ABOUT LISA:
Lisa is arguably the happiest music teacher on the planet. We can’t prove it, but we’d be willing to bet on it. With a background in classical and contemporary vocal training and a love for popular music, Lisa Witt focuses on helping her students uncover their own, unique sound and develop their voice with simple routines and tips for faster results. Her personal singing journey started filled with intimidation and fear about “singing out loud”. Lisa’s desire to find confidence led her to discover HOW her voice works (physically) and gained newfound confidence and passion to perform in her discoveries that she now shares in her lessons. Lisa is a singer-songwriter who values singing as a therapeutic release for communicating harder emotions.

Interesting- the teacher corrects the intonation by correcting the technique and not by saying it’s flat/ out of tune. What a wonderful lesson.

Yep, they certainly can sing. I've gone to singing lessons for years, and not once have I 1. Sounded that good 2. Learned that fast. Oh well, we try our best still, it's all we can do. Your voice is a real joy to listen to, definitely keep on singing!

You’re right, she’s chosen someone who has a natural voice anyway, but she’s got some good points. I think it really depends on your teacher as it’s a matter of finding what works for you. Have tried many different teachers?

This was really inspiring. I used to sing and play all the time, but moved to NYC over a decade ago and never felt comfortable being willing to make mistakes and practise uninhibited knowing all the apartments around you can hear. I promptly lost my voice due to lack of practise, but this is a nice reminder that it is something I could probably get back with a little effort and relearning proper technique again. Cheers for the video, great job, Jack

I'm stuck at home with COVID and I know it's not the BEST time to learn singing techniques, but--- singing actually makes me less anxious about my breathing? Because I'm focused on breathing deep enough to sing, not overanalyzing the breath itself.

I always like to think about singing as the most difficult instrument to learn how to use. Because part of the process of learning to sing, is not just learning how to sing, it's about unlearning the bad habits we picked up from our day to day speaking. I think it's also why learning to sing early on is much easier, its easier to unlearn a bad habit you've had for 3-4 years rather than 30-40 years. It's kind of like typing, if you're left to learn how to type without any instructions you're bound to be incredibly efficient at using two fingers and typing at half of the speed you're capable of.

What helps me hit the pitch I'm hearing?
@corystajduhar
@corystajduhar 7 ай бұрын
Ear training and vocal coordination are essential. Learn to match tones and intervals on a piano or instrument. You will need to be able to sing them relaxed and smoothly at first or even hum them. Higher notes you will sing in a head voice and lower notes in a chest voice. Then you will need to start putting words to the pitches and make adjustments. These adjustments involve what vowels you're choosing, the register (chest, mix, head), volume and how to transition between notes. Basically you will start by practicing the pitches without singing the words and you will begin to figure out how to sing them, meaning what technique to use: to sing it soft or loud, in head voice, mix or chest, how to pronounce the vowels to facilitate the pitch and tone, which consonants you might omit (wanna instead of want to) and other things. It's really about hearing the right pitches in your mind and developing your instrument (your voice) in order to control what you perceive in your mind. As you develop your ear and vocal technique, the pitch will improve. One may whistle on pitch, but then have major pitch problems while singing a song. That is because whistling doesn't involve words or vocal folds and the dynamics are different (volume changes). We don't really belt or use other coordinations while whistling that we do use while singing. It's like most other things: it's a journey, it's a process, it's about discovering and culturing/developing/growing our knowledge and voice. Sorry I couldn't give one sure-fire tip to instantly sing on pitch, but just embrace the journey. You will not only improve your pitch, you will improve your tone, dynamics, style, artistry and other things. Good luck!
