I think the Hightowers are scared of Queen Rhaenyra & Daemon. Otto was scared of Daemon BEFORE Viserys passed away, when Viserys could somewhat control Daemon. Now that Viserys is gone, Otto isn’t safe from Daemon. And I’m sure Alicent is aware of what Rhaenyra is capable of & that’s before loosing a son, whatever she was capable of before, now it’s 100x’s worst & she’s scared for her & her families life.

I think Rhanerya should be Queen. The fact that her father had never told Daemon or Aegon/Alicint the story of Ice and Fire meant that true to his word he planned for Rhaneyra to be Queen after him. In some ways I think that he regretted being King (poisoned by the Iron Throne - also pushing to have a male heir as King and losing his beloved wife Aemma) and realized that if Rhaenys had been Queen the Kingdom would have been well and his life would have been so much better. It was too late to put Rhaenys on the throne but it was not too late for him to choose Rhaneyra who was a far better choice than Daemon the destructive or Aegon the dickwaver.

Once his second Hand died, the King should have made Rhanerya his new Hand and have her automatically ascend after his passing. She would been in place to rule after him. In his condition when she last saw him, she should have found a safe place to stay in Kingslanding for her and her family.

Rhaenyra absolutely 100% should be Queen. Her father made it very clear how he felt when he got himself up to the Iron Throne in front of everyone. He made it clear that her children were to inherit what was always meant to be inherited. Alicent taking Viserys's last words out of context before he died was absurd. Argon/The Green court has no clue about it about the song, and this pretty much messes things up. The greens see the throne as a seat of power and not duty (to the song of ice and fire). Whilst Rhanerya sees the duty and is willing to take her seat as Queen and fulfill her duties to insure the realm is bound together to prepare for the prophecy. And plus, Aegon is a drunken fool who is CLEARLY not fit for the throne. The confidence he gained during his coronation will fuel his ego and vices.

Althought Otto said they had to kill Rhaneyra and all her heirs to avoid any rebellion against Aegon II, Alicent was very adamant about killing any of the Blacks. So even if she regrets the outcome. This is all Otto’s and Alicent’s fault. Their incessant scraping, and scratching, and clawing for power has destroyed the Kingdom. First, they wanted to be the closest ones in proximity to the Royal family. That was not enough , however, because then they wanted to become the royal family and rule the 7 kingdoms themselves. Alcent for all her piety has raised arrogant monsters for sons. Rhaenyra has been a much better mother to her sons, who are kind, descents young men. And I am still not convinced that Otto did not order the deaths of King Jaehaerys, Prince Aemon, Prince Baelon, Queen Aemma, and King Viserys. Otto ensured that he always had eyes and ears on both Kings. When he wasn’t occupying their time with the Small Council’s business, Otto made sure Alicent was present to be their assigned companion in their quiet time in their bedchambers, ingratiating herself to them and learning their secrets. Just as she ingratiated herself to Rhaenyra. After Prince Baelon died, Otto took his place as The Hand of the King. Otto also encouraged King Viserys to replace Deamon as his heir with Rhaenyra. Then, Otto encouraged Viserys to replace Rhaenyra with Aegon as the King’s heir. I believe this was Otto’s plan all along. Just like Larys Strong has his own diabolical goals to attain power. I believe Otto Hightower has been slowly and secretly murdering members of the Targaryen Royal family for decades, in order to attain the throne and install a member of his family, who he can control. Alicent also loves to wield power through manipulation and shame, which is the reason she is drawn to Larys, as he feeds her the info, that allows her to wield this power. She employs it against Rhaenyra, her children, King Viserys, the servants, etc. However, Larys turned her own game back on her, exposing her hypocrisy and raw desire for power. Otto and Alicent are awful and rotten to the core, feigning respectability, so they won’t have to suffer the consequences for their actions.

