How to make a million pounds: Start with 50 million pounds, then buy a farm. Farming is hard. The work is hard. The money is hard to come by.
@jwrosenbury
@jwrosenbury 2 жыл бұрын
@@wilkas159 The tractor might not be too big. A thousand acres is a largish farm. Depending on how much of it is plowable, he might need something that big. He will also need smaller tractors and 4x4s and stuff. But if he's mostly mono-cropping, he needs a big tractor. The show makes Clarkson out to be a clown, but he seems to have a handle on things. He'll still lose money. Farming is both physically and mentally hard. One almost has to be born into it. But he can afford to hire good people and lose money.

Was expecting a farm version of GT but, while the show is definitely that, there's a more genuine quality to it. You believe the people around Jeremy are sincere in trying to make this work despite Jeremy's regular shtick of derailing whatever the task at hand is.

They've found a good balance with reality and entertainment. Reality is the struggles like with the sowing and the sheep, entertainment is the stupid ideas he has and the sheep. I wonder if Jeremy actually has made money from the show so far. The farming equipment, permissions, renting diggers every episode or other heavy machinery, building a shop, buying sheep etc etc I'm sure it has cost him a fortune. For sure with farming alone he'd never break even with what he's spent. Unless that's counted as expenses for the show of course.

You're right. I detest farms and hope we soon move to a world where cultured meat and similar technologies remove the need for farms to exist, with their extraordinary levels of pollution and use of land that could be returned to nature. However, much though the agricultural industry itself has a lot of problems, there's no doubting the passion a lot of people working in agriculture have, and I think the show did a great job of showing that. And of course Clarkson's antics can make anything fun to watch. Genuinely enjoyed watching it.

@Mantvydas Wow, that's the first time I hear I'm a vegan. I should probably throw away the leftovers of yesterday's shepherd's pie that's in my fridge then... I eat a lot of meat, but there's no denying that the way we're currently producing it is horribly outdated and creates the kind of emissions that force other industries to take drastic action to counterbalance agriculture, which can seemingly get away with everything because people think it looks idyllic... But let's be honest, 19th century cotton mills with small children scampering about is also an idyllic image, but it's better for all concerned that we've moved on from that. The same is true for agriculture; it's an industry that's on its last legs, and once it's dead we'll all be able to enjoy more nature while eating lovely cultured steak that didn't put out nearly as much methane, carbon dioxide and nitrogen compounds in its creation. It's just better all-around. I don't really get the instinct to see everybody who wants this world to get a bit better as a vegan tree-hugger.

Don’t forget the lorry drivers who work long hours who get the supplies to where it’s needed. My brother in law is a lorry driver, salaried at 50 hours per week, in reality he is doing 70+ hours per week 20+ hours unpaid. No surprise there is a shortage of drivers

@@paulrob86 the maximum drive time for UK lorry drivers is 45hours a week he is braking the law if he is driving over his times he needs to find a new job if the company is happy for him to go over plus its recorded on your tachograph so he is screwed If vosa pulls him over

I honestly think i enjoyed this more than some Grand Tour episodes, it feels so genuine. Of course you can't beat the chemistry of the trio but for standalone projects this is by far my favorite. And that's saying a lot because Our Man in Japan is fantastic! It's genuine, heartwarming, down to earth yet hilarious and witty. Please let there be a season 2!

Best show I’ve ever seen! It has an at home and wholesome feeling to it yet holds the same humor, because Jeremy is in it after all. I actually like it. James has become like a part time youtuber as well (If he isn’t shot down in a plane for trying to land in Clarkson’s farm field). I hope for a season two of this show. It truely is a Grand Tour of Clarkson’s at home life.

Yeah, it's horrible how the government portrays local farmers. They rather want them to go out of business and import all the food, so they can make space for industries that makes them more money. But eating local will always be the most environmental friendly.

I clapped you, Jeremy. Loved the show. I can't think I would ever normally watch a show about farming, but because it was you I did, and it is fantastic. Extremely interesting, funny and emotional (sad) at times, and seeing you genuinely going through those emotions was really moving. Gave everyone a little bit of insight into some of the challenges and rewards (or lack thereof, financially at least - 40p a day) of farming. Plus, we know you have a "phobia of manual labour", so seeing you put so much effort into it is brilliant. Glad you have decided to keep going. Wish you all the best. I hope I might get a chance to visit the shop some time. I wonder if there will be a second series, but I'm not sure what more you could put into it as there was so much in the first!

Clarkson has his detractors, and in some circumstances when he's doing stupid things in expensive cars, I'm one of them. But this show about his farm is a triumph. I learned more about the perils of farming and farm equipment than I ever knew before, and I live in the country (Ontario). He's sincere about the parlous state of farming in the UK today, the plight of farmers and the burdens under which they have to operate. It's easy to say, "well let them do something else", but the vast (shrinking) majority are born to it, and know nothing else. Clarkson understands very well that through large incomes from other sources he's well insulated from the day-to-day financial woes of farming, and can bear the losses, but despite his know-it-all attitude he quickly realises he needed professional help and got it from an entertaining group of people. I very much look forward to season two.
