Vaccines often get a lot more government funding then regular drugs, which are mostly privately funded. The high costs of drugs comes from the years of research it takes to develop and test them. Typically development of one new drug can cost around 2 billion dollars. In the US high prices are also due to bad negotiation practices between insurance and manufacturers, in Europe costs are much lower.

You are over exaggerating the other way. A very large majority of kids with no vaccinations survived, obviously or we wouldn't be here. I had the measles and obviously survived, as did my relatives, my schoolmates, and so on. I had an uncle who survived polio, with no ill effects afterward. Are there diseases that you should get vaccinated for? Yes. Polio, smallpox, and tetanus being three. Yellow fever if you are far enough south. Mumps if you are male and have reached puberty without catching it. Rubella if you are female. But we seem to be in this no kid should ever be sick mode now. And at the same time we have all this asthma and food allergies now that were extremely rare when I was young. Is it wrong to wonder if all these shots and all these immune overreactions are related?

We all ponder what he would do in such. My guess is not a lot, he'd just continue business as usual. Not sure where he'd be on masks, he'd probably wear one but hate every minute of it. Diagnosis and treatment is boring, so he'd not bother - that's not really his job anyway. Though he'd be very blunt about calling people idiots for not wearing masks, and especially for refusing the vaccine once it was available. He'd probably even try to diagnose unvaccinated COVID patients with a psychotic disorder.
@unknown_individual70503 жыл бұрын
@@quillmaurer6563 Definitely. Most of his character is based in logic, and blunt logic at that. He'd probably say something like "Billions of dollars spent directly manufacturing and researching a cure and it's all fake because they want you to stay in your house". 😂
@quillmaurer65633 жыл бұрын
@@unknown_individual7050 Yeah, I'd love to see him dissect anti-vaxxer logic like that. He would be so savage about it, but also care too much to just take the attitude I and a lot of others are starting to take of "screw those idiots." He'd find some way of convincing people to get it, maybe even come up with some counter conspiracy theory like the Russians or Chinese are spreading anti-vax theories to weaken America - I once actually read of a doctor doing that to convince a mom similar to the one here to vaccinate her kid. Or he'd just give them a "routine checkup," or even a physical in order to provide "proof" they are "medically ineligible," and when they're not looking jab them with the vaccine. Followed by "Here's your vaccine card, moron!" That would break a ton of rules and possibly get the hospital sued, but that never stopped House before.
@FalonGrey3 жыл бұрын
@@quillmaurer6563 House would absolutely wear a mask, he even does so in this series. As far as the vaccine, it's probably a wild shot, considering most people are uncomfortable because of how fast it was developed, and the fact that it was done by shady, and massive pharmaceutical companies, so it might be like the time Vogler forced him to give a speech.
@quillmaurer65633 жыл бұрын
@@FalonGrey In reality the mask thing is probably true, though he doesn't seem to wear it as often as realistic doctors would - neither do the other doctors. Probably them being masked up all the time would be worse television, so it's more a cinematic decision than House's personality. A more telling thing is how he refuses to wear a lab coat, but the mask he'd probably think of differently because it's actually for patient (and his own) safety. Come to think of it, he'd probably like mask mandates for the reason he doesn't want to wear a lab coat. The lab coat would identify him as a doctor and he likes being incognito. Normally wearing a mask would likewise make him stand out as a doctor, but with COVID everyone would wear masks, so his wouldn't stand out anymore. As for the vaccine, I don't think he'd be too bothered by it being rushed, that's in line with his philosophy of taking risky actions that he feels are less risky than not taking them. Most other medical professionals avoid taking risk, as they get less in trouble killing someone through inaction than killing them through risky action, House's disagreement with that mindset has been a common source of conflict on the show. He'd probably even think the vaccine should have been released sooner, before more people died, thinking the benefits outweigh the risks. Comparing it with the time he gave a speech on Vogler's medicine, he disliked that because it was no better than the previous (cheaper) version already available, he was happy to endorse the old one, but he saw the new version as just a profit grab with no medical advantages.
