Looks like most people do this. If the door is metal, you really should have a bit for thin sheet metal. A twist bit does not work well.

the reason it looks so crappy is because they used too large of a bit, if you want to error on the safe side use a bit slightly smaller than the packaging recommends you can always use a bigger one but you can't undo it after you've already drilled a hole that's too large. plus when drilling keep the drill moving when you back out as well as drilling in this will prevent a rough edge around the hole you've just made. also use caulk during application to prevent air and moisture from leaking in.

You left out the part where you drill a hole at the top of the door and fill the door with water so the peephole can expand and fill the 1st hole.

Wow, not only did the job look like crap after, the hole drilled was too large, plus you also showed silicone in the tools needed and didn't use it on the door??

That's a terrible hole! They're using the wrong kind of drill bit, that's why. You should use a hold saw with guide bit for this...

@@theamerican4609 The thing is if you look for what the recommended bit is they say to use a regular bit on anything but a wood door and to use a spade bit on a wood door. This is all over, not from this video.

Technically you could probably find some type of washer to go under both sides, up against the door. But with the way they drilled it, the washer wouldn't sit flush.

Fill the hole with putty and reshoot this using a sawzall instead. Don’t wait for the putty to dry, just give it the beans.

Crap job. Wrong information. Hole saw for wooden doors, step bit for metal door exterior followed by drilling out the inside as appropriate. Put wide tape over the drill point to avoid splintering. It's incredible that they leave this posted!
