Harvey was devastating. My one brother's house was flooded. What some people don't realize, Harvey made landfall close to Corpus Christi and moved up the Texas coast. Pretty much the entire coastline was flooded from Corpus all the way into Louisiana. Devastating flooding. I lived and still live about 35 miles northeast of Houston. At one point my small town was at the top of the list for most rainfall. It was unreal how fast the water rose! And it was so cold, which is unusual for hurricane temps. 4 1/2 years later and there are still some people trying to recover.

RaviWay Inc. We have them the water came up so fast we had to empty them to keep them from breaking
@cats4006 жыл бұрын
Houston lies on a fairly flat plain. During Harvey it rained so much that the bayous that empty into the Gulf couldn’t carry the water fast enough to keep the bayous from overflowing their banks. The Addicks and Barker Reservoirs were built to mainly protect western and downtown Houston. They work by collecting the water upstream and then releasing the water into the bayou in a controlled manner. Harvey dumped so much water that water was spilling into the bayou at an uncontrolled rate and they had to open the floodgates more because the dam was threatening to breach. If the dam had broken during Harvey, thousands more would have died. The Army Corps of Engineers has a very tough decision to make during Harvey and I believe they made the correct choice. They chose to sacrifice homes immediately downstream from the reservoirs in order to limit the amount of flooding that could have been done if the dam broke.
