Brian, enjoy the video and the detail you show. I purchased the plans and am in the process of gathering all the goodies. A couple of things FYI. The motor you show is out of stock. I have been in the welding business for over 40 years, like removing mill scale (which I endorse 100%) If you take the time to clip the ball off of your wire each time your starts will improve, especially on short welds. The other thing I would suggest is to clamp the ground directly to you part to be welded. Small detail but they do make a difference. I will have my parts laser cut because I have a customer who has offered and I plan on TIG welding because I have the equipment. Very good work and great plans. I will send some pics when I am done. I gave up on TIG and went to MIG after running out of $90/60CU Argon twice. I'm pretty green, but TIG seems extremely slow/expensive for this. Got any tips for using TIG for plug welds?

Love the build ! Really like all your plans and how-to videos, Helps out tremendously! I'm getting ready to do my own build. I have alot of 1/4" plate. Was wondering if I could substitute all the 3/8" plate for the 1/4" of if I should stick with 3/8"?

The D plate definitely needs to be thicker than 1/4. Most other things would work fine I would think.

I thinking of making mine 14" from center of wheels. Do you think going this big will work. Or should it be shorter? Hi Brian, Great channel I just bought some plans. I am going to be using this unit for sharpening lawnmower blades. I'm going to be featuring your grinding unit on my channel, but I was wondering if you had any input or suggestions on making a jig for sharpening lawnmower blades. I see your grinder is up on a pedestal. What is that made of? I just put a 2HP on mine and came to find out that the risers are just a bit too short to rotate clearly with the cooler on my motor. :( Everything is complete, just waiting on the VFD. The only setback I ran into aide from that is in the picture for the receiver tubes (step 4, Rev 8) shows the knob holes drilled in the correct position, but the tubes themselves aren't shown in the right orientation. When you weld them (step 10), there is no indication that the holes should actually be opposite of each other, so it was a bit awkward to balance in the drill press to drill a new hole. Not a deal breaker :) It's tracking by hand like a boss, and everything is within ~0.1deg across the board. Digital levels really are that amazing. Excited to fire it up tomorrow!

I used 2x2 to raise up the machine because the rolling cart I bought (Sam’s club) was a bit too low for my liking. I’m working on new more clear drawings for the next revision. That is a helpful mention. (I can’t see it because I am too close) 😁

I bought your plans a few months ago and I’m almost done with the entire 2x72 build, I’d say 85% done... I’ve got a question. Once everything is together and you flip that switch for the first time, how hard is it to get the belt tracked and run running straight???

I'm stuck! I finished the build and the grinder 100% is ready with the exception of heat treatment of the 80crv2 plate. I have the plate cut, drilled and tapped but heat treatment for this hunk of steel seems very tough for the amateur knife maker to do properly, am I over thinking this? I have a forge and a bucket of AAA Parks but I'm reading that this will give very unsatisfactory results, can you offer any advice?

80CRV2 decarbs a lot. I bet your plate is very hard just under the thin layer of carb. Very common mistake made with that steel.

Thank you for your reply. You were correct, i am now up and shredding steel! This thing kicks butt! 36 grit Norton Blaze ceramic, it's almost as good of a firestarter as it is a grinder! Lololol

Great info Brian!, I just got all my stuff in and starting my cuts tomorrow, I bought my high carbon steel as suggested from New Jersey . So I am not a knife maker and don't have the Heat treat setup like forged with fire.. is there an easy way to do this? and is it necessary ? Thanks Danny

Good question, I would try to find someone who has a forge, maybe a blacksmithing community page somewhere near you? They can do this for you in 10 mins. Otherwise you can send it out for heat treat, probably cost less than $10 to have it done. Peters Heat Treat does this.

The DXF file is included to cut the bracket out via CNC. If you buy the kit it comes in the kit itself.

I hate those wheels. The ones I find are the best are the ones that are several bearings all lined up and can be replaced by removing the pin. I find they last way longer and can be easily fixed with 25$ worth of bearings if they fail. I love what you've done with the revolution though. The pivoting design for the horizontal positioning is beautiful