Before the Targaryens showed up, the Hightowers were ruling in Old Town. Alicent played her part as the daughter of a 2nd son, with no power, who had to serve the interests of his older brother, plus earn his own way in life. She knew the rules, wore them like armor, and used those rules to judge and manipulate everyone around her. Even when she and Rhaenyra were children, if Rhaenyra did not give in to her suggestion or advice, she would immediately get mad and pretend to storm off. That is emotional manipulation. Even when she was comforting Rhaenyra, after the death of her mother, she was only really playing her, having Rhaenyra kneel and pray to the God of the 7, instead of encouraging her to seek peace using her Targaryen faith. And instead of confiding in Rhaenyra and telling of her sadness and anger with Otto making her manipulate and seduce the King at night in his bedchamber, she keeps this diabolical plan a secret. Why? Then once she becomes queen, she is not shy about making demands and giving orders, forcing Rhaenyra to bend to her will. Alicent follows the rules in order to wield power, using the faith furthers her cause to set herself up as a spiritual authority, as well as a paragon of virtue, above reproach. Then she uses her piety as a weapon to judge and accuse others, making them less than her. From the beginning, Alicent turned her nose up at Rhaenyra’s “strange Targaryen custom.” Alicent is just as much the architect of her own misery as Otto is. She simply enjoys the power, but despises the cage she built for herself. This is the reason her sons enjoy wielding power so much, yet ignore the responsibility of the consequences that come with wielding power. Like their grandfather and mother, they are only interested in bending others to their will. Aegon II enjoys using r*pe to control a woman’s body against her will. And Aemond uses brute force and threats to intimidate and terrorize others into doing what he desires, which is the real reason he chose to steal Vhagar, the largest, most powerful dragon in Westeros. Alicent was never innocent or ignorant, she has been playing the Game of Thrones, since she was a child, and is much more adept at it than Rhaenyra is. However, Alicent was never lethal, but now she definitely is. How many people were m*rdered in the 24 hrs. before the coronation of Aegon II? Alicent sat in the room with a dead man bleeding on the table and continued with the plan to grab power. She also sat silent when Otto openly ordered Rhaenyra’s death. She did not tell the head of the King’s Guard to stand down. She was letting it happen. Alicent is just as much a snake as Otto is, but she met her better in Larys, who is her mirror and her karma and exactly what she deserves.

*Future* *Season* *Predictions* *(Spoilers)* S2E1: Blood and Cheese S2E10: Battle at Rook's Rest S3E9: Battle Above The Gods Eye S3E10: Rhaenyra's death by Sunfyre Season 4 may not have any of the major characters from S1 except Aegon II. I know for sure Rhaenyra, Daemon, and Alicent will not be involved in the series finale. So much happens after Rhaenyra's death. It's going to be interesting how viewers will feel about this once the major players are gone. Pretty much everyone dies except Daemon's own children and Nettles. Jace and Mysaria will die. Criston will die. Otto will die. Alicent will be imprisoned and die there. Aemond and Daeron will get killed. Helaena will commit suicide because she'll go mad after Blood and Cheese. Corlys will switch sides next to "The Two Betrayers" after Rhaenys dies at Rook's Rest. Roddy the Ruin will die but he goes out like a BADASS the way Daemon does. Roddy will be a huge fan favorite next to Daemon among viewers who are on Team Black. Killing a couple of Hightowers before he exits the world is BADASS to me. That's a true warrior's exit. I think if a great character is going to die, let them die epically. Don't give them a stupid death like what happened to Jaime and Cersei. House of the Dragon is going get really heartbreaking when Daemon and Rhaenyra exit the series. They're two of the most popular characters in the Dance. Can throw in Aemond in the top 3. I'm not a book reader but from what I have read Nettles' entire character is based on lore. But there's one line that makes me believe that she falls in love with Jace (she took his death hard). And, with all the lore surrounding her "survival" it appears she most likely dies in battle after his death. When Aegon taunted Jace about teaching him where to put his "c%$k" I think it was foreshadowing that he would know without his help. Perhaps, a young tragic love story. As for Daemon, I can't see him survive the fall. However, Rhaenyra did say the sea provided an escape. Could be foreshadowing that Daemon survives. Just can't see him not going to be with his sons and protecting them. Could see him return in disguise to meet Aegon and Viserys when he's King later. There's so much the writers can do with this because the book is so loosely based on what happened. I know this by reading parts of wiki.

