Shaq always backs the big man. It’s a bias that comes from decades of being bludgeoned in the paint. When you consider how often O’Neal has shown retrains and not retaliated, it’s pretty amazing. My favorite was when he attacked Brad Miller when it wasn’t Miller who hacked him. He had the misfortune of being the nearest human on the opposite team.

When Kenny says "it's more excessive" it's like saying 100 is greater than 80, but forgetting that 80 is much greater than 0. Sure it looked like a harder hit, but the hit in the first place comes from a baseline of nothing happening, so to suddenly go from zero to potential broken ribs is way more serious than being pushed in the back. Plus Joker didn't see it coming either, so don't even start with being mad that Morris had his back turned. Joker's like "if you're going to jeopardize my livelihood don't think that turning your back is like some imaginary safe zone where you're not allowed to be hit".

Jokic suspension is fine in my books. It's only one game, but his message to the league will resonate much longer than that. There is no taking liberties on Jokic, he's willing to retaliate if necessary. And I believe the whole league take note of it for the rest of his career. So definitely worth taking a suspension.

@Lastly more I'm not sure that is what message is actually being sent. Players (or even coaches) could strategize against Jokic by getting him to retaliate against some scrub bench player, to possible get him out the game. Don't get me wrong. I actually don't have a problem with Jokic defending himself. I have a problem with the instigator getting a slap on the wrist instead. That could possibly encourage more attacks on Jokic, not less. I understand and respect the 1 game suspension on Jokic, but MM got off easy on this one.

NBA is making a mistake here, suspending wrong guy for retaliation, and rewarding instigator. If your intention is to injure other player, you should be fined and suspended for few games, period. Such intention could put opponent player out of games, season, end of career, or so.

I’m I get sick of Morris. Lying there like he’s hurt when he basically tackled(minus wrapping up) Joker. Yeah the 2nd person involved usually gets the harshest part of the punishment since he had time to decide whether or not to react. However, I’m with Jokic, he did the right thing and a small suspension is worth not being punked and crying to the refs. I’m sure if Jokic keeps retaliating, the suspensions will be more strict, but he did what he had to do.
