So the very first time I watched Justin was a few years back when we were able to go fish almost every Sunday. I typed in "how to tie fishing line to a hook" a few videos popped up and for some reason I clicked on him. I saved to video and that was that. Then a few months later a video of his showed up in my feed about his brain tumor. Well needless to say I watched it and I have been a fan ever since. I follow the lake life channel and followed along with his surgery, their move and little Emmy! He is my favorite and so his is little family!

Yeah I'm a spin cast guy 100%. There's nothing wrong with using a push button reel, but that is for beginners. Also the push button reel doesn't offer you as much quality and power to fight big ol bertha. Bait casters are amazing reels but they ain't for me, they are in my opinion great for casting very long distances and do offer you good power to fight a fish. I like spin cast reels because it offers you just as much as a bait caster I believe the spin reel has superior leverage which makes fighting fish so much easier.

you don't need the spool of fresh line to be facing you, rolling off the same way. that way is nice but not necessary. It only has to come off the spool counter clockwise. So, you can just set the fresh spool flat, diagonally so string can come off the bottom and hold tension and spool on. Faster, easier way to do it if you have literally nothing and I saw some tourny pro do it that way so I know its fine, just did it to my rod and she's been good.

@todddickinson32623 жыл бұрын
I am certainly not LFG, but I wanted to share a tip that changed everything for me as far as casting a bait caster. It’s pretty elementary, but I had still never tried it and it’s worked on every bait caster I’ve used since. I hope it helps! Tie on whatever lure you choose, and then reel your line up to where the lure is hanging about 8-10 inches below your rod tip. Turn your tension knob (located on the right side of your reel assuming your right handed/it’s the smaller round knob behind your star drag) to where it’s finger tight. Now hold your rod tip pointed out about shoulder height, and depress your thumb bar. Your lure should not drop at all if you’ve tightened the tension knob enough. Now, slowly begin to loosen the tension knob until your lure falls to the ground, and your line on the spool spins one extra time after the lure touches the ground. That’s it! Generally it’s pretty close to where you can throw it without backlashing by just doing these steps. Your distance will most likely not be as great as you want it to, but as you get more comfortable you can loosen your tension knob in tiny increments until you find yourself very rarely ever having a bird nest, and hopefully really enjoying your reel! Again, I am no expert, but this is how I got pretty good with a bait caster, and I hope it helps you as well.

All depends on the budget, under $200 I think the Shimano SLX is very nice, (kinda the Curado baby brother) or even the Daiwa Tatula SV. I got to work in a tackle shop for a few years and thought they fealt better than the Lews and Abu Garcias personally. STRONGLY recommend going and hold one in person if you can, as the fit is different for everyone. Hope that helps, I know the Googan's all use a wide range too. -IA

Some people might not like this answer, but the Abu Garcia Black Max is a great reel for a beginner just to see if they like baitcasting reels, plus they're pretty cheap. Same with the Daiwa CC80 if you want to spend a little more.

@iowa.angler3 жыл бұрын
It all comes down to how much you are wanting to spend. More expensive reels gives you a bit more casting distance, stronger drag, and just higher quality components. If you love the sport of fishing and will use the reel, I think the Shimano SLX is great for under $200, at like $180. Otherwise Lews and Abu Garcia sell good combos for under $100. Like $60 for a Black Max if I remember right... (My first combo) Buy some cheaper mono like 14-18 pound Trilene XL, because you WILL have a back lash, and if you have to respool it's much cheaper than high quality braid... ($5 vs $30) When first starting out, tie on a 1/2 oz lead weight and practice in an open field. Max out your brakes, and adjust the line tension knob (right below the drag) to allow your weight to fall slowly and hit the ground without backlash. From there, you can slowly open up your brakes and the tension as you get more practice. I generally never mess with the brakes once I like where it's at, but you should mess with the line tension for every bait that's tied on. When out on the water, throw your bigger baits first, like 3/8 oz minimum, and avoid casting into the wind. Try to enjoy it, don't be afraid of a backlash. The advantages of the baitcaster are crazy, especially for larger presentations. -IA

The way I taught my 16 year old daughter is I loosened drag and brakes. Leave just enough drag on so spool doesn't go side to side and move brakes to minimum. I then showed her that the first thing one needs to learn is thumb control. Push thumb button with rod up and let lure fall. Before it hits the ground stop it with your thumb, the catch is to let your thumb gently run against the line. Seriously, do this like 100 times. During this time you'll start to know that you'll use your thumb to help control the line on reel with really light drag. She was really mad over this part but it is the most important part. When you feel confident you got this part, move your brake to the half way point. Min = 0, max = 10, move it to 5. Or 0 - 50, move it to 25 etc.. Now, cast 20 feet out to the water and no more. Absolutetly using your thumb to control the reel. No further because after that, your on your own. Do this another 100 times. Then try to cast 30 feet, then 40 feet. The cool thing is you are now fishing. Don't make it harder then it has to be.

Would someone from the Googans explain exactly what "suspended Bass" are, and how to catch them.........I is teh confuzed o.O
@oldiron41357 ай бұрын
I'm not from googans but I'll take a go. Here's my take. Water level goes down, bait fish go deep or disappear from bass normal feeding grounds causing bass to go some what deeper and to save energy they don't feed much so they suspend. You can get them but a major pain. There is other reasons such as temps but this way is easier to understand. So if your in an more open (lacking cover like lillys) lake or pond, go to a not so deep pond that has cover (lillys). It can still be a pain to catch them but this is when punching becomes a very real thing that most won't bother with. The want top frogs which work, but I also go to weighted Texas rigging creatures and punch lillys and mats going for a reaction strike. Their in their feeding on bait fish. Ive seen this in smaller ponds on like 98 degree days. But you need a very strong bass rod to pull them through the weeds. Good luck.
