Man Australia and South Africa from 1998 to 2012 had one of the best rivalries of all time. You could pick any game played between them and have 2-3 heart stopping moments in each one, at a minimum. The caliber of players for both sides is crazy, and it’s like the two teams were playing against a mirror image of themselves. Both had an incredible top 4 Batsmen Both had world leading wicket keepers who could bad amazingly Both had the equal number 1 fielders in the world (Ponting and De Villiers Both had such a formidable bowling attack. It’s no wonder they put on so many great matches. Miss these days.

A very similar odi was played by India and Sri Lanka a few years after it. India scored 414 and Sri lanka 411 in return. That match had crazy similarities with this one, Gibbs and dishan innings, and more acutely Sangakara(captain) 90 of 45 similar to Smith(captain) 90. They required 38 of 37 or something like that and everyone thought they will do it. But somehow Dhoni and Zaheer pulled it back and won it.

His best innings ever... the tension, excitement, pressure and fighting spirit was felt by all in the stadium. At the half time break they brought out the Oscar award and winning cast for the first South African movie(Tsotsi) to win an Oscar, that gave us some hope and Inspiration. At the last Over they played the song country roads take me home. Everything was a dream to chase the World record under pressure of the best team at the time. We South Africans never give up. This game inspired a nation. The atmosphere was electric and that game is always remembered as the greatest one day match ever played. Privileged to have seen it in person. By his own admission, the loss of Boeta Dippenaar's wicket early gave us a chance. I was disappointed in Kallis and Kemp that day because they nearly killed all of our momentum but the game turned back in our favour when vd Watt and Telemachus came out to the crease. Gibbs got the Man of the Match when Ponting refused to be a dual recipient; kudos for Ponting for making the stand!! Also full credit to Nathan Bracken for getting a fiver on the that wicket, when every other bowler was completely annihilated. He did drop Gibbs on 101 though, which cost them the game, but still, great bowling!
