I will admit, I was a fan of Playstation however, if they messed up I was right there to criticize them. Like when they implemented paid online, I refused to use Multiplayer on PS4, except the 14 day trial. When they started the censorship and increasing prices, I stopped buying their products and went to Steam instead. Nowadays they're so far gone from what they made them great I forget the PS5 even exists, meanwhile the "fanboys" are still in full damage control and they will continue to support the travesty Sony's Playstation has become. I will never forget the launch window of TLOU2, truly a pathetic display to witness.

The core mechanism behind the rise of the fanboy is "ego-welding", a process where one's identity becomes intrinsically attached to a third party mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Formerly the province of certain organized religions and football teams, companies like Microsoft, Sony and Microsoft have all mastered it. The difference between them and "PC gaming master race" is that the latter aren't welded to a specific company or group, but to the platform, moreover the idea(s) of it. This is also why I still hate Xbox Games Pass - I know Microsoft too well to lend them an iota of trust.

I’m no XBot, ha ha. And I respect Phil for some of the things he’s done over the years, like with game pass and business decisions. But it’s just simply that, respect. I don’t obsess over him, I don’t know the guy personally, I just simply buy his products for my PC and Xbox systems. I’m just one of his customers, simply that. I think though there are some extremists of course that do take it a little bit far? Albeit it’s sometimes hard to tell whether they are just trolling and being sarcastic, or being for real. I think the only main difference between Sony Ponies and XBots is, XBots do have some degree of self-awareness. It might not be much, but they seem to show it from time to time. I’ve actually met some who are at least a little bit more open minded and can pay their respects to Nintendo at the very least. But it is what it is, marketing wants competition. Even if it’s toxic, Sony and Microsoft still benefit from the competition in the end from the funds thrown at them both. And the thing is, I was like these guys myself growing up. I will admit this. All the way up to the launch of the PlayStation 3, I was a Sony pony myself. But then when the yellow light of death happened, and I heard about Microsoft fixing the red ring of death, I went over and got myself a 360. And for a few years, I think I’ve pretty much went through some odd metamorphosis of turning into an XBot. But then I stopped gaming and joined the military, grew up. Got my life together, had a kid, etc. I think it wasn’t until 2018, then I started going back to gaming. I bought myself a very nice PC (Lumos) and learned a lot fast with it. And I even paid my respects to Nintendo, buying a Nintendo Switch and falling back into mobile gaming ever since I sold my Gameboy Advance. I think it was February 2018 I bought an Xbox One S and a PS4 as well, enjoying the properties of both but also seeing some detrimental flaws in each. XBox One demands your online clout for a big chunk of its functionality. PS4 says, “Fuck backwards compatibility”. And then of course we had the launch of the new systems, and I kindly waited almost a year after launch just to see which system was even worth my time, if at all. Well sure enough, I figured that the $300 investment in a series S wouldn’t be so bad. I figured, I’ll just buy it with the warranty, see how it goes. I already have game pass, so there’s that. But I also had physical copies, wondering if I should keep my One S or trade it in. Sure, I had a disc drive. And sure enough, my son was wanting to get into the gaming spectrum. So I traded in my one S, gave the series S to my son. Bought myself a series X. But my son also has an Nintendo switch, which he seems to like a little bit more since he can take it everywhere with him. Respectably, I still play my series X. I like it. But I won’t praise it like it’s the ultimate and godly machine on the face of the earth. Especially if my Lumos is outrunning its download speed and load times. There’s a pro and a con to everything out of these systems. I really think we all could use a good breath of fresh air, step back, and think. Not saying that we give up the things that we play and love, but at least look at what the other side does and see the common ground in between. Respect goes a further distance than bigotry.

