House Tour: Feel Connected Everywhere in an Open Atrium Space

A home for a family of four in Yamagata Prefecture. Designed to be highly insulated to cope with the cold of winter and the heat of summer, the house is designed to be comfortable anywhere in the house. Emphasizing family connections, a large central atrium creates a seamless space between the first and second floors. The living and dining rooms have separate lines of flow to the garden, and sofas and benches have been built near the windows to create a comfortable place to stay.

Very creative design. The shadow plays on the walls and stairs with the sun are are wonderful. Always a different view. The built in seating arrangements remind me of Frank Lloyd Wright homes. The different timbers used are way more exciting than painted walls. I especially love the front of the home resembling ancient an old warehouse.
