I feel like so many people don't get the point Jace was trying to make and then hate on him. Jace has been harassed by the greens and their supporters through his whole childhood because of his parentage. Having his own dragon, Vermax, was a reminder of his identity, that he actually is a legitimate Targaryen. But if any bastard could claim a dragon, what does that make him? He also has been saying through out this whole season how insecure he is about his legitimaty and how he wants to fight for it so he is seen worthy for the throne, so it's no surprise that he finally brought it up. What if those new riders just decide to switch up on them and want to have their own claim to the throne? What if Rhaenyra dies, Jace is her heir, will those men in her council and the rest of the realm that are loyal to Rhaenyra wanna fight for him? Those bastards look more Targaryen than Jace and who is to say that the realm won't change their loyalty because of that. Let's not forget the fact that they now got dragons that are way larger than Jace's own, he would have no chance against them

How can you have watched all 8 seasons of GOT and not understand the very good point Jace is making? "Power resides where men believe it resides" and currently the realm believes House Targaryen has power (deserves to rule even) because of their dragons and their Valyrian blood. Jace's legitimacy is already being questioned and he obviously lacks Valyrian features. His only defence for his claim IS that he rides a dragon. Allowing lowborn bastards to claim dragons - bastards who have Valyrian features and some even direct connections to the royal family - is a direct challenge to Jace's legitimacy. By getting dragonseeds from the lowborn, Rhaenyra is planting the seeds for another civil-war - stale oaths will not put Jace on the throne but power will, and now his power is dilluted. Rhaenyra brought him into this cruel world, knowing how badly bastards can get treated and shunned, and for years she avoided the issue of her son's parentage, putting the lives of her children in danger. How is Jace wrong to feel angry or fearful that he's going to lose everything to random strangers with bigger dragons and actual Valyrian features.

But like Rhaenyra said, what else can she do? Targaryen and Velaryon bastards have the same amount of Valyrian blood in them as Jace has, and it's more likely that people with 25-50% Targ/Velaryon blood could bond with a dragon over someone like Ser Darklyn who probably only had what? 5-10% if that? It's a chance that she has to take in order to take the throne back. But with that said, it's easy to see Jace's side, too. He's a bastard himself and obviously has strong feelings about it, understandably, and giving other bastards dragons also gives them power and reputation they could later use to usurp Rhaenyra or Jace.
@trainmap
@trainmap Ай бұрын
Of course you have a point, but I think what this scene/Rhaenera is trying to convey is that it's a catch 22. Jace isn't wrong for worrying about his claim now that it's known that anyone essentially can claim a dragon if they have enough of the right blood, but worrying about his claim is secondary at this point. You first need to get the throne before any of this even matters, and Aegon and Aemond aren't going to just go away nicely. That's the reason why Rhaenera is going forward with the army of bastards, it's a desperate attempt to recapture the throne that was rightfully hers. So it's an interesting dynamic between mother and son here, and great storying telling/writing

@@MugShotzReacts That's the problem: it's a short-term solution that creates a long-term problem. Vhagar can be dealt with by Caraxes, Seasmoke and Syrax. The risk of giving two big dragons to people you barely know, who can challenge the succession cause now they have nukes and silver hair, isn't worth the potential gain cause then you're risking another civil war down the line (in my pov).

@@MugShotzReacts it was stupid. Everything about the dragon bit was stupid, unless her main objective was to kill off as many Targaryen bastards as possible. Then it was brilliant. Either way Rhaenyra is now in the mass murderer club. Once she had her guards block the exits (and her own guards died as well) she crossed over. It makes me wonder how Mysaria can keep talking about the common people after seeing Rhaenyra kill the bastards that she brought.

@@randallwilliamson3838 In the book, the dragonseeds died over an extended period of time, individually attempting to ride different dragons. It was more of a free for all, anyone can seek out a dragon and try, sort of thing. Not supervised or controlled. But a ton of people died or were injured. The show did a good job condensing that, I think. Even if it makes Rhaenyra a little more fucked up. Portraying the Sowing as taking place over weeks or months wouldn't have been very compelling, especially with people already complaining about the pacing.

Hugh is the (bastard) son of Saera Targaryen, the 5th daughter of King Jaehaerys I and his sister-wife Alysanne had. Aunt of Daemon, Viserys I and Rhaenys. Saera and Jaehaerys had a troubling relationship and she went on to open a pleasure house and get out of court and lord-life, becoming wealthy on her own. So crazy call back here, but Saera Targaryen (Hugh’s mother. Viserys and Daemon’s aunt.) acted like a whore and disregarded her duty to the crown so King Jahaerys had her disowned and denied her Vermithor. Years later, Saera’s son came back and claimed Vermithor! In season 1, King Viserys tells Young Rhaenyra after this incident with her and Daemon on the street of silk that “King Jahaerys would have disowned you and been done with it” interesting to see where that came from. The Vale dragon I believe is Sheepstealer

