Breeders, yes. Unless a eater size, i say fair chase because it's not a snagged fish.

i would have let it go due to the size but it’s not a snagged fish 👍🏼

Anglers choice

This is why you use a long monofilament shocker, braid cuts on gill plates, but mono won't..as you said they love to alligator roll, roll right up in the line.. Sometimes when they go deep ya feel the rod smacking, that's them digging their face in the bottom to get rid of the plug. I have seen stripers one in particular inhale a 9in pikie from 3 ft away by flaring it's gills, the fish turned loading up the rod, swam about 6 or 8 ft turned and spit the plug out underwater , a 9 in pikie has 3 5/0 trebles, fish never got hooked!!! I watched it happen and remember as if was yesterday but this was probably 1984 in the Marin Headlands on a place called little beach.morgan wore glasses and was blind as a bat, he never saw any of it..I was 12 at the time

To me... snagged is intentionally foul-hooking like dipshits do for salmon with corkies and long leaders. Obviously the striper took a swipe at that lure so I wouldn't call it snagged at all.
