Houston is one of the most underrated cities in America-the diversity is amazing; when I lived there I met people from Turkministan and Paraguay and all other countries that most people never really hear or know anything about. So random lol. Great food, excellent world class museums and parks; I also never met so many smart people in my life while living there-so many chemical engineers and doctors. Yeah, it's humid and the traffic sucks and there is no urban planning really, but it's lush and a really exciting and dynamic world class city.

Houston doesn't get the credit it deserves. its a very major global city but it gets overlooked by New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago because these cities are on the coasts and Houston is in the south. I assure you that Houston is definitely up there with those cities in food, culture, diversity, importance and the list goes on. when people visit Houston for the first they definitely surprised of the stature of the city from downtown to galleria area to the Texas Medical Center on to energy corridor. the city is massive. How can someone not recognize that it is a top tier city. I've been to Los Angeles, Houston and LA have a lot similarities. LA was very laid back in vibe but very Fast-paced at the same time just like in Houston.

I'm originally from Ohio but moved to Houston when I was a child. I've been here 42 years, great city, great vibe! I've only experienced 3 hurricanes since 1980. We also don't get the tornadoes like the Dallas/panhandle part of the state does. Flooding is the main concern, if you are contemplating relocating, make sure you have a Realtor who knows the area well so they can guide you with the FEMA flood zone areas. If a house is gorgeous but a lower than expected asking price, most likely was flooded previously. Regarding the humidity/heat, you get used to it. The bonus to high humidity, it keeps you looking younger longer, keeps your skin moist and not dried out, I've rarely used facial moisturizers over the years. My a/c system has a humidity control, so no stickiness indoors. I don't do many outdoor activities in June-August unless it involves water to stay cool or in the evening hours.

Well, be VERY careful where you go; lots of crime in H-Town!! Drive safely on the freeways! Safe trip!

I very much enjoyed this video. Very upbeat and positive. I relocated to Houston in 1981 from the northeast part of the USA. I have seen major changes in infrastructure and attitudes here over the years. When I moved here, Houston was thought of as kind of a back-water, dirty gas & oil town. But from where I was originally from, Houston was and is a major upgrade. It still has a ways to go, but it is going in the right direction.

@@MoonOvIce NYC. Which, back in the 70's, was known as Fear City. Times Square was crime, prostitution, drugs, muggings and more crime. I remember after I left reading about Bernie Getz and cheering him on. I remember the "wilding" incidents in Central Park where "youths" would go up to anyone and beat and rob them for fun. They eventually killed a tourist, which finally sparked some outrage. I remember stepping outside my own door and doing a slow visual sweep of my surroundings before heading on my way. Life in the modern, "civilized" jungle. And while there is such crime here in Houston, I'm allowed, by law, to defend myself from it.

Grew up in Rhode Island. Moved here after my time in the Navy. (6 years) From 1992 to present. Hurricanes and the far and few winter storms that knock out the power it really is a great place to live. Heat and humidity are the toughest from July, August and September. Yes even October can be bad. The food is outstanding. This is a foodie city.

Thank you so much for this video. I grew up in Houston and have moved back years ago. Yes, it's hot summers which some don't like, but I love it! About diversity. Omg, so true. I'm a descendant of the Cajuns (French/Spanish) Cubans, and Jews who moved here decades ago. Now, we have Koreans and El Salvadorans. It has always been diverse. Thank you again.

Nice video but you left out the wonderful BBQ scene and fact that Houston served as the home of 3 former US Presidents, Lyndon B. Johnson, George Herbert Walker Bush and George Walker Bush. The property taxes that the gentleman hit on towards the end of the video speaks to a major portion of my pain, living in this city that I love. We get hosed in the Memorial area. Thanks for posting!

VERY thorough overview of the city and you touched on many pros and cons of the city coming from a born n raised Houstonian. You missed the young areas like Heights and Montrose! BUt other than that a really good job. I will say that we DESPERATLEY need to work on moving away from a car-heavy transportation infrastructure and more towards accessible public transit expansion and walkability downtown. STOP THE SPRAWL and STOP BILLIONAIRES from ruining the city!