Returning to this video after the Saints Row cope right now as reviews are released. The mental gymnastics to defend the game after it’s getting slammed across the entire board from corporate reviews to established KZbinrs to small time channels. Everyone thinks it’s shit yet the people who took over the r/SaintsRow sub for instance are downvoting and blasting people for criticism. I wanted the game to be good despite the odds. The horrific original CG trailer; the constant use of pre-alpha footage; the dead looking world; the dated gameplay; the cringey Gen Z/Zoomer dialogue. You got the psychology a bit wrong here. Not in a terrible way, but it's usually less specific like the "underachiever attaches themselves to team to live vicariously through them" and much more general, social, and common. That underachiever bit describes the super fan, and it's framing to make believe that you're immune to this phenomenon when you very likely aren't. For the general team sports/political party/video game fanboy person it's a matter of social psychology and the human need to create conflict by creating enemies and allies. It's also called the ingroup/outgroup distinction. All people grab onto "local" concepts, whether that's the local team the local prevailing political disposition or the one console their parents would buy for them and filter them into an "ally" camp solely so whomever they compete against can become an enemy. I assume because of an inherent human hunger for drama (a hunger that definitely exists or there'd be no market for fictional stories), and there's nothing more dramatic than the enemy/ally conflict when the allies are personally tailored to one's sense of local focus - local focus is very close to oneself. The other side of all that though, is marketing. Marketeers now have the very real intention of turning their consumers into fanatics for their products and abuse psychological understanding to achieve this end. This is because they know that the best advertising is word of mouth advertising, and a small cult following will proselytize their product for them for free if they can create the psychological conditions to make that happen. So they completely incentivize growing the social psychological ingroup/outgroup distinction with their product for the ingroup. So what you have is a natural phenomenon that's accelerated by marketing departments from mega-corporation with millions or billions of dollars at their disposal. No one's immune to the phenomenon (otherwise everyone would agree politically and there'd be no one watching football) but you can be wary of the manipulations by marketing at the very least. And as for the Blizzard fanboy phenom . . . go look at Gatcha games. That ENTIRE genre is based on building that kind of addiction.

I get what you're saying and agree with most of it but you're really being unfair to sports fans lol All these big teams and big leagues started locally with local players. It changed with their growth but the point with sports always was to entertain and bring cities together in a mostly healthy competition against each others. It's to bring all kinds of people with different beliefs together and give them an anchor trough something they share, the city while they cheer for the very best athletes in the world. Sure, some fans are overzealous but i wouldn't equate most sports fanboys with any other group of fanboys because when their team suck they're the MOST vocal about it(they're the only ones to be). If you're in 2nd place you lost it's a fact. You can't go and defend all your flaws because public opinion isn't deciding the winner. You either get the trophy or you suck it up and you're a loser it's simple as that. This makes it so that sports fans always want to work in ''their'' best interest to improve the team(and they do vote with their money). Sometime they get a little delusional too but it's about the GM not being brillant enough to try and trade the worst player on the team for the best in the league 1:1 lol There is some overlap between the 2 but they operate in totally opposite fashion. For fanboys of corporation they're just pawns at the mercy of capitalist greed. There's no trophy, no winner and no end because there's no ''game''. It's all shifting public opinion so fanboys actively work against their own interest all the time to make things that look bad, look good. They keep lying to themselves until they believe it and do it to preserve their IMAGINARY win. That's what makes them retarded. Some sports fans are retarded too but they still a different breed since they're going to burn the whole city down anytime they feel ripped off. 2 different universes. 🤣

oh it gets even worse, if you use any other launcher besides steam (just want to remind people, TF2 was one of if not the past pay to play games that added loot boxes back in 2008, so you can thank valve for some of the cancer in modern gaming), steam fan boys will go after you hard.

Thank you for explaining such things to me. I had never been really aware about fanboys. Overall I don't really understand the gaming culture at all. To be clear, I play games. I've been playing them since three when one adult showed me PS1. I even study a game development. I consider myself a person, who plays games, not a gamer. In my eyes gamer buys game merch and such... I have no idea why, what that brings them. I believe playing games is nothing to be ashamed of (Except for SR Reboot) but bragging about it? It's like bragging for watching a sitcom. Fanboyism sounds absolutely surreal to me. I like games, I like my classic motorcycle Jawa, I like one specific music. But why should I call myself "Viktor the gamer", or "Viktor the biker" or "Viktor the fan of that music"... I like those things and that's my opinion. Everyone has (or at least should) have a right for their own opinion, so why should I force them mine? Why should I ever gang myself with other groups? I have some opinions, some of them relate to some groups, others don't. By affiliating myself with a group, I would be somehow forced to follow their "official opinions", why would I ever wanted that? ...I think I just lost myself in my thoughts... In short: I feel sorry for fanboys and everyone should respect others' opinions (there are some exceptions for "killing innocent people is good" and such, but that's for different topic)

It was all fun and games when console warriors, were just children who could only afford one console; their preferred system. Now its just sad that grown adults act like manchildren, when they can just buy whichever console you want.

