Honestly the trains are nice, but I believe they should have considered a skytrain and have this light rail replaced. Everyone will benefit; it is much faster, grade separated and build over the street to give better views. There is potential but sharing lanes with cars slow it down by a lot. The stations are definitely placed in dense areas, which is far better than most Dart stations.

You’re right but only part of the way is shared with cars like on the purple line. Yes the red line is at the same level but at many intersections they have railroad crossing gates so the train doesn’t need to wait for cars. I think also stopping at many stations slows the train down a lot.

Maybe a skytrain (and of course in Houston underground is really hard due to flooding) can be for the commuters who need to go from further parts of the city like Downtown Houston to Sugarland or to Galveston and very few stops in between while we keep this light rail for those who have different destinations every mile or some short distance.

@@jayasmrmore3687 Yes you got it. Similar model to that of the Stockholm metro & pendeltag. I told that to the DART agency, their biggest mistake is the train functions as a light rail & commuter rail. It’s awful, way slower than a commuter train and too distant for LRT travelers.

Yes that's true about the DART stations, but remember that DART is using dedicated railroad right of ways, is much faster, and there are over 90 miles of DART rail lines, and another one is being built right now. It's fairly efficient travel especially for moving people long distances quickly.

At this moment, METRO is focusing in expanding the Silver Line and other BRT projects. I believe they will soon talk about expanding METRORail once the BRT is settle for construction.

How to buy tickets on station and board train?

Each train station has a ticket vending machine (TVM). The fare is $1.25. After purchasing a ticket, the TVM will issue you a ticket. Take the ticket and board the train. Sometimes, an fare inspector may randomly ask for ticket.

When they are in light use they do 1 car but heavy use they do 2. If 2 doesn’t cut it then since they can’t have longer trains they just have more in service.
