put real plants on the sofa table but put them in white framed glass mini greenhouses, they have some at ikea for $20 that are so pretty. you can keep them closed for plants that like humidity but also slightly propped open for the ones that dont, but will still protect from kittys!

I’m not sure what it’s like in America but in Australia the fences are split between the neighbours which brings the cost down

In America it's more like whoever wants the fence put in pays for it. If both neighbors are interested in the fence then they could probably strike up a deal together but it's usually just one person who wants it for privacy, to contain their dog or baby or whatever else.
