I reckon the coolest thing is that not only did you build such a beautiful vessel, but that she gets used so often 👍

This has been a slow season for us as covid and a couple of heart attacks interrupted planned trips. I'm on the mend so all is good now and we still got out a couple of times as the boat is so comfortable, Why would I stay home on the couch when I can go boating on the couch! Lol!

Really enjoyed this video. I'm so glad that a loud bunch of rock and roll music wasn't ruining it. I'm about to build a shanty boat on a trailer so I can camp in it on the trailer or on the water. Again thanks for the video.

Most welcome Dennis! I'm staring a new design build that should compete with Teardrop trailers and still be a comfortable boat to go exploring in! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYHSn4iFiMhmjLM

It reminds me of a shorter version of the long canal boats in Great Britain. Love it!

Thanks Rona! I love the canal boats and that did partly inspire this design. Other influences came from old passenger rail cars and tiny homes! BestRoy

Thanks Brendon! You can see why my interest popped when you were cruising the St. Johns River! The Suwanee River is another I'd love to cruise in Florida. One of my builders has cruised it and I've seen some great pics! He was able to launch quite high up as well! BestRoy

@@roydesignedthat the Beagle Barge drafts about 10 inches at rest. I'd say a foot or 14 on the move. The flat bottom relieves some worry if aground...too much fun man ;)

@@backwatersandbackroads It is fun but we did get stuck up on a stump once because I push my luck! Most times it is just a matter of getting into the shallow water and pusghing off but this time we needed a tow off! Lol!

Absolutely love the design Roy, I can see this little houseboat being an adventure machine! How small of an outboard do you think would move it in still water? Would a 5hp push it on a lake?
@roydesignedthat2 жыл бұрын
Ours is a 9.8hp and it pushes the boat very well. In fact it has surprised the folks who insist it is too small when we take them out on a tour! I have a 4hp on a bracket that will move us well too so the 5hp is doable. I'd recommend looking for the smallest two cylinder outboard you can find as two cylinders will be quieter and smoother! A 4stroke would be best but up to you Matt! BestRoy
@mattholley36422 жыл бұрын
@@roydesignedthat Great to hear Roy, thank you! 5hp means I wouldn’t need to register it here in Australia and that would make the process even easier. This boat would be an ideal Murray River cruiser, the third longest navigable river in the world. Excellent cruising grounds. Subscribed for more adventures :-)

how much water, does boat draw
@roydesignedthat2 жыл бұрын
6 inches when slow or stopped Charles and when at speed, 6mph with our 9.8hp at 3/4 throttle, she settles down to 8 to 10 inches. Most barge hulls roll the water in front creating a troff to settle into! Note that DIANNE'S ROSE is a modified barge, having "V" sections 24" on each side that rise in profile to the waterline! This is one reason she handles rough water well! BestRoy see RoyDesignedThat.com for more info....

How deep is the water there
@roydesignedthat3 жыл бұрын
As little as 8" in the low spots but a foot or more otherwise Chris. Getting through the 8" section got us to an amazing beach and that is the pleasure of owning a boat that draws so little water!

Why two motors Roy?
@roydesignedthat4 жыл бұрын
For 7 yrs we only had one but if it were to quite on longer two week trips, it would be a long haul to get back to the boat ramp. The second motor is from my sailboat so is no problem to mount on the bracket as a back up!