The more I think about it, I love that Jace confronted his mother. Everything he said to her is what he thinks about himself, and shows that he's thinking past their present issues. Now he's been stripped of the singular thing that set him apart from other bastards. In fact, Rhaenyra set that boy up by Harwin Strong being his father but sealed his fate when she married Daemon. The bastard allegations were somewhat easy enough to sidestep for a time but the moment she bore two full Targaryen sons she did exactly to Jace what Viserys did to her. When Viserys married Alicent and she bore Aegon and Aemond, it provided the final piece for the Greens to usurp the throne. Jacaerys will have the same issue. Viserys II and Aegon III may not wish to challenge him, but if the house align and plot there is nothing to really stop it. We saw how Aegon II didn't want to challenge Rhaenyra but he was pushed to it because Alicent swore his half sister would kill him. Folks will absolutely back true born sons before they suffer a bastard on the throne. She's condemned Jace to a life of fighting for the throne and his own legitimacy even though she named him heir. The cycle just repeats. And if not true born sons, then just having multiple bastards come out of the woodwork to challenge him would be an issue

Hugh said his mother told him he was as good as her brother's sons Viserys and Daemon. That make her brother Baeolon the brave. Therefore, his mother is Saera, one of the 13 children of Jaehaerys and Alysanne. She was one of two of the 13 that survived both parents. She was cast out by Jaehaerys because she was promiscuous and unrepentant. She became a famous sex worker in Volantis. Also, I don't think the dragons care if you're scared or brave. A bunch of unknown people invaded his lair, and he was looking for Hugh. I thought the guy who plays Hugh did a great job of being a little more excited than scaerd. It was subtle but effectie.

I'd love to hear your guys opinion on the part where Vermithor started blasting the dragonseeds and Rhaenyra prevented them from escaping. Wouldn't the deal be off the second they run back for their lives? Blocking them is a deliberate act of murder, It ended killing all of them (except 2) and her guards burned as well. The Targaryen bastards gave their life when they came to dragonstone. Rhaenyra TOLD them that there were two dragons and most of them were gonna die and they still went there. @@Mutazili My take is - When Rhaenyra had that ‘moment’ with Vermithor where they both closed their eyes vermithor was communicating with her that he would accept one of them that was present (assuming he could smell/sense Hugh being his previous riders grandson) hence the smile from Rhaenyra and her refusing to ‘away’. She knew that if the chosen one was to flee her plan would be thwarted. So the collateral was almost necessary for him to be claimed? Hi Stefani and Mesel, as always thank you for sharing your journey with us. I think the reason Addam didn't say who his Father was, is because Corlys hasn't admitted to anyone that he even *has* bastard sons, and Addam wants badly to be acknowledged. Without Corlys' acknowledgement I think he'd rather no-one connected them. As for Alyn, I agree that he should be considered as heir to Driftmark. He even says to Corlys that he's "salt and sea", where Baela said the opposite "I am blood and fire". The debacle of dragon claiming is another misstep from Rhaenyra, we're seeing quite a few, and I believe it's to show us that even someone who WAS raised to rule, who HAS the skills to oversee the Seven Kingdoms, isn't necessarily one who understands how to deal with the unexpected. Her decision making under pressure is not great. Jace's push back is a sadness to me. He knows his claim to the throne is shaky in the eyes of those who know he's a bastard - and anyone who sees him, knows he is one, but in the past he could always lean on the 'fact' that only Targaryens can claim a dragon, ergo, he's legitimate. By allowing other bastards, bastards who LOOK more Targaryen than he does, to try to claim a dragon and for them to succeed, takes away the only crutch he had for his own claim. His disdain for the "mongrels" is tragic, because these are likely all things that he's overheard people call *HIM* in the past, and he's lashing out in his vulnerability. I felt badly for him. No Alys this episode, but young Oscar was certainly enough entertainment in Harrenhall. That young man has big giant brass balls. 'You want our swords? You better back me when I talk to the River Lords, no matter what.' ... Daemon's pride makes him waver ... 'do you want our armies?' Yeah. He's come a long way from the Daemon who bashed a messenger to death for carrying a letter of help, and then single handedly storming the Crabfeeder's base. Major props to Tom Glynn-Carney this week (Aegon), he had about 4 words and some groaning, but portrayed that pain so viscerally that I genuinely felt nauseous in sympathetic agony for him AND THE MAKEUP! Man, that team are doing a fantastic job. Add all of that into the fact that Aegon is now laying injured, scarred, and in agony in the same room, SAME BED, as his father Viserys will be messing with Aegon's head in a big way. Alicent may be having an existential crisis of purpose, but she's also a Mum who should be there for her son. She's no better at mothering than a cat. As always I wrote a novel, but I'd rather you knew I would have loved to talk to you direct, than leave a quip. Waiting alongside you for next week. See you both then.

The show was marketed as "If you think you know what actually happened, you don't" because the maesters accounting is what Fire And Blood is based off of. The show, however, seems to be an actual POV (like GoT) from all the characters, without maesters having a hand in it at all. Even George himself has said that the maesters have gotten plenty wrong, or embellished certain things, or left certain things out of their writings.

