If anyone is interested, the reason varangian guard seem slightly out of place as vikings in terms of their looks is because their armour wasn't actually made by the vikings, varangian guard were mercenaries the byzantines hired and paid for the gear of, despite the image alot of people had vikings were actually very capable and tactical fighters and used their image of 'ruffian barbarians' to make the enemy underestimate them and alot of them got decent mercenary jobs, the varangian guard not least of all with their pay, armour and weapons coming from the byzantine emperors own pocket, they were basically the rich kids of Viking mercenaries because they were seen as one of if not THE most elite class of mercenary in the Mediterranean area, the reason they retain alot of viking-esque features is because the emperor wanted his enemies to know who they were fighting, and to be very afraid. (sorry for any issues with me punctuation or if this dragged on a little, ive just always had an interest in the vikings that went to the Mediterranean area)

It should also be mentioned that they had access to spoils directly from the Roman Emperor himself, that being that they could raid his room after he died. The Varagians had a lot of privlages, and even deposed an emperor with the favor of the people. The Romans didn't view them like they did the Goths centuries prior, but rather as another extension of the empire. I'm not great at remembering the names of vikings, with that said I believe that Harold Hadrada was once a Varagian and was also responsible for the deposition of a bad emperor. The Roman Emperor also allowed them to take something lie 20% of the spoils from whatever battle they won, or city they conquered, the rate may have been higher to 40% by my memory on this specific detail is a bit hazy.

@@dieterhans1860 the varangian guard did have women in it, the Byzantines didnt care if they were male or female as long as they could fight and norse culture permitted their women to fight, it wasn't common for byzantine women to fight but they made acceptations for the varangian guard because it wasn't worth offending your elite guard to uphold your own tradition.

It doesn't take long to make a male version, either Ubisoft purposly wants to make each character gender locked on purpose, or they don't care enough. That being said, it's an odd-choice for female only since the Varagian's served the Roman Empire, though the unit was merit based and did not consist of Romans, but mostly of Rus and people from Scandia.

Hey Yolo, I just want to say I’ve been a fan of your For Honor since I found you all those years ago. You make For Honor content easy to understand for people like me who have been on and off the game a bunch and when ever I see a new hero get announced, you are the first and only person I think to watch and understand what the hell they can do. I only just got back into For Honor yesterday after years of not touching (no particular reason as to why, I just got bored years ago and only recently got the itch to play again) and had no clue about the new hero till booting up the game (my three thought from she them was “Oh hell, a Varangian” “are they a Viking, a knight, or an outlander because of the who being bodyguards in the Holy Roman Empire thing” and “it’s Marco time” that’s all I have to say, keep being awesome.

She is really cool and fun to play, even if I suck at her. Her full block mechanic is interesting and requires you to think about timing and opportunities. Her attacks feel strong and she has decent mix-up capability for a heavy. And yes, finally out of the hybrid curse. I've seen people complain about her kit, saying it is a boring version of PB. But I don't see the comparison outside of full-block shield. Gameplay wise, her full-block is closer to Aramusha if anything (Seriously her bash counter after full block is ara's kick, her heavy after full-block is ara's heavy...). I would like maybe an hyper armor on her finisher heavies, just to helo her in duels, but overall, she is fairly balanced in my opinion. A major problem tho: she is LOUD

@@beatdeath9962 yeah. the tier 1 is kinda useless. i use the healing etc when u kill minions. second tier also useless. there i wish i got team damage plus or team a banner. tier 3 is good but maybe add the self heal. i am very Happy with all tier 4. than the perks you said. than unstopable heavy or maybe the Zone is unstopable. or openers not unstopable but the zone after first attack unstopable, like jorm. i am not a native speaker so forgive me this sh*t english

Wait, is she actually a Viking instead of a knight or outlander? The Varagian Guard was in service of the Roman Empire, you weren't a varagian anymore after you left. People from all over Scandia and Russia would come to the Roman Empire to fight in there army as a Varagian specifically for glory, wealth, and fame, but you were never a Varagian after you left. It was also never exclusive to JUST vikings and was started with the Kievan-Rus after making a treaty with Rome. Should also mention that the Varagian Guard weren't female, but as far as I am aware being male was not a requirement, being a good warrior was. Also, to anyone who complains she's stuck to female only, I agree. It personally takes me 3 days to make a character with 3 outfits, I imagine for Ubisoft they'd be ble to make the entire character, armor, weapons, and make a male version within that same amount of time. That being said, it doesn't matter, I'm just happy we have more Romans in For Honor, I might pick the ame back up again. Just found out that her callouts are in Greek, instead of Latin. The Roman military still gave all of their orders out in Latin, and did not use Greek. (No, the empire never changed it's official language to Greek, Heraclius just started writing everything in Greek because 70% of the empire understood and spoke Greek, Greek was always the largest language in Rome ever since it left Italy.)

To be fair, they belonged to the Roman Empire, and even they couldn't be a solution to some of the skill issues some Roman Emperor's had. It was so bad at one point that the guard deposed an emperor and installed a new one (A Roman, not a varagian) and were even thanked for it.

In my opinion black prior is far superior on the defensive and assist front, because umbral shelter and his first feat are a guaranteed help to the team. Also thanks to being a heavy character with actual HEAVY feats like vengeful barrier and his healing ward and his bulwark flip he can manage himself in any situation. She may have a better offense but it's not worth it in my opinion, ESPECIALLY because she's a heavy character... Without heavy feats!!!
