Nope, they thought her being a _hot_ girl made it alright. Keep your eyes open for that in a tv-show: some woman does something like slapping somebody who was rude to her, or 'pranking' somebody. If it's a hot woman, it'll be played for laughs. If it's a woman to old / chubby to be hot, it's evil. Or crazy. And keep in mind: this is fiction. It doesn't in any way, shape or form mean that it would work out the same way in reality. I think you can see that in movies a lot: hundreds of little examples of a pretty woman getting something just for flirting and smiling a bit. I know I've heard the complaint/claim "well women get anything just for being pretty" in real life, but how often have you seen this 'beautiful woman getting away with a crime just for being beautiful' sexism in real life?

I think the intent of this episode was to show Chase's sex life at the time was unhealthy because he jumped the gun and avoided asking seemingly redundant questions. "Is she under 18?" "Is she single?" "Will anything bad occur from me sleeping with someone I just met at a wedding?" Which wouldn't be too bad of a topic to tackle since it wouldn't necessarily "constant sex is bad m'kay?" but instead like most episodes of House raise a philosophical question, in this case being when too much is too careless...but BOY OH BOY DID THEY SCREW THE POOCH ON THIS ONE! Chase is in the end called out for admittedly blowing someone off harshly yet apparently that means escalating a situation by shaming him on the internet for his decision to not interact with her (actively avoiding a situation where she would feel uncomfortable because they both wanted different things) by plastering him as not a person but an OBJECT to be oggled at and/or ridiculed by is OKAY??? This is as bad as making fun of someone for being a sex worker because "lawl slut". Chase is demeaned for a mistake he made and she has no self-awareness of her own flaws, simply stating "i'd never do that"? He who is without sin can cast the first stone lady. What's that? You think anyone would be in the right when it came to something they were entitled to? Good, I know a group of people that everyone loves that feels the same way you should meet.

That actually isn't negative reinformcent; it's positive punishment. + reinforcement= addition of something you like as reward - reinformcent= removal of something you don't like as reward + punishment= adding something you don't like as punishment - punishment= taking away something you like as punishment.

I caught that, too. Those slip-ups used to bother me, but Skinner's terminology is hazy in common usage. We all know what she meant.
@TheSkepticalIdealist6 жыл бұрын
Positive and negative is something pleasant or unpleasant happening to you. so obviously this is negative reinforcement. No different to if he was hit with a stick every time he performed some action. That's what people mean when they say you can teach using either "the carrot or the stick", IE> The carrot is the positive reinforcement, the stick is negative reinforcement. Calling it reinforcement vs punishment is a matter of perspective. If you're trying to teach/train someone someone in certain behaviour then what you're trying to do is "reinforce" a behaviour and you can use positive or negative ways to do it. When you are being given the stick it can be perceived as a punishment. You can also see that someone isn't trying to punish or reward you, but you can see that your own behaviour is still being positively or negative reinforced. It doesn't need to be a conscious attempt to change behaviour. For example it can also result from revenge, so say you do something I don't like and I beat you up because I just want to hurt you. In any case your future behaviour will now be affected because something negative resulted from your behaviour. This is why abusive people can train people to become neurotic and self-hating by punishing good/healthy normal behaviour. This is negative reinforcement. Calling it punishment is entirely dependant on the point of view of the subject you're thinking about it from. For that reason it can be seen as punishment and not punishment at the same exact time. This is also why you can also positively reinforce behaviour unintentionally, but unintended behavioural outcomes are still going to result in positive and negative reinforcing of behaviour. This is why you can see "life" as punishing you, when you get negative outcomes to your behaviour. Life doesn't need to be giving you a lesson, but you can see it as a punishment all the same and regardless is still contributing to reinforcing behaviour. In other words, what you're saying here is wrong as well as pedantic and they did not use this term inaccurately. It was both negative reinforcement as well as her "punishment". They are not contradictory.

I saw this episode when it premiered. I didnt find it cute then and I dont find it cute now, for a number of reasons. 1. I dont like those scenes where female characters publicly humiliate men over petty offenses, mainly because of the fact that in real life most of these stunts could lead to the guy getting arrested and put on the offender list. 2. They expected us to think Chase deserved all of this because he was pursuing women for sex while being young, and single. I call bull. This woman took a photo of him without his knowing, posted it online to various sites, stole money from his accounts and humiliated him in front of his coworkers IN A HOSPITAL. Im not a white collar dude, but I know that being a doctor, generally speaking because I know he got promoted in the end, is one of those jobs where a scandal could break someones career. Theres no telling what kind of individuals might start showing up at his house or his job, or how much his finances were impacted. Yet all she could say was "actions have consequences" and "you needed negative reinforcement" over leaving her mid date. Chase had every right to record her confession and sue her afterwards. 3. Im all about gender equality in media, so it always annoys me when a show triess to make any male character that dare have a sex life outiide of marriage into a bad guy.

They will talk about "toxic masculinity", but then continue to demonize and ridicule men as "pathetic" and "unmanly" if they dare stand up for their rights. They will get (rightfully) outraged if someone wants to stop abortions, but then get equally outraged if they are no longer allowed to force the legal responsibility of that child on a man who never wanted it. And they will explain almost any area where men are doing better as "oppression of women", but never call it "oppression of men" when the opposite happen - like in family courts, the female dominated educational system, life expectancy, suicide rates, sentencing in general etc.
