the showrunners wanted 10 episodes. I can guarantee you their original script would have capped this off perfectly. HBO cut them off at 8, something which us die-hard, book thumpers are giving them hell for. My guess is that HBO could not afford Ryan's vision and Ryan made sure to make the crazy people know this. It's safe to assume HBO is aware of their mistakes now lol.
I mildly enjoyed this finale. I like all of the chess pieces being moved but definitely wanted a bit more action. But I will never turn my back on this show. Going to miss my Targaryen family for two years 😢

I'm sorry yall. The finale didn't do it for me. I agree the finale should set you up for the next season, but I wish they would've given us more excitement. They should've ended with a death, a kidnapping, a battle, something! Even something like the scene where Criston gets knocked out during that battle where Aegon gets hurt... ending right as he gets knocked out would've been good. Like, something more action-packed!

Again, HotD fails to hold a candle to GoT s1-4 quality. GoT was very slow at times because it had so many story lines simmering at once. This show has way, way fewer storylines, yet manages to feel like a chore to watch most of the time. I genuinely enjoyed 1-2 episodes out of 8 we got. With the way they ended this season, they can't possibly wait 2 years to deliver season 3. The pressure is on them now to make this next season come out next year, and make it come out good.

Really feels like this episode wasn’t originally meant the be the finale, but then the season was cut from 10 to 8. It was fine and I have no major gripes but I can’t shake the feeling that this was the eighth episode of a ten episode series Episode 9 - battle in the riverlands, Aemond and Daemon die at each others hands, Rhaenyra takes KL Episode 10 - classic GOT finale that ties up a couple storylines and leaves plenty hanging off the cliff for season 3. Thinking about this episode in that context makes it feel like it fits better, for me at least. Maybe that makes no sense to anyone else, idk

The Sith lineage is very tight as there can only be two at a time, so including Plagueis in a show about Sith was to be expected, not some stretch to connect the series to the main story.

Also my take on Heleana's vision was that Aegon's wooden throne would be a wheelchair. Finally, I think the being on the tree was supposed to be a nod to the Green Men, rumored tenders of the weirwood trees and protectors of the Children of the Forest. I don't think it was relevant to the show rather than just a little easter egg to the lore in the Game of Thrones books. Re: Ross bringing up Alys telling Daemon he would die there That's a scene I've thought back on a lot this season and I now think she was speaking metaphorically. I think the psychological torture he went through and the final vision he had in the last episode ultimately was the death of his old self and old ways. I think he is effectively a new person now after having seen the future and accepting he is just a piece on the board with a role to play and that the magic/supernatural things in this world are real and not to be taken lightly.

The next Sheepstealer scene: Rhaena Targaryen approached Sheepstealer, determined to finally claim a dragon of her own, but just at the moment she reached out to Sheepstealer, Nettles crested a hill and saw this stranger approaching the dragon she'd worked so hard to tame and finally claim herself. Feeling threatened this silver haired rival may somehow commandeer the bond that Nettles had worked so hard to secure, almost instinctively Nettles shouted "Dracarys!!!", and Rhaena was no more.

While I don't think this episode was even close to the worst episodes of original Game of Thrones as people are saying I will say that this season is very flawed in terms of execution. It seems that so much effort has been put into making Rhaenyra and Alicent morally acceptable characters that it has stripped both of them of their edge and complexity. The show frames Rhaenyra's council as patriarchal jackasses when they actually have a fair point about her indecisiveness and hand-wringing this whole season. The men on her council had the opportunity to join Aegon and were actually incentivized to do so but still chose Rhaenyra, knowing that they would be seen as traitors and most likely executed. It is perfectly reasonable that they would be upset that nothing is being done to keep their heads from the block. I also think that the continuous tie-ins to the original Game of Thrones with the Ice and Fire prophecy has been a colossal misstep and further taints this season. Why would you want to tie your show that had so much goodwill from season one into a story that is almost universally reviled at this point?

Up to this episode. I thought the season was an 8 out of 10 but I think the finale dropped the ball pretty hard. Not only was Deamon payoff disappointing but I think they kinda ruined his character. He’s a believer of destiny and again for me, ruins and makes him less interesting. Didn’t like Aemond scenes. Comes off weak and none threatening. Really didn’t like the scene with the two queens. Felt off from a story standpoint point and the acting. Felt fanfic for some reason. I don’t know. The whole time I kept saying to myself “no way this is in the book” and from what I’ve read. It wasn’t. There a few good scenes but I’m obviously disappointed. Probably give the episode a 4 and give the season a 6 or 7. Depending if they are able to pay off things in the next season.

I loved this episode and this whole season. It felt so much like early GoT to me which I also loved and missed desperately when the shit show of the last few seasons was happening. My fears with what happens to Rhanera is that in the first season of GoT she is mentioned by Joffrey and her fate is revealed and it is not a good one. I won't say what happens here but if you want to know it is very easily looked up or rewatched and I am very curious and nervous about exactly how that plays out.

Darth plagueis gave birth to palpatine😂. He’s actually just palpatines master who teaches him everything but it would be cool if plagueis was also his mother

Disappointing finale, IMO.

I haven't seen Season 3 of the Bear yet, but have been wanting to watch it, just haven’t had the time. (HOTD is priority) I also loved the Batman, so am excited for The Penguin. So I'm IN!!!! 🇨🇦 ❤

She told the new dragon riders they were going to fly in two days time, and the window alicent gave her was 3 days. I think alicents plan doesnt occur

Comparing GoT to HOTD in terms of pacing is not an apt comparison imo. Sure, setups were long in early GoT, but they encompassed so many different worlds and were actually interesting conversations where we (a) knew all the characters unlike HOTD, and (b) progressed the plot. It would not be the same if GoT was just setting up one battle for 2 seasons. And even with HOTD focusing on one conflict, we still somehow barely know anyone on the small council. Sure, in GoT there were a lot of "people in rooms talking", but those rooms could be on The Wall with Jon Snow and Jeor Mormont, Stannis in Dragonstone, Little Finger and Varys in the Red Keep, Tywin and Tyrion in the Hand's quarters. Amazing dialogue, funny, witty, sharp... HOTD comes nowhere close to the level of GoT. I truly think its a false equivalency that a lot of people make that HOTD is so great because we're getting back to "people in rooms talking".

There were many, many times in GoT where it felt like there were an overwhelming amount of side characters we didn’t really know. Insane amount of characters. They developed over time. That’s what people are refusing to allow or acknowledge here.

@OystersClamsCockles Gonna have to agree to disagree here. GoT not only established but also fleshed out so many more characters by the end of S2 than HoTD. They were also so much more engaging and just fun to be around than these characters which effectively makes them more entertaining for the audience. GoT 1-4 should not be compared to HOTD in the slightest degree but to acknowledge they share the same universe.

This was a really good fair review and I agree completely. Was it the best episode ever? No, but exactly what you said! GOT 1-3 were a fucking snooze fest so what do we expect?