I think daemon should possibly be king, daemon matured, he is all those things you all say but he was bashed before had a chance, he's got weird principals on loyalty but he's better than most. So far most Targaryen men are unstable or falsely labeled but daemon was chilling a tiny bit. You cannot say it was bad he had it out for the high towers, he was right. Nothing wrong with being straight to the point. Yes I'd trust daemon as king but oddly I'd never trust him to ride vhagar even theoretically talking. I mean if I was in a Targaryen character shoes, I'd line lots of other characters up for execution too, I'd only kill the son or lord in extreme cases. He can be a hero and a villain. That's why he's hard to understand over characters written with clichés. Choking Rhaenyra was still breaking canon and Matt Smith read it and probably shook his head. Or maybe he just went with it knowing how ruthless he can be. Did Rhaenyra have much of a choice? Daemon is her most POWERFUL ALLY. Losing him is like losing her MVP on her team. Rhaenyra can't really piss him off or divorce him at this moment, can she? She'd probably be dead without Daemon before the war even starts. Since I already know that Daemon will be one of the biggest HEROES to this war, I'm really not that worried. I'm also confident in Matt having more creative control over Daemon that he won't ruin him because a few female writers seems to hate Daemon and want him to look unredeemable. The Battle Above The Gods Eye will redeem every bad thing that viewers will feel about Daemon. Newbies can hate Daemon for the next two seasons. But once Daemon exits the show, they'll start loving him like GRRM does. More people will figure out Daemon was the hero all along even though he'll do some awful things along the way because that's what war does to people. Commit awful things. People will flip their feelings towards him like they did for Jaime by GOT's S3E3 when he saved Brienne from a gang rape. Let's just say Daemon is complicated. And our feelings towards him should feel the same. We can love him and hate him with a snap of a finger. This is just how he's written and how GRRM describes him. I find Alicent and Aegon a little more complicated for the TV show. My feelings for them can be all over the place. I usually love Daemon in every episode except a couple of moments I didn't agree with what he did. Daemon is flawed like 95% of the major characters in GRRM's lore but his real stans will only learn to accept them. Jaime RAPED Cersei next to Joffrey's corpse and fans still rooted for Jaime. Daemon was just high-strung in that heated moment with Rhaenyra. But Rhaenyra doesn't have much of a choice. She did propose marriage to him after Laena died. She needs him as much as he needs her. What did Olenna tell Daenerys when they were in Dragonstone? "You're a dragon. Be a dragon." I'm starting to think Daemon choking Rhaenyra was also a foreshadowing of Aemond and Lucerys not being able to control their dragons. You really can't control Daemon when he loses his cool. He's as hot-headed and grumpy as Caraxes. _ *Matt* *Smith* *Talking* *About* *Daemon* There are so many elements to Daemon. I love the relationship with his brother. He’s a brilliant character because you never quite know what he’s thinking. I liked the ambiguity of that. There’s a ruthlessness in his personality that I thought was really interesting, to see characters who behave that badly. But in many ways, he comes from what he thinks is quite a genuine place. I said this to [the producers] at the start that I don’t just wanna make it this one thing. On the page, Daemon could really be one thing. I was always interested in trying to subvert it a little into something else. I think there’s a sort of strange, sensitive nature to Daemon and quite a genuine loyalty to him and humanistic qualities that you can peel away and see. What I uncovered, which perhaps wasn’t there in black and white, is that there’s a deep fragility to Daemon, actually - particularly when it comes to his brother. He cares what his brother thinks. The rest of the empire can go stick it. He doesn’t really give a toss. [he's] the antihero of the story ... if you’re looking for Han Solo, who’s always going to do the right thing in the end, you’re in the wrong franchise, folks. _ Daemon's greatest threat aren't Aemond and Criston but show writers. But Matt will save Daemon from character assassination because he gets Daemon just as much as George does. He improved Daemon with more compassion like the scene of helping Viserys and crowning him. Many scenes were an improv from Matt. HBO should fire all the writers and directors and let Matt direct all the episodes from here on out. There's a deleted scene in Ep 10 when Daemon first hears about Luke's death. He's trying to process it and thinking how to tell Rhaenyra. The final scene was Matt's idea next to the fireplace 🔥 since Targs are Fire & Blood. Matt has quietly been the MVP of the HBO production crew. The guy is literally trying to make Daemon look great because he fully gets the character while people in the writers staff want to keep destroying GRRM's favorite Targaryen and Aemond's idol. Don't worry, Team Daemon. Let the naysayers hate him or feel confused. They'll completely flip their feelings for Daemon by The Battle Above The Gods Eye. Matt will save Daemon from all the Daemon haters in the writing staff trying to turn him into an unsympathetic monster by adding bullsh-t non-canon/breaking character scenes like choking Rhaenyra and deleting Daemon hugging his daughters. Real Daemon stans know better.

I think Alicent was portrayed to be way worse than she actually is. Yes, she had some crazy moments, don’t get me wrong but I can somewhat understand them. I would want vengeance for my child if something like what happened to Aemond happened to them. It’s a natural mother’s instinct to want to protect your children, especially when it’s clear that their father isn’t going to do so. I loved Viserys, nothing against him. He just clearly had a favorite child. She’s basically grown up having to be a mother and a queen so all she knows really is that position of power everyone expects her to have. I don’t think she’s gonna be glad that Luke is dead. We even saw in the last couple episodes, she was trying to reach out to Rhaenyra and bring some semblance of peace. She wants her friend back. I’m more interested to see how/if the dynamic between Alicent and Aemond changes.

GRRM is an Executive producer and very involved with the show. Basically since the source material is from unreliable narrators (an interesting commentary on historical texts), the show is being spun at what "actually" happened.

No you didn't miss anything this is all speculation based on the source material, but the show has made significant departures from the book so all we know for sure is the very public deaths ( laenors death in the book was changed for the show so even the deaths aren't 100% guaranteed to happen the way they did in the book).

Yes, it has been confirmed that Viserys believed he was speaking to Rhaenyra. He would not have knowingly revealed Aegon’s dream to anyone but his named heir. That’s why Daemon was clueless when Queen Rhaenyra mentioned it to him.
