As the wife of a man who received a full football scholarship to UH as a kicker 44 years ago, this brings tears to my eyes. His mom must be so proud! Way to go, Coach Levine, for capturing it all on video for this young man and his mom.

They should sue the school for videotaping them without permission. That'd be way more lucrative then a scholarship. Just kidding. Congrats to Kyle for the scholarship. And glad to see Tony is able to enjoy some of the true perks of the job.

see the emotion from the kid and mother? That's how valuable a full scholarship is worth. Paying athletes is wrong.

i might be ignorant but why do colleges give so much scholarship money to atheletes? i mean the odds of the players becoming pro (like nfl) are very slim and most end up as highschool or middle school coaches anyway. they would be better off investing that money in academic scholarships because the future of our economy and nation relies on education and there are a lot more opportunities for advances with academics

Colleges typically only reward full rides to students that are both great athletes and students. Now what im about to say is going to sound like utter bull, but two girls from my school for bowling got full rides. Both had great academic performance with 3.6 GPA's or above while being outstanding bowlers. The only colleges that ive seen give out large sums for great athletes with poor academics is the large division one universities, but both girls are attending division one as well. Colleges dont really give out money to dumb people anymore. And the reason why they care about the athletes is because its like highschool. Colleges like to brag about their teams and win championships. One of those girls I mentioned earlier is attending Sam Houstan State and was on the womens NCAA championship winning team this year and is from Michigan. Its about bragging rights.

***** thats not answering my question my question is why give out sports scholarships in the first place, when you could be giving that scholarship for academics instead. I'm pretty sure this guy kyle is smart

***** i'm not stuck, just puzzled. I think we're both stuck because neither of us can come up with answers.

yumasiancooking Universities rely on sports as a major income for them. If they are well known for a certain sports program media outlets will want to cover it and thus will bring more students to that university because of the prestige that they gain.
