She only mentions it briefly, but I think the trick really is to keep a cohesive palette through a smallish house. So much drama, but also very natural, repeated, balanced color choices. It's not a bright blue with a bright green... the blue is muted, though still bold enough to hold its own. It's not hot pink everywhere, but strategically placed. Absolutely beautiful example of how editing makes maximalism effective.

Finally, a designer whose idea of color is not a couple of spotches of color on a white room! I have a career where I live in other people's houses that I can't paint, so when I bought my own home, I committed to painting my rooms. I live in color. I love color. I play with patterns and texture against the color. No one ever enters my home and says "this is too much color" I love what this designer has done with color. I love the patterns, the wall paper, the ceiling paint. It's stunning and warm and livable. Even the black bedroom is beautiful. She's done an awesome job making her home unique and expressive with color. I love the green family room. I love that she's mixed patterns on the upholstery and curtains and I love the green lampshades. I have two rooms in my house in bright greens. I find green to be a color I can live with for a long time without tiring of the color. My living room is lavender with a deep purple accent wall, layered with shades of purple furniture and pillows and art work which I have balanced with antiques and modern shapes.

That is until I hired an interior decorator well known in my community. Gary walked into my foyer , living room and dining room and said to me “you do not need me”. I felt so validated. Ten years ago we downsized to a smaller, but not small house. I made mistakes about what I wished I had brought with me, namely some heavy draperies, that I could have reworked and a favorite overstuffed swivel rocker. After ten years and 8 major surgeries to save my life an auto immune disease, I am ready to finish unpacking and make this wonderful house my home. Your use of color, fabrics is an inspiration to me. If I'm being entirely honest, this home speaks to my soul right from the entryway monkeys on the wallpaper, down to the quirky painted bathroom and green entertainment room. Colour brings a home to life and even though it can be like a shock to the system in a sea of white, beige and bland minimalist modern homes, I think this is what I want in my home. I have somehow forgotten how much I used to love playing with colour. Growing up in high school, we moved a lot because my step-dad was a land developer and each room I had, my mom allowed me to decorate. I used to pick big, bold floral wallpaper patterns and bold paint colours to accent; then I would have a featured wall with wallpaper and paint the other walls above the chair moulding or wainscoting. It's so sad how much I had forgotten my love of colour.

I cannot get away from the expansive feeling that bold color brings to rooms. I am now inspired to go for it in decorating my new apartment. Her home is by far the most interesting, beautiful and unexpected one I have seen on all of You Tube. It says happiness and we could all use that right about now. I love how she says we didn't grow up learning to paint in neutrals. Life was full of color fifty odd years ago, cars, homes, etc. were unique. The color Pickle, reminds me of a favorite dress I had as a kid. My favorite shade of green. I am going to go and paint my boring white and battered side table a deep red, without fear, and order curtains in a bright color. Inspired.

Soooo nice (and refreshing) to see a house with walls!!!!! Love this! It's tiring to walk into some houses and the first "room" you see is the kitchen and family room.

Luv her & the home. More people should embrace color in their homes. So many have embraced depressing color schemes that I can see why they need to be on some meds to live in those homes.

Yes!!! I love this house so much! It's gorgeous and the designer Cynthia has done an amazing job of styling her home! I love maximalist style because it has so much personality and love. You can tell a lot of thought goes into choosing each piece. Thank you for sharing this beautiful home tour!