@@MFBlooshnot really my point. In the book, Rhaenyra is completely off the board at this point in the war. She's grieving Luke and recovering from childbirth. That may be sexism on the part of the maesters. But the show has had to invent ways to keep her involved whether that be her secret mission to meet Alicent or her relationship with Mysaria. Jace isn’t insecure and doesn’t yearn for the throne like that. Jace is 100% valid as he is being effed over for the future and he’s smart enough to see it. He’s seen Rhaenrya, the named heir, have to go to war for her throne because it’s contested by family members and by other high born simply because she’s a woman. Jace has black hair and has had to deal with people calling him a bastard behind his back his whole life. If there are silver haired dragon riding bastards, why wouldn’t some other high born lords think they might have the better claim over the black haired Jace? Especially if they are legitimized to take the bastard taint off their name? Rhaenyra actually has the numbers to beat Vhagar with just her, Addam, Daemon, Baela, and Jace, it’s just a guarantee that two or more dragon riders on her side will lose their lives and she absolutely doesn’t want to lose Jace or Baela and it’s risky for her own life as well. She wants the other dragon riders so she can send them to fight without having to worry if they die

People need to understand what a caste system. Once you have high borns you have royals and you have a low born That’s just the way it was. It isn’t being elitist like from our point of view today. The same way sexism or chauvinistic actions were not seen that way with the caste system they were just the way it was a very patriarch time period.

smh...Jacerys is verbalizing a very possible issue they will have to face with letting people they don't know, who are not loyal to Rhaenrya or their house, being given their largest/oldest dragons...and possible legit claims to the throne after her reign. These new dragons riders could defect or make claims against them.

Although I understand why, Rhaenyra does what she does by gathering the army of bastards I don’t know that is such a good idea to put a nuclear weapon in the hands of somebody you don’t know number one. Number two Jace has every right to be worried. The one reason that his claim to the throne has, a strong chance is that he is targarion and ride the dragon. It’s just anyone that happens to be blonde can jump on a dragon and ride it that diminishes his claim to the throne significantly. So I don’t understand why people do not get the point that that is what he’s worried about that that is a sticky point for him and has been his entire life that he has been put down because of his dark hair and now you’re going to have all these people that you randomly picked up off the street that are blonde but maybe not Targaryen that can ride dragons and you have a brunette who everyone rightfully so but believes it is a strong offspring it diminishes his claim to the throne, which is all he has been raised to do is claim the throne

For me, i was fine with rhaenyra’s decision with the dragon seeds, until the guards wouldn’t let the people who were fleeing the dragon leave and forced them to stay and get burned alive. I think there was a better way to do this instead of putting everyone on that platform at once and allow a massacre to occur.

To those saying that its unfairly team Black, notice that Alicent asked the Kingsguard to sheathe their swords, while Rhaenyra was willing to sacrifice people for 1 rider
@CW-rx2js
@CW-rx2js Ай бұрын
@@Flexor30 Rhaenyra did that because she was running out of time. I'm not saying that it's right- she definitely made a mistake there and that was a terrible thing that happened. But she did warn them of the risks and everyone knows what dragons are capable of. As far as her guards blocking the way, we don't know if she actually gave that order or not. In any case, many people are able to get out, especially when they were not blocking the women. I still do not like what Rhaenyra did though Alicent is the whole reason this thing is happening. Her and Otto are the ones who took away Rhaenyra's crown. She is literally the problem. And the reason she asked the guards to sheath this words is because she did not want the mob to get angrier and harm them more. It wasn't out of charity 😂 And aemond literally Burns an entire village, an innocent village out of anger.... But none of the book readers consider that an issue... There was no purpose served in that either. I hope they show that in the show as well

@@CW-rx2js fair point, but what i am saying is both sides are both people. Regardless of what the reasoning is, Rhaenyra is sounding more like Dany. Talking about being ordained and chosen by the gods. I am very positive that she will turn really bad, worse than what Alicent is.

Alicent told them to sheath their swords because she knew that if they started maiming and killing people on the street, the riot would be worse and they would never get out of it not for an altruistic reason

The Blacks are definitely responsible for the food shortage, but I don't think the smallfolk's reaction is bad writing. People don't behave rationally all the time, least of all when they're starving. People often side with whoever solves their problems, even if they were initially at fault. What else are you going to do, bite the hand that literally feeds you?

There wouldn't be a blockade and everyone would be eating good if the greens didn't usurp Rhaenyra's throne.
@havok6280
@havok6280 Ай бұрын
@MFBloosh that's a pointless exercise. The Greens wouldn't have usurped if Viserys married Laena or if the great council chose Rhaenys. Only the proximate cause matters. The purpose of the blockade is to starve the city and cause unrest. It isn't an accident. It's working perfectly.

Also the people in kings landing can’t do anything to the Blacks on Dragonstone. The Greens are right there in Kings landing and they’ve closed the gates and done nothing (like importing food from the Reach) to alleviate the hunger in the city.

@@MFBloosh That's called victim blaming. The blockade only effects the peasants, not the Greens, and Rhaenyra knew that. There's a reason we treat stuff like that as a war crime these days.