You clearly dont understand footbal culture, and though there are some paralels to be drawn it isnt the same, football clubs just "recently" made the transition from a non profit organisation to one for profit; and many still are non profit. Not to mention many were founded by supporters on religious, social class or political views; or a combonation of it. One of the biggest misconceptions is that hooligans exist out of under archievers, people from all walks of life join up with these groups, including a lot of people who are socially succesful. Many separate the club from the players and trainers, who are just passing through. I agree their fanatacism can be the same, but the foundation of where it comes from is totally different. Usually these groups often are also fiercely against the commercialisation of the game, or anti supporter/consumer practices from clubs, and unlike fanboys will boycot or protest against it on other ways (not always violently). So for those reasons I dont think you can really compare them with fanboys. And lets hope gaming fanboy will never copy the real world violent tendencies these groups have.

I believe the phenomena of fanboyism, and to a similar extent loyalty to a specific sportsball team, has a deeper historical root than you might have initially guessed. It's almost a form of surrogate tribalism, identical to the manner that citizens of ancient Rome would become fanatically loyal to a particular gladiatorial or chariot team. They would often react violently of their team lost, similar to how riots break out over sportsball outcomes today. Certain senators and consuls would even try to whip the clubs into frenzies and use them as impromptu paramilitaries. But the overall goal was the same: keep plebs focused on some external and ultimately meaningless rivalry while fostering a superficial group identity, so that they never realize just how porked the situation that really matters is. Former aports radio personality Bill Cooper did a _very_ interesting interview on the subject once, if you ever need a sobering redpills.

Never understood the fanboyism. Even at the height of the Xbox vs Playstation wars in the 2000's, I didn't pick a side. I started out the 2000's with a PS2 and ended them with an Xbox 360. My uncle had a PS3. I used to play on it when I went over to his house and enjoyed it. My brother had a Wii. Same story. In 2012, my dad finally bought me a gaming PC, but I also had a PS3 so I could play the Yakuza games. Truth be told though, I think the 8th gen and current gen consoles are all sh!t. I had an Xbox One and PS4 and barely used either of them. They haven't done enough with the current gen consoles to differentiate them from the 8th gen ones. They feel like 8th gen 2.0. Just overpriced garbage if you ask me. It feels like they only made them because the Xbox One and PS4 were getting long in the tooth, so they rushed something "new" out the door to milk the braindead consoomers again.

Am I a fanboy for liking Cyberpunk 2077 on release? While I understand people's complains, I myself had a near flawless play through when I played on release. I had only one major bug blocking me out of a storyline (The one with River Ward where you need to call him). And the others were fixed when I updated my drivers. Otherwise I didn't encounter any and I had a enjoyable time playing it. I do understand the negative reviews however after seeing other videos however.

I think alot of the fanboys are actually just trolls, alot of false flagging and general trolling just trying to get a rise out of actual fanboys. Unfortunately games have become so sterile and boring that arguing and shitposting about them is more fun than actually playing most of these games. Also I think it's not the shitty underpowered 8th gen consoles that made younger people switch to PC but mostly because of the rise of Twitch and streaming in general which is mostly done on PC and every kid wants to be like their favorite streamer/influencer. Theres also esports and competitive gaming, all the big money in esports is on PC outside of maybe fighting games.

I feel like your argument with the sports analogy doesn't really work because I can't explain the non native sports fans but most sports fans at their strongest and fanatic are in hometowns. Before these sports stars were millionaires they were people that came from the town they represent the town so when they do good the town looks good. Sure you can make the argument for tribalism but tribalism is in grain to all forms of culture An identity. Tribalism protects these things from being easily overtaken by another. I mean you wouldn't really be complaining about saints row if it wasn't for outside influences changing It and internal people causing it damage from their choices. Or even your ending statement saying how the lack of spiritual has caused this problems now. You can't have standards if you don't have a creed if you don't have a creed you don't have truth that influences your life. And if a other cannot be formed then you have no creed

Not sure I agree on the PC master race part. It's an objective fact that the capabilities of PC far exceed anything a console can, and many games that were meant to be larger had to be scaled down to accommodate the console limitations. Sure around the time of Play station 2 console had the upper hand but right now there is no question.
