Rest in peace, Linda Balgord Fenton. Your memories will live on. ❤❤😢

I love seeing someone who is not "well-known" perform a role like this. Good work is not the sole province of "stars". What a delight. Thanks!

Ooooo she's singing it in the original key as well. i always thought Patti was the only Norma to do this in London.
@HouseOnSunset6 жыл бұрын
Ann Crumb did it too in the 2010 Arvada production.

OOOH!!! I live in Denver and am still kicking myself for missing this! Linda Balgord was one of the best Normas out there!

Breathtaking. Her tone and ability to go between mix, chest and head is a master class in and of itself. I would have LOVED to have seen her go on for Patti in the Gypsy revival.

Simply UAAAAAUUU!!!!! What a performance! And I love Miss Paige doing the role. But Miss Balgord is great, too, in her own way.

It's interesting that Linda sings this so stunningly in its original key here, ending with the same glorious D as Patti, but, in the finale, does it a lower key, ending on the more customary B (rather than the D that Patti once again sang).
@fergusmurray18284 жыл бұрын
Maybe she didn’t have the stamina to constantly belt Ds throughout the show.
@kaitlynrowena5463 Жыл бұрын
The original key? How’s it different sounds the same to me
@chrisjacobs741710 ай бұрын
@@fergusmurray1828oh yes she did. She had to fight to keep the song in the original key. She has spoken of this in interviews

Perhaps it's because when Linda sings in the original, it doesn't sound like her head is about to explode. ;-)

I saw several Normas (but sadly didn't catch Linda live). Petula was the least impressive but I did enjoy how ruthless and erratic her Norma was.

@Sampiro The 1st US Tour was a major flop and closed down in less than year after about five venues. Linda Balgord was ripped apart by the bitchy fans and film critics for not being a household name and encouraged theatre goers to ignore the touring production because it did not have a "star" attached. This was partly responsible for the loss of money (and RUG's insistence of keeping the tour 99% like the stationary productions.)
@kaitlynrowena5463 Жыл бұрын
What do you mean ore like the stationary productions? What were the differences?
@HouseOnSunset15 жыл бұрын
@Sampiro Less than a year after the 1st US Tour shut down, the pretentious mess directed/revised by Susan H. Shulman opened in Pittsburgh. It toured through more obscure venues for 18 month, using footage/stills from Petula's run in the original London production and only lasting three/four days in each venue so the audience wouldn't catch on they were being duped. Of course, rabid Lloyd Webber bashers immediately branded the tour "awesome" just because it was so far removed from RUG.
@HouseOnSunset15 жыл бұрын
Nope, they COULDN'T. That's the point, they couldn't find any other "name" actress who's name would sell tickets. If they didn't push the whole "star vehicle" aspect of the show, this never would've happened and actresses like Linda Balgord and Christina Grimandi would've got the respect and honor they deserved for their work in the show.

It WAS in the higher key for Linda and Patti. I think Linda sang it better, though.
