I’m having flashbacks to 2005. Not just with the team but with lance and John. Used to listen to these guys everyday. It feels like this exact same thing happened back then. John was optimistic and Lance said it was “highly statistically improbable.” Or something to that effect that became a running joke. It was twenty years ago but darn if history doesn’t truly repeat itself.

ESPN released its first half awards article and they left Blanco out of the top ten Best pitchers even though his numbers are better. I’m not saying he is going to win a cy young but statistically he’s been better than most of the guys in that list. I’d say all but two or three.I don’t know why he’s getting ignored.

@@brandondillman5841 They didn't "win 1 series." They're 13-7 in June and could realistically finish the month 16-9 or even 17-8. They need another starter and middle reliever down the stretch, but yeah, I think it's safe to say we're back.

The problem is how many times do the Astros do great against a great team and then show up and get wiped by mediocre teams? I don't even ever expect them to win when they go to KC anymore (for example). If they can play the way they played against Orioles then they can definitely be at 500 by the end of the month--but now they're playing mediocre teams--and the pattern in the past has been to slack off and lose a bunch when this happens.

KC is good this year and you are wrong. Astros are only 13-22 vs teams above .500 and that’s counting the sweep over BAL. We’re 9 games under .500 against the good and plus 7 games above against the bad. If the rangers climb back over .500 (which they should) then the numbers are going to get even more pronounced. We been getting crushed by the good teams.

@@1TightMinute Well, they are over 500 this year (KC). But, if you look back at the history of the team season after season this has tended to be the case with KC, I believe. The reason I am so aware of this long term (at least with KC) is that I have a friend there so we tend to fall onto this topic repeatedly. I don't consider 1 year over 500 to make you anything over a mediocre team and KC has a recent history of being at the bottom. I hope I am wrong about the upcoming games--but I guess we'll know soon enough. You are using this season as being "usual," but this has been anything BUT a usual season (find out the last time Stros were over 500 at home).

@@duanebidoux6087 KC won the World Series less than ten years ago. They were bad the last couple of years but they have a solid group of young talent lead by Bobby Witt Jr. their rotation is solid. They were rebuilding but they are not a historically bad team for years.

@@1TightMinute I was really only referring to last year and year before (for the most part). We would have a chance to get around Rangers and have some victories against good teams and then lose against teams like KC (who were not at all good at that time). I don't have the will or gumption to look up record against KC last year but if it was over 500 I have some really faulty memories (and they were near the bottom then). Good talent and prospects now for KC--but this has not been a "normal" season for Stros for sure. When was the last time Stros had a winning record at home?

John Granato's optimism is good, but it is like a Sailor who has fallen into the Drake Passage. It's like listening to "experts" who keep mentioning Lance McCullers Jr. being out of the rotation of starters. McCullers is part of the IL rotation and not pitching rotation and the Astros aren't hurting with him out of the rotation. I agree with Lance in enjoying the game to game, because when Montero and Pressley get on the mound to "relieve", the opposing team is the only ones who see any relief from their pitching.

In June Astros 13-7 Yankees 12-9 Orioles 13-9 Phillies 11-8 Dodgers 12-8 Division leader Mariners 13-8 The Astros are doing a little better than winning one series. They're performing as well as the best teams in baseball right now. April was bad, but it's not April anymore.
