HVAC companies hate this guy! Save thousands with this one weird trick!
How to do a DIY quick-and-dirty coil cleaning, to the horror of guys like Ted Cook of Anti DIY HVAC.
This GE Executive air conditioner from the 1970s is the grandaddy of modern Trane A/C systems, and the Climatuff compressor as well as the rest of the components here have been just insanely reliable. Original fan motor, capacitor, original charge of R-22.
It's been said that a fussy, temperamental machine that needs a lot of attention will get a lot of attention, but a reliable machine that needs very little attention will often receive none at all. Don't neglect the most expensive equipment in your home.

I need to do this to ours, it's in need. Now that I'm making my own schedule in life, I have the time and absolutely no excuse!

My York hails from '93. Had the condenser fan motor replaced last year. Yesterday the high was 103. It kept the inside of my house at 78 while I was at work. The liquid line was hot, and the suction line was not sweating which means it's about two pounds low again. I'm trying to keep mine going as long as possible. Eventually, I'll need to do or have a leak test done. The small leak is probably in the evaporator inside the air handler. I'm hesitant to have it replaced because I'm not sure how reliable the new condensers are, and the York still works. As side note, growing up I considered going into HVAC, then my grandfather said I wouldn't like it because I would be on top of hot buildings/attics, and he said I wouldn't like that. So, I scrapped that idea. I'm still fascinated by the whole principal of air conditioning and the process of moving heat from indoors to outdoors via refrigerant. The one downside of keeping these old units running is if you have a leak like I do the availability of R22 is going to continue to decline. It's already very expensive to have a professional HVAC company come in and recharge it. Unless you have a small-town guy like I do. Or get it converted, which cannot be done if a leak is present.

don't waste your money on a top-off which is a temporary fix, either have leak found and fixed or replace. leak repair probably not worth it at this age. topping off leaker is illegal in all developed countries except for us.

That’s nice and all…but I being the impatient Central-Western Canadian I am once used a pressure washer and instantly regretted it. Save the money! But…patience is key.

Owen, I watches a video you made of the Y test assembly with a water lift gauge. Now I can’t find it. I don’t see it on either of your channels

the only problem with those units is they're likely 6 to 7 seer - but i guess if you're in a real winter climate and only need cooling 2-6 weeks each year, you'll never recoup the cost of replacing working units.
