But it's not like it would be cost-effective anyway. Even if it worked, you'd probably have to replace more parts and more frequently than, say, sizable tungsten rods dropped from orbit to hit and destroy a target with kinetic force (which technically are allowed as orbital weaponry goes, though some groups plan to ban all space weaponry)
