Your home is YOU! There is no higher compliment coming from me. I am mid seventies and have never owned a home on purpose. I have decorated each and every space I've lived in and have no regrets. Where I lay my head is my home and I will make it as comfy and as much me as possible. I have done this for me and my family and that is all that needs to be considered. All my landlords appreciated me and gave me singing praise as I moved on. As the saying goes these days, "you do you!" What a treat to tour your home. Hugs from Toronto.

I love the way she made a whole lot of things in her home. It gets kind of boring sometimes people on home tours oh I had this shipped from Paris so I bought this in Africa on one of my travels🤣 . There’s nothing like the feeling of creating something yourself you appreciate it more😊💚😊
@BrownyBird

Yeah, the thing about Paris is very boring. Mainly if it comes from the Americans (I apologise if you are) that believe anything from France will make them look posh or superior.

@@BrownyBird. I honestly don’t think that’s the reason: Americans are by and large just migrated Europeans, and were drawn to the beauty from “home.” There’s something comforting in the things of Europe that could have been our grandmother’s or great-grandmother’s. It’s driven by both appreciation of beautiful things and heritage, in my humble opinion.
@craven5328
@craven5328 Ай бұрын
@@annemurphy9339 Canadian here, so definitely not American lol, but we share that we are both from "the new world" so to speak. When I first went to Europe, I was staggered by the history and patina of things. I was lucky that I grew up in Montreal, one of the oldest cities on my continent, that has managed to preserve a lot of it's 18th century architecture, but for so many Canadians I know, Europe was their first experience with the truly "old" and "historic". For me, it's not about things from Paris being "posh". There's a reason why Paris is the most visited city on the planet - the devotion to superlative aesthetics in all it's forms that the city exudes is sort of spellbinding. I love sewing and textiles, and the fact that I could get near pristine, 150 year old fabric for a steal in one of their flea markets was just wild to me, and eveytime I look at what I've made from those fabrics, I'm transported back to those 6 days I was able to spend in the city of light (I was an art major in university, so visiting Paris finally at 42 was also a bit of a pilgrimage).

This was a delight. Katherine is best friend material and her home is unique, charming, comfy--much like she is. I really enjoy home tours that demonstrate the intimate connection of those who live there to their space rather than simply a show and tell of all the expensive, new items consumed during countless shopping excursions by the occupants and/or their decorators. Katherine's method produces a home with a heart and soul. Well done!

Your "better than what it was" is outstanding! So artistic and inviting and thoughtful but unpretentious. As a lifelong renter, unlikely ever to be able to own a home (and nearing 60) I have chosen to personalise every space I have been in, and created a garden that I have had to leave behind in every rental. Nowadays the security in rental in Australia has collapsed, and you are lucky to be able to stay more than 12 months in a home, and the rent will most certainly rise every year, but each place is still my home for the time I reside there. Thank you so much for your warm and generous tour of your space, and I can see why people like to stay for a long time!

I totally agree with this lady - get a rental that needs cosmetics. Saves you rent, and you get to customize a place to look like its yours instead of a property management company's portfolio asset. And what I've noticed is that people who don't decorate their rentals don't do any better after they buy. They don't magically turn into a different people.

I love how you have completely transformed a rental home with mostly budget-friendly hacks and DIYs while sensible to the fact that there is a naturally a ceiling to how much we can/would like to spend to decorate a rental. I love how you made this space your own and invested in what makes it personal, livable, and a beautiful home for you and your family. Katherine, You are an inspiration! I love how I decorate with vintage, thrift and 2nd hand items in my many spaces through the years. I recently moved into a 1957 duplex rental. It was updated to white, white, white. They took away the 1950's charm. Not my choice, but I can't do anything and I do have a better place to live after my last apartment. You inspired me in the middle of the video to go back and buy the blue rolling kitchen cart that I had been eyeing. I got back home, put it in place and watched the rest of your video. Rentals have a particular kind of cheap carpets, but generally homes have better quality carpet for warmth. It's quite a cold damp place in winter. Carpet in a bathroom is quite unusual these days, but it was common when central heating and double glazing wasn't.

I just love your "Ikea philosophy" and the way you deal with it. Certainly one of the most interesting Homeworthy episode.

I think making this place your own is great! Your landlord must love you! Wherever we live, it should reflect what we love and who we are. The landlord will benefit, but so will you! Beautiful space!

You are so talented. Your home is a home of an artist. Gorgeous! You proved that any house can become a stunning piece of heaven!! I love your colorful art. Thank you for sharing, love to see houses out of the United States, they have so much character and stories to tell. 🙏💕 Beautiful home!!!
