On today's episode of Homeworthy we're taking you to Dallas, Texas to meet 90-year-old Joe Minton, one of Fort Worth's most iconic interior designers. He lives in a beautiful and historic home and is a fascinating person. His home's drawing room came all the way from England and has an incredible story attached to it. Minton's work has appeared more than a dozen times in Architectural Digest, and numerous times in other publications including Southern Accents, Veranda, House Beautiful, Town and Country and Traditional Homes. This is a beautiful elegant home and the fact that it backs up on a forest is perfect. This man has a great attitude. My mother also always said she would live to 100 and we just celebrated it with her. She is a watercolor artist and will have her artwork exhibited at an upcoming show. I think people need to see that older people are still vibrant and interesting.

Good for you! Our current age tends to idolize contemporary (modern) design and younger 'out there' designers, so much so that anyone who likes something other than current trends might feel out of it. But Mr. Minton's video demonstrates that even if traditional design isn't currently popular, it'll always stand the test of time.

Ps. If you want the woodpecker to come back, hang a really nice walnut/nut suet and toss a couple raw or unsalted peanuts in the shell *(hines)…they will come in pairs. Males have the full red cap, females have the half red cap. They will look for food together until they have babies, then one at a time e will come looking for food *(and water, given our scorching summers). ❤

I haven’t enjoyed another episode more than this timeless, connoisseur’s, understated collection, arranged to perfection. The home was a living example on how to live with furnishings, appointments, with comfort, STYLE, and hospitality. The garden was transportive, and the interiors transcendent. Thank you SIR , in 1979& 80 I attended El Centro’s interior design department. I loved the East & Orient Shop , and remember the Chinese porcelains, and other TREASURES of Bette Gertez . IMPECCABLE - fabulous taste. His home is what mine aspires to be when it grows up (it’s only 40 years old, so it’s got a long way to go still). I love that every inch of space is decorated to the nth degree….who does black lacquered floors, silver & gold leaf ceilings, wainscoting & mirror doors, floor to ceiling vintage ticking, etc., etc…..the list goes on (for miles). Even the Noah’s Arch concept of collecting & displaying a minimum of two (or more) of the same item, I wasn’t mad at - it was sumptuously appropriate at every turn. Not having your eye be able to rest on one thing because of the sheer volume of wonderful items was thrilling, yet everything flowed so seamlessly together despite the fact each piece was spotlight worthy. All the colors supported one another in such a old world, forgotten and effortless way that they hide their age so well had it not been for their patina which tells a different story of a long and well loved life! I can definitely see a book made to showcase this house’s style! I would pour over it for hours trying to absorb just one of his countless vignettes!! Thank you for sharing this spectacular property - it was a privilege to get to see it - and narrated by the designer made it even all the more special!!!
