I don’t know if you still see these comments since this video was seven years ago, but I literally just had a bamboo floating floor put in. Cost of materials with labor wasn’t cheap. They didn’t even bother to level the floor. So there are spots where it’s literally like a trampoline. I am going to have help reinstalling it, but because of your video I’m saving myself $2200 by removing and labeling the flooring myself. I’m also ordering your handy tool which you provided a link for in one of the comments. I am now a subscriber and I think you so very much. You truly are like the Bob Ross of home improvements. I just wanted to say thank you for this video. My Girlfriend and I just bought a house in Scotland and discovered the upstairs has beautiful hardwood floors underneath from the 70's so still good solid wood. Thanks to your video I was able to get the laminate flooring up fairly easy though they used a ton of glue which I had to cut with a stanley knife.

Nice video Shannon - thanks for taking the time and sharing. I have to do this exercise as the guys who recently fitted my laminate made a dogs dinner of it - I as going to remove it all and replace the boards that they damaged (it appears that they used hammers and brute force to click the boards together). I was thinking of numbering the rows and boards, such as row 1, board A, B, C etc. So code would be A1, B1, etc. Thanks again...

My Wife and I just bought our first house. We plan on replacing all the flooring in the entire house, wood laminate and carpet. We are going to do the flooring demo ourselves to save some money, is it a necessity to remove all the floor trim/baseboard, or can we get by leaving it in? I know we'll have to remove the quarter rounds, but I'm more worried about having to remove the baseboard trim since we're doing the entire house. Thanks so much, I have learned so much from all your videos! *(We are having a professional do the install)

Long shot here... I put some laminate floor the other day, after walking on it for a couple of days, I noticed there’s some uneven areas. I must have completely missed this spots while prepping the subfloor. I need to remove half of the floor to get to the spots. Do they have to be removed staring with the last piece I finished? Or can I remove them from any wall and just install them back in??
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 4 жыл бұрын
Most need to be removed in the reverse order they were installed. If you have any pieces left over lay a few out and hooked together and try removing them opposite way and also installing them opposite way they were intended to see how it goes before trying on your existing floor.

I have a few left over pieces that I tried doing this yesterday and it seems to work fine. The other issue is that there may occur damage to some planks. On one of the ends, there’s a tab that the plank which goes on front, clicks into. I had some of those tabs break off when installing. I replaced those planks with new ones, as I had bought extra boxes. I’m now thinking that if some tabs break, I could still use that plank. For example, if it’s surrounded blue other planks, they would hold that particular plank in place. Any advise on this? Thanks for your help!

If you are having to remove the floor access the floorboards to do some plumbing maintenance and you need to get to essentially the middle of the room can you just work your way in from an middle edge or do you end up taking up the whole thing? Are there groves on the ends or just the sides of the panels?
@Nga_Babaye
@Nga_Babaye 7 жыл бұрын
I know this question is a year old, but to help some else with a similar issue that sees it, the answer is it depends on the size of the leak, where it's at and is the underneath of you flooring wet. Water is the bane of pergo. You'll want to pull up all the pergo that has water under it and allow it to dry air out. This will also help against mold and mildew. If you think of the grooves in turns of male/female, the grooves starting at bottom going counter clockwise are typically FMMF. So right and top are inserts and bottom and left are inlays.

That floor have a basement beneath it? I've always thought that the underlayment was a necessary moisture barrier and needed to be taped (like on a concrete slab) or the laminate would buckle. Hardwood for that matter.

This home has a full basement below it. The underlayment for laminate flooring has two major reasons for being there. One is to take up small amounts of un eaveness in a sub floor and the second is for acoustic reasons. If you were using this type of flooring below grade you should have some poly laid below the underlayment as well. Taping the seams is recommended to help hold the sheets of underlayment together though.

I heard that the tongue and groove can get damaged upon remove, no matter how carefully. Is there a way to safely remove the planks? If they are damaged, can they be repaired?

Take your time and work carefully. There is no good way to fix them after.
